I bet they’ll move away soon. To a proper posh area.

Recording Boris and partner
(371 Posts)This is totally ridiculous as a news headline. Can't a couple have a row without the world knowing. I'm not a Boris fan but this is out of order imo.
They aren’t big posh houses . They are big houses which are now flats in south London. I suppose the “manners of a pig” refers to those who scream and shout at each other at 1 am?
So it's those kind of oiks who live there then ? In their big posh houses.Makes you laugh doesn't it ? Manners of a pig.
annepl your screen shot shows that both gabriella and eloethan are right, but that doesn’t mean that Gabriella was right to use the term as she did.
The point is that a medical definition is being used as a term of abuse. Is that ok? Surely not.
‘Spastic’ is also a medical term but using it to abuse someone is not considered acceptable in polite society.
Cretinism refers to a deficiency of thyroid hormone.
Diabetes refers to a deficiency of insulin.
How would the many people with diabetes feel if ‘diabetic’ suddenly became a term
of abuse?
Funny how those who support Mark Field for manhandling a protester, since she “could have been a terrorist” now are criticising a neighbour for calling the police over a row which “could have been domestic violence “. Or are you criticising him for contacting the press.? He didn’t get any money for it, btw , so those who said he did it for the money are wrong. He may have called the police for the right reasons, and may have contacted the press as he knew the public would be interested. They are interested as this debate shows. If you’re not interested in the story don’t read it, and move on.
I’m surprised so many people think shouting and throwing things is normal behaviour between couples. I think it shows him up for the lout he is. If any man in my life had behaved like that, even once, I’d have been out quicker than lightning. I don’t know anything about the woman, but no doubt she is as bad.
Cretin/cretinous is and always has been a word used to describe a person whose actions are ill-judged in other words, stupid.
I make no apology.
I have never had a row with my husband - and if the day ever did dawn when we began to shout at each other then the marriage would be over for me. I adore my husband, but I was brought up in a house where rowing and domestic violence was the norm and I really wouldn't tolerate it for a second. Fortunately we are both calm people who are used to discussing things and therefore are able to agree to disagree without getting overheated.
As for the occurrence in question; interviews with other neighbours demonstrate that they too were concerned by what they heard and one woman said that she was thinking of calling the police herself when they actually arrived. Because of my own family history I have to say that I too would have called the police, but would be unlikely to think of recording the contretemps. Nowadays though, young people do tend to record anything and everything, so it's not really a surprising thing to happen.
The Guardian doesn't have a reputation for chequebook journalism, so I would be surprised (and disappointed) if they paid for the story; much more likely that the man in question doesn't like BJ and saw this as an opportunity to expose some of his more unsavoury actions.
craftyone How could it be a set up? It's not possible to set up a huge, noisy argument is it, unless Boris and his girlfriend were part of the set up? I agree with you that it's his policies and past performance in office that should receive the most attention and, in my view, they stink too.
Gabriella Perhaps you weren't aware but "cretin" was the word used to describe someone with specific physical and learning disabilities caused, I think, by thyroid deficiency - and to use it as an insult is disrespectful of people with a disability and is, well, a bit low class.

the equipment happened to be a mobile phone. Most of the world who have smart phones can record conversations in just 2 clicks.
It's 2019 not 1919 y'know.
Having seen the cut of that couple, they're definitely not people I'd want to associate with. Avoid avoid.
They look like placard waving, pot smoking, Glastonbury going, grungy no-marks and I'd give them a wide berth.
Apparently the female showed Carrie the finger when she saw her in the street.
Typical low class cretins.
Anyone in the public eye must know that they're going to be scrutinised at every move they make and when you have walls as thin as paper, the opportunity is there for anyone who wants to make a quick buck.
The pair of them had obviously been drinking as I doubt that under normal circumstances they would have been carrying on as they did. They should stick to lemonade.
I think he should be judged, like any politician, on his record and what he says he wants to achieve.
