New royal baby names

There was a rumour that the baby would have a name which would be a nod to both America, and to Great Britain.
I’m glad that they chose Archie Harrison and not Trump Beefeater!
Seriously, Sincere wishes for a happy life to every little baby in the country, whatever their name, rank or station, and don’t forget that so many need our help and attention far more than this advantaged little lad.

I am never sure why anyone feels they have a right to prefer one name or another for someone else's baby but I do like Archie and can see it becoming popular.

As for remembering old Archie's - that's because we're getting older. These are young people and names have always gone in and out of fashion.

Preferring to like or dislike a name given to a baby isn’t a right , it’s just what people do.

Archie was chosen apparently for its meaning - bold, strong, brave. Harrison was a 'nod' to his Dad Harry. Modern choice no doubt as the baby is not having a title and will be very unlikely to be in line for the throne.

is name is Archie... good bad or indifferent Harry and Meghan choice as it should be he is their child, dont undertand why people think they can be rude to be honest, I am sure if we all put our children and grandchildren names up here some would say Oh thats awful but they were our choice.

Alexander was muted as a favourite and having one myself, although it's a name that is invariably shortened to the diminutive, it did occur to me that every Alex I've ever known, a few, including mine had been naughty at school, so perhaps it's better he's Archie. He does look a gorgeous baby shame about the beanie hat, I'd like to have seen his hair, if he has some. I think on balance the name is quite sweet, not my choice, It's quite prolific already, but I'm sure it will become enormously popular now.

On the last thread to do with this new royal baby, I suggested that the ONLY possible name for him was Harrison.

This was supposed to be a joke.........!!

Personally, though I know it's a trend now, and Archie is popular (for pet animals as well as humans) I still think it's a shame to shorten names. It gives you a choice. If your parents name you Catherine you can still call yourself Kate - if Oliver, likewise Olly etc. etc.....

I know a couple of little Harrisons, who were called that because their parents wanted them to be known as Harry, but didn't want them to be baptised Harold or Henry. (Can't understand why Harry is short for Henry when they are the same length!)
Archie is cute, but makes me think of the ventriloquist's dummy Archie Andrews, who was the first Archie I ever came across when I was little. I suppose Megan and Harry are too young to know about him!
Anyhow, it's entirely their business what they call him and not ours!

Not keen on diminutives used as given name but there again not keen on Archibald! Not my baby so not really my business though.

There's a saying in Scotland if someone has delusions of grandeur or is ''a bit above himself". No idea of the origins.

I’m not saying anything, my new great grandson is called Reggie!!...sigh. All of my granddaughters peers think it wonderful, so it must be a sign that I’m out of touch. Didn’t these parents look so happy and proud as punch. It bought a smile to another wise dull day. Ps we’ve all forgotten our minor dislike of my great grandsons name and adore Reggie.

I have known 2 Archies. One was a friend of DFinL , a delightful man who lived to be 105. The other was an Irish Terrier, owned by DD's MiL, who had a lovely nature. Weirdly, I also have a friend whose dog is called Harrison!
