A great idea

Ramadan moves backwards 10-11 days each year.

Florencelady I think your Muslim work colleagues were just being generous and friendly. My neighbors are like this and we get the most delicious plates of food brought to our door.

They are kind and gentle folk nothing like the Muslims which are portrayed in the media.

I went to the Open Day at our local mosque early last year and was welcomed, even before the Christchurch outrage.

I'm hoping to go to the Eid feast this year as well.

When l was at university l worked during the summer with lots of muslims. Our first week was always the end of Ramadam and they always brought lots of food into work for us all to celebrate. Delicious food. That was in the early 80s and l still recall how generous they were.

We had a leaflet through the door last year to say a mosque in our area were holding and open day - all welcome. We would have gone but forgot about it.

Beckett I did say I thought it was a lovely idea.

When we went to Mauritius we were told it was an island with several religions where each shared its festivals with all the others. Apparently there is a lot of inter-marriage as well except the Muslims who don't feel they can go that far.

Not sure why this country can't be that inclusive, is it because we don't assimilate? I think many cities have different cultures living in their own area of the city.

What a super idea. I hope it continues to catch on amongst all groups. If it did, we would surely have a greater understanding of and respect for all the different beliefs and customs (which, when you pare away at them, are not so very different after all). Bring it on, I say! ?

I hope we can put race , religion, colour and creed aside and live in harmony. Take a leaf out of the book of these great people.

Even if some people were only there for the free food it still brought people from all over the city together in an enjoyable friendly atmosphere - isn't that in itself a good thing?

A lovely idea which I'm sure was enjoyed by the majority.

I'm a bit of a cynic though and wonder if some were only there for free food and not to join in the spirit of it all. I suppose there is an element of that at any event.

Yes, I saw this on the news and thought it was a brilliant idea. I'm going to look out for it happening in my area next year and go along if possible