After all, the quieter Corbyn has been married three times and had at least one affair.
It is difficult, though, to disregard their private lives when they appear to be unstable.
I wouldn't choose either of them, but that is academic.
If our possible future PM (2 marriages, several affairs, at least 1 illegitimate child and a current partner just older than his eldest daughter) has a row loud enough to cause a disturbance, what business is it of ours? It's not as if, as a country, we will be relying on his judgment, his integrity or his moral compass is it?
I'm sure Carrie was simply 'being difficult', just as much as the Greenpeace protestor 'asked for it'.
It was a very obvious setup, making sure that the equipment was there to record through walls, taking car numbers, calling the leftie guardian. Conservative members will vote for Boris esp now that he has shown himself to be human, goodness me every couple has a row from time to time, luckily most don`t have neighbours who invade privacy. It is his policies that count, not his personal life.
If you thought someone was being abused then yes, you might well call the police - but not the press.
If you suspected a child was in danger then the appropriate services.
If you were being constantly disturbed by loud rows, loud music, barking dogs, coming from a neighbour's property sufficient to cause you constant annoyance, then you might well resort to recording it as proof when complaining to the Council if you wanted to go down that route.
Recording the row, calling the police and passing the recording to the Guardian?
After reading his side of the story, this man sounds like a sanctimonious prat, unfortunately.
Good on the neighbour for calling the police. Anything could have happened. Too many people turn a blind eye to domestic violence. She was heard to shout for him to ‘get out’ several times.
As it happened this was just a rather vocal row, but better safe than sorry. Also, when suspected child abuse is overheard, better safe than sorry.
The guy is a d**k.
Did it for the money.
I hope he gets pilloried.
The neighbour who called the police has gone public:
www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jun/22/neighbour-who-called-police-over-boris-johnson-row-goes-public
No doubt those of you who are always prepared to think the worst about people (judging by your own standards, perhaps?) will pooh pooh his account. I think the neighbours were absolutely right to call the police; there was always the possibility of it escalating to violence, whoever the participants might be.
I'm not too sure that they should have contacted the press but if you want to live in the public eye I think you should be prepared for any of your actions to be potentially publicised and to conduct yourself circumspectly at all times.
Our last house was a semi with solid walls built in the 1930s. I was civil to Miss next door but we only met over the garden fence. When she knew we were selling, she asked me in for a sherry. I was honoured and left the family at home.
So embarrassing, I could hear every word through the walls and it was only the kids and their dad.
Ugh I dread to think what this single school teacher had to put up with over the years. At least she didn't call 999.
Actually, Gonegirl, I was so shocked and he was so mortified that we were both speechless - most unusual!
I don’t like Boris, his private life is a mess, he lies constantly and I certainly don’t want him in no. 10. I disagree that it’s a private dispute, if he is to be the PM and he rows loud enough to be recorded, sorry you are a public figure, “dems the breaks” as my mother would say. Ghastly man, I hope his ex wife is having a good laugh.
Apparently his girlfriend shouted "get off me" and "get out of my flat". There were reports of loud shouting, including BJ shouting "get off my fucking laptop", and screams. I believe it was reported that the laptop was damaged.
When we heard something like this happening next door many years ago, we called the police because we feared for our neighbour's and her young daughter's safety. My work colleague said she would never contact the police in this sort of situation because it's nobody's business when couples row and "sometimes women provoke men". This surprised me, especially coming from a woman.
I think, in these particular circumstances, it was reasonable to record what was happening. Powerful people have ways of making this sort of incident disappear. It was interesting that, at first, the police denied having attended a domestic incident at that address.
I do have some misgivings about the recording being handed to the Guardian. We've had a few loud rows over the years - though no screaming or indications of violence occurring. I'm glad our neighbours didn't record them!
On the other hand, as BJ is a candidate for PM perhaps people ought to be aware of yet another example of his lack of judgment and self control.
