Does anyone agree with me that Meghan looks a lot better with her bit of pregnancy weight? Her face has filled out and she looks really healthy and well. Of course she looks so happy with her new baby, but there is a glow about her that we haven't seen before. I hope she doesn't try and slim back into her jeans within a couple of weeks, as most celebrities seem to do.

Difficult, some posters can’t see nasty crap against other posters

Apricity Wed 15-May-19 11:36:56

OMG! On the whole I love the GN conversations. The heartfelt support offered to those suffering bereavement, estrangement or facing other deeply personal and painful situations and life dilemmas and the shared life experiences are truly wonderful and helpful.

But, and it's a very big but, I cannot believe the absolute crap and nasty garbage about Meghan. She has chosen to be part of the Royal family because she had the good (or possibly very bad) luck to fall in love with a member of that family. Everything we know about her is that she is a strong, resilient and courageous young woman who has made a great life and career despite very difficult personal circumstances. Instead of celebrating those achievements and the birth of her first child many of the GN comments are nasty, petty and downright horrible. Why?

Surely GNS can see past personal feelings for or against the Royal family, that Meghan is American or any other biases and just share the universal joy in the birth of a very wanted and very loved baby. And this rant is coming from a Republican Aussie.

Love it , Sibhib, that the best comment ever about the subject ?

Grandma70s Wed 15-May-19 10:37:34

Yes, sibhib!

I would add that I can’t see Meghan as a national emblem because she is American. I meant the Queen, Charles, William and Kate etc.

sibhib Wed 15-May-19 10:32:16

The reason Meghan hangs onto Harry for dear life is because she cannot walk in those blinking shoes!

Grandma70s Wed 15-May-19 10:31:13

Jane10 has said exactly what I think. Not ‘our betters’, but a kind of national emblem.

Anniebach Wed 15-May-19 10:20:20

I agree with you Sarah sadly I don’t think anyone could , but she kept searching . My anger is reserved for her father. wicked man .

Sara65 Wed 15-May-19 10:14:52

Annie, I meant on a personal level, Charles was never going to be her Prince

Sara65 Wed 15-May-19 10:12:58

I have huge respect for the Queen, and also Prince Charles, but I think things are changing, and William and Kate will find their roles quite different

Anniebach Wed 15-May-19 10:12:27

I too like Camilla, another who does her public duties , doesn’t give interviews and does chase the camera,

Gonegirl Wed 15-May-19 10:11:26

And I think they probably are most people's "betters".

Gonegirl Wed 15-May-19 10:10:39

They get bitched about, but I doubt if they bitch about others.

Gonegirl Wed 15-May-19 10:09:52

I like Camilla.

I think they all come across as "good" people. ie Decent.

Anniebach Wed 15-May-19 10:09:47

Sorry Sarah I can’t agree on ‘she didn’t know what she was
getting into, the queen is godmother to her brother, her father was equerry to the queen, her grandmother was lady in waiting to the queen mother, her sister dated Charles, she was brought up on the Sandringhan estate, the quuens private resident, she holidayed at Balmoral .

Jane10 Wed 15-May-19 10:06:10

I certainly dont accept them as anyone's 'betters'. They're a sort of national asset like museums- a kind of human zoo/docudrama. Symbolic yet living history. People like to see them and hear about them. They're a draw for tourists and a sort of national emblem.

Sara65 Wed 15-May-19 10:01:56

I agree with most of what you say regarding Diana paddyann, but I think she was badly used, a child bride, who had no idea what she was getting into.
I don’t want to put the cat among the pigeons here, but I love Camilla

paddyann Wed 15-May-19 09:50:22

I am anti royalty as I'm sure you are all aware and like Annie I have nothing but contempt for "the sainted Diana" she was a young woman who believed her own publicity and manipulated press and public .Just because she's dead wont change my mind about her.Would I change my mind about Fred West because he'd dead? Or Hitler ...he had a difficult childhood and didn't get on with his mother ...lol.Death doesn't confer sainthood on anyone .I dont however have a personality issue with any royal ..I 'm sure they are all very nice people ....even if I think they are as Gilly says hypocrites and scroungers.I want to see the whole concept of monarchy gone when Lizzie dies ,its out of step.divisive and frankly just ridiculous that we accept these people as being our "betters" and treating them as deities almost .Maybe once our generation dies the next one will see sense....

Lily65 Wed 15-May-19 09:07:24

What exactly is a Corbynite? How do I know if I am one ?

Is it like Cellulite or Calamite or even Campsite?

Anniebach Wed 15-May-19 09:01:05

The opinion of a Corbynite atheist,

Back on topic of thread . Yes of the royals, I do respect queenie, Charles, William and Kate, Anne, they carry out their public duties , keep their private lives private, are not
camera chasers.

i am not a fan of Harry and Megan , I don’t think Diana was a saint and camera chasers irritate me.

I have always said I am against the money spent on security for minor royals.

No idea what Gordon Brown and McDonald has to do with
this thread or a posters faith. And surely what a poster says on the religious forum should be disagreed with there .

Eloethan Tue 14-May-19 23:51:56

anniebach It seems that one of the indicators of your total dislike for a person is to spell their names wrongly. I too think it is rude to correct someone's spelling, but when a name comes up over and over again in posts, some people have understandably concluded that your misspelling of certain names is deliberate - you have already acknowledged as much with McDonnell. But it appears you rather like playing the "wronged party" and touting for sympathy.

It also seems that there are certain people you put on a pedestal - eg Gordon Brown, Charles, "queenie", etc - though funnily enough your posts some years ago were fairly disapproving of the royal family. Meanwhile, there are, notably, certain people (Diana, Harry and Meghan to name but a few) for whom you express extreme dislike. Your spiteful innuendos and sarcastic remarks don't, in my opinion, accord with your professed religious beliefs and your preachy contributions in the Religion/Spirituality forum.

gillybob Tue 14-May-19 22:52:51

I think they are mostly all overprivelidged hypocrites . Just to set the record straight.

gillybob Tue 14-May-19 22:51:29

I don’t have much time for any of the royals annie as you well know. I don’t know them (I presume you don’t either????) but I did listen to genuine people speaking well of various member of the rf (past and present) who did know them in real life . As I said they were speaking about Diana (and others) as they found them and I tended to believe them, as I had no reason not to. I couldn’t really give a fig about any of them but it was an interesting program about royal designs and fashion which I really enjoyed. Not one of them said a bad word against Princess Diana.

Anniebach Tue 14-May-19 22:39:41

As you do with the Windsors Gilly ?

gillybob Tue 14-May-19 22:31:17

No one knows the entire truth about another persons life
Most definitely not the press
Snapshots , gossip etc tells us nothing of what goes on behind closed doors

Exactly Bridgeit best just to speak as you find .

Anniebach Tue 14-May-19 21:04:49

I agree Bridgeit. I don’t repeat nonsense from the press, I disagree when their rubbish is claimed to be true . This brings more flack than claiming their rubbish is true.
