Unusual GrannyGravy , I can’t imagine keeping the births of my daughters a secret from my extended family, I loved sharing our joy with those who loved us.

I think they wanted to have a few days to themselves before the media circus started, but then they realised the newspapers, and some of the public, were having none of it, and they had to change their plans.

It was all done very nicely though. Nothing to complain about.

AB my mother was living abroad when one of my C was born, we told nobody when I went into hospital except for a dear friend who looked after their sibling. We flew out to her when baby was 10 days old. Put announcement in local rag and told friends and extended family when we flew back into the UK.

Did any of us announce to family and friends we would not be making an announcement, we will not say where the baby will be born, and then have details of the birth printed in the local newspaper

Gender neutral nursery???

All my C & 4 of our GC had gender neutral nurseries as we did not know whether they were boys or girls. ( neither blue or pink, and with a selection of "neutral toys & books)

We have always taken photos of babies feet and hands.

As for the "staged photos", myself, D and DiLs could barely stand for days post partum, they presented the baby to the world, so it wasn't on the steps of a hospital- so what.

The majority on here are Grandparents and therefore have been new parents, take a moment to remember how you felt and how you would feel reading this thread if it was about your family!!

Sad to say, I am finding the Duchess of Sussex and her husband increasingly tiresome.

The secrecy over the place of birth, a legal requirement for everyone else; the mess-up over the announcement of the birth, apparently to fit in with a Prime Time chat show; the very staged photographs in Windsor Castle; 'Harrison'; the celebration of International Mothers' Day, (who knew) plus the accompanying awful post; all accompanied by the constant refrain: 'we want an ordinary upbringing for our little global citizen in his its gender-neutral nursery'.
Very contrived.
Very American.
Very poor taste.

A lot of it is probably dreamed up by the media. Who knows? Give em the benefit of the doubt I say. She's done such a good job since she married in. And while she was preggers. Couldn't have done that myself. That is a well travelled baby.

I'm irritated by the way she seems to behave like a child - making a show about hiding but keen to be found. If this couple want to be as low key and private as is said, let them be, and good-oh, but posing in high heels in these circs and showing the world photographs of their baby's feet doesn't seem like it to me.
