White cars

We're thinking of changing our car and seen one we like very much. But it's white. We've never had a white car before as it doesn't seem a sensible colour for messy people like us who are a bit lax when it comes to car cleaning.

But I knew someone who said his white car stayed cleaner than any other colour he'd had, but can this be true? Did he lie?

Does anyone have a white car and if so are they a pain to keep clean or no worse than any other colour?

It's white with a black roof. I think we've rather decided to have it as it ticks all the boxes plus a few we didn't know existed.

Test drive on Tuesday. If it drives like a slug there'll be two very disappointed people!

Cars are so boring - about 90% seem to be white, silver, black or grey.

Ellanvannin I saw that story about the Skoda, I bet they had a great time!!!

We have had 3 white cars over the years, used to get them washed weekly. Now have a big black tank of a car and my dark grey metallic convertible, they get just as dirty but I think we are getting slightly lazy on the clean car front !!!!!

D has always gone for big cars and had a maroon/wine coloured BMW 7 series with cream leather interior, fabulous.
Present car is a big" beast", but bags of room in it and so comfortable. It's a shiny black Chrysler----like a tank !

How about the little old Skoda that a Liverpool fan bought for £40 which took 4 of them to Madrid and back last week ? He's hanging on to it as a runaround after having been offered big money for it as only 6 exist in the country. It would have cost the 4 of them £800 each air fare. A marvellous story as he said he might even risk Istanbul next year. Good luck to him.

5 years back I bought a 2 yr old white 5 series BMW which I cleaned every week...yes...every week, or more often in winter. I dislike dirty cars and when I was too busy to clean it myself a very nice Polish guy used to give it a complete valet by hand.
I sold it for £2.5k more than I paid for it...to the Polish guy, Ksawery.
My present car is a silver E class MB, w leather and walnut interior. I do like white cars and would like an Audi. grin

We have had 2 white cars and our sons both went out and got white cars straight away as they loved the look of them and none of us ever commented on how dirty they looked as they were no different to the rest.
. Black cars are the worst.

In my opinion black and white cars are the worst for showing the dirt, the best are silver and champagne. My silver one is great, but the blackened glass on the rear windows always looks dusty.

I have a White Kia Rio - always looks nice and smart and no dirtier than any other care I have had. It gets a wash about once a month.

Our last car was a crystal white car and it showed the dirt, but we have had blue cars, red cars, silver cars - they all show the dirt! Look beyond the colour to all the other good things you like about it, NfK.

All I remember about my white car was that I was constantly cut up when driving on motorways. DH didn't believe me, then he borrowed it to make a journey including motorway driving and came back agreeing with me.

I have a bright blue car, it hasn't had a wash for 2 years, although I keep thinking about it. It is not obvious - and I live in the country.

J52 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:53:13

Years ago I had a white car, I don’t seem to remember it showing the dirt more than any other colour.
I’ve just ordered my new car, the hardest part was choosing the colour. I decided on silver, again!

Perhaps if we all had white cars it would have an effect on global warming. And used them less of course.

Auntieflo Fri 07-Jun-19 07:36:06

We are seriously thinking of changing our car.
What colour? -well, white of course .
Go for it NFK and enjoy.

kittylester Fri 07-Jun-19 07:26:24

Go for it!!

Nana3 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:23:39

My car is white, I wash it rarely and it looks fine. Get the white car.

Beechnut Fri 07-Jun-19 07:19:25

Another dirty black car here. Shows up everything. Currently sporting cobwebs and bird poo ☹️

Esspee Fri 07-Jun-19 07:18:58

We always chose white in hot countries as it does reflect the heat. In this country silver is the most practical colour.

cornergran Fri 07-Jun-19 07:16:00

We had a white car years ago, loved the car and the colour, no issue with it looking any more dirty than it’s darker predecessor. Would definitely have one again.

gillybob Fri 07-Jun-19 07:10:11

I have a white car . It’s that crisp crystal white too, not that wish washy White you sometimes see. It’s 6.5 years old and looks as good as new (unless you look inside after a week of school runs that is) .

I am not a washing fanatic but I do love seeing it gleaming .
I used to have a black car and it always looked filthy as you could see every speck of dust on it.

giulia Fri 07-Jun-19 07:07:57

One good thing about white cars is that they are supposed to be more visible to other cars in fog.

JackyB Fri 07-Jun-19 07:04:11

We once had a white car because we thought that white would reflect the light more and it wouldn't get so hot inside. (This was before air conditioning) The theory didn't really prove itself right and we have always had dark colours since. But looking clean or dirty was never a criterion.

crazyH Thu 06-Jun-19 22:40:20

Mine is blue. The salesman told me he would give me a further £500 discount if I went for the blue one. I did. And, you can hardly see the dust. It always looks clean. I believe Blue cars are difficult to sell.

Tangerine Thu 06-Jun-19 22:34:22

I don't mind cleaning my car regularly so I think white is fine. If you're not keen on cleaning cars, perhaps think again. The main thing is "does it drive well?"

Nannylovesshopping Thu 06-Jun-19 22:30:47

I have a black car and it always looks scruffy, although I
clean it regularly, my daughter has a white one, rarely cleans
it and always looks better than mine!

SueDonim Thu 06-Jun-19 22:25:12

Ha, yes, Phoenix! My Dh has a black car. It recently turned a greeny-yellow when it got covered in a thick coat of pollen. Even heavy rain didn't manage to shift it. confused
