It may have been mentioned already, but Meghan doesn't have to meet Trump or indeed any other dignitary as she is on maternity leave. Harry could be on paternity leave in that case. It might be a very convenient opt out for both of them.

Exactly what sort of 'diplomatic incident' is envisaged if Harry doesn't attend ?

Or will the royals no longer be able to visit the USA unless they can prove they have valid passports and work permits? I wish him luck on that one

Even if massive protocols are breached, the worst that can happen is that that diplomats of each country will talk to one another, 'in the strictest terms' over a double whisky.

Anniebach. Anne is my favourite royal, well, maybe = with the Queen! Actually I like Prince Phillip too. He's really funny and not like the press make him out to be. Well...
Anyway, Anne is one of the best ever,- she does her own work, writes her own speeches, goes out to her charities and sees what they are doing. She's a really hard working down to earth British girl! Although she does not seek it, I think she deserves so much more recognition than she gets.

I thought the Government just organised it all and she was landed with the "entertaining" or hand-shaking. Once the Government have decided something the Queen is not supposed to show any political views. For all we know she might secretly wish she could vote for Jeremy Corbin!!!

OPgrndtr. That is very generous of you! But please do not feel we judge you all as crazy Trump lovers! We know the election was a terrible shock to a great many Americans. We know too that the USA is like several Countries bound together and that some parts are so incredibly different from others it is impossible to believe they are in the same country! In fact even the little UK is very diverse!

But it makes me so very sad that you feel you need to apologise to us. We are your friends - we are deeply in sympathy with the people who are distressed by the election of Mr Trump. We are holding on with you hoping it will not be too long before he goes!

Also, we really can't boast about the line-up we have at the top right now! If Boris the Oaf is elected, for me it's the end of Britain. I have found myself not proud to be British for the first time in 69 years. It really hurts. It is time to make a list of priorities and start working on sorting them out.

Please allow an American Gran to apologize for POTUS and his large publicity seeking family. Just as you have said the UK should not have to pay for all of their Security. Trump just responded to an interviewer who asked did you know she called you a mysoginist and divisive. Trump said I didn’t know she was that nasty. He didn’t call her nasty. So once again the media twist the facts
I don’t like the guy.. but we should be told all the facts, not have information twisted to make headlines

No doubt the queen has had to be polite to many nasty individuals so it shouldn’t be a trial for Harry to show the office of president of the United States the respect it deserves

I'm sure I remember Michelle Obama saying that if someone insults or hurts you, then "Go higher." In other words, don't go down to their level and argue back in their terms, but be gracious and hold your head up so that they cannot pull you down.

I imagine this to be a modern way of describing an aspect of duty. I agree that The Queen has to be polite to all who are presented to her no matter what they might be like. She represents our Country. In this situation, Prince Harry also represents The United Kingdom and I'd like to see him "go higher" and show that we are gracious and do not stoop to shameful personal public insults and neither do they affect us when others try to hurt us with them. We know ourselves well enough. That is all that matters.

Trump responded, "I didn't know that she was nasty. I hope she is OK. ..." He seemed to bury the hatchet saying, "I am sure she will go excellently (as a royal). She will be very good.

The Speaker, Cable and Corbyn, will all, I'm sure, take part in honouring our wartime dead. None of them want to honour Donald Trump who should never have been invited to a state visit so early in his presidency and at a time when our country is in chaos, not helped by him or by his Russian sponsor. I'm sure many or us feel sorry for Her Majesty, who apparently has no choice but to play hostess to some pretty dreadful people.

I’m sure Harry will take great pleasure in being the bigger person. He’ll be polite but won’t engage in any personal conversation. It would be too easy to take that man (for want of a better word) down to China town (as they say) but he’s not worth the effort. Harry will do his diplomatic duty will do the Queen.
