Has anyone called Anne "a minor royal" to her face?

Harry’s dilemma
(146 Posts)Now, I can take or leave the royal family, but I can see that it might be difficult for Harry to have tea with Donald Trump next week, given that he called Meghan “nasty” in an interview with the Sun. Does he go and accord Trump some degree of politeness commensurate with his position as President of The US, can he shake his hand and engage in small talk like he would with any other visiting head of state, or does he treat him to a frosty silence, or turn his back on him, or not go at all and risk a diplomatic incident?
Callistemon. Thank you, well said.
I'd like to quote some brilliant comments please:
sandelf "we don't stoop to reacting."
and
Anniebach "The media is stirring things up"
and please read:-
NannyC2 on Sun 02-Jun-19 16:00:34. who explains that
Megan said very harsh things on the Larry Wilmore show in 2016 about Mr Trump to which he said he did not know she was so nasty - presumably referring to the comments i.e. I did not know she was so nasty in saying those things. Then he said "I hope she will be OK.."
But come what may, I believe Prince Harry will be dignified and receive his honoured guest, who represents the USA, with a warm British welcome.
grumppa. I held her pony once. I was trying to get her title right and she said "For heaven's sake, call me Anne!"
Completely agree Nanaval4G. She’s completely lacking in dignity, just a gold digger with a big mouth. Harry has a duty to perform as a Toual. No doubt the queen has had to be polite to many nasty individuals so it shouldn’t be a trial for Harry to show the office of president of the United States the respect it deserves
Toual? Should read Royal
It’s Harrys duty...man up.. don’t cower to Megan’s virtue signalling
Trump just responded to an interviewer who asked did you know she called you a mysoginist and divisive. Trump said I didn’t know she was that nasty. He didn’t call her nasty. So once again the media twist the facts
I don’t like the guy.. but we should be told all the facts, not have information twisted to make headlines
Anne is a daughter of the Monach, Harry a Grandson, Anne has always carried out many, many public duties, Harry no
I wish someone would tell Trump and America, Megan is not a princess she is a duchess, if Harry hadn’t been given the title Sussex when he married she would be Princess Henry, doubt she would have liked that ?
While most of us do not like President Trump regarding his policies, outrageous statements and behaviour, the Queen and members of the Royal family have entertained several nasty dictators or individuals in the UK who have disregarded human rights and democracy. These are just four:
President Bashar al-Assad
Robert Mugabe
The Sultan of Brunei
Mobutu Sese Seko (Democratic Rep of the Congo).
At least President Trump was voted in by the citizens of the USA.
Hopefully Harry has a prior engagement, Prince Philip will attend the tea party and we can all be flies on the wall...
The Queen managed to dine with Martin McGuinness and shake his hand.
Please allow an American Gran to apologize for POTUS and his large publicity seeking family. Just as you have said the UK should not have to pay for all of their Security. As Americans we dislike paying for all of their travel on a regular basis. Please forgive our nation for electing such an ill-mannered, self centered individual.
Best wishes to the Royal Family.
True Grandmama and the IRA had murdered her husband’s much loved uncle who was loved by the royals
OPgrndtr. That is very generous of you! But please do not feel we judge you all as crazy Trump lovers! We know the election was a terrible shock to a great many Americans. We know too that the USA is like several Countries bound together and that some parts are so incredibly different from others it is impossible to believe they are in the same country! In fact even the little UK is very diverse!
But it makes me so very sad that you feel you need to apologise to us. We are your friends - we are deeply in sympathy with the people who are distressed by the election of Mr Trump. We are holding on with you hoping it will not be too long before he goes!
Also, we really can't boast about the line-up we have at the top right now! If Boris the Oaf is elected, for me it's the end of Britain. I have found myself not proud to be British for the first time in 69 years. It really hurts. It is time to make a list of priorities and start working on sorting them out.
I am sooooo fed-up with politics at the moment!
Marilla. That is a good point. Extremely good point.
I am not sure, but I think the Queen is almost obliged to entertain the Heads of State of certain places when they visit isn't she?
I thought the Government just organised it all and she was landed with the "entertaining" or hand-shaking. Once the Government have decided something the Queen is not supposed to show any political views. For all we know she might secretly wish she could vote for Jeremy Corbin!!!
Anniebach. Anne is my favourite royal, well, maybe = with the Queen! Actually I like Prince Phillip too. He's really funny and not like the press make him out to be. Well...
Anyway, Anne is one of the best ever,- she does her own work, writes her own speeches, goes out to her charities and sees what they are doing. She's a really hard working down to earth British girl! Although she does not seek it, I think she deserves so much more recognition than she gets.
Exactly what sort of 'diplomatic incident' is envisaged if Harry doesn't attend ?
A wall across Brixton?
Trump and Prince Phillip having a High Noon moment
with Smith & Wesson .38 revolvers in the Mall?
Or will the royals no longer be able to visit the USA unless they can prove they have valid passports and work permits? I wish him luck on that one
Even if massive protocols are breached, the worst that can happen is that that diplomats of each country will talk to one another, 'in the strictest terms' over a double whisky.
It may have been mentioned already, but Meghan doesn't have to meet Trump or indeed any other dignitary as she is on maternity leave. Harry could be on paternity leave in that case. It might be a very convenient opt out for both of them.
Hi Merlotgran - was thinking about you last week and wondering how things are with you. Xx
Anniebach I think you are mistaken. Donald Trump did not say that what the Duchess of Sussex said was nasty. What he said was, "I didn't know she was nasty". The recording is all over the internet, so it's easy to check.
Just a reminder that Donald Trump boasted that he could have "nailed" [unpleasing frat boy term] the late Princess of Wales. I doubt if Prince Harry or the Prince of Wales have forgotten or forgiven and I suspect that neither is looking forward to meeting the man.
I am tired of reading that Donald Trump was elected by the citizens of the USA or that he won a democratic election. Even if you completely discount Russian interference in the 2016 election – which has been confirmed by every intelligence agency in America – he was not democratically elected President by any definition used by any other democratic country in the world.
Hillary Clinton won 2.87 million more [citizens'] votes than Donald Trump, but because of the archaic and systemically inequitable Electoral College votes she lost. (He won 304 Electoral College votes; she won 227.) Votes in some states carry more weight than they do in others because of the unfair distribution of the number of votes each Electoral College can make – it is a truly bizarre system that might have been valid in the past but has no place in the 21st century.
I think he is the fourth or fifth president appointed after losing the popular vote. (George W. Bush was another recent instance.) Hillary Clinton has the dubious honour of having received the highest number of popular votes but still not winning the Presidency.
The USA, in general, does not accept family rulers in the way the Royals do. They like the pomp but despise the institution. I do not think Trump gives a flying Kite what Harry thinks or does... Prince Harry will mean nothing to President Trump and good for Trump. He is a great president.
I don't like President Trump or Meghan Markle but this puerile nonsense, as someone else called it is not worth a post.
