New royal baby names

"Dumbarton" (Dunbritton) ancient capital of Strathclyde on the shores of the river Clyde ,home and place of death of King Robert the Bruce (,at Cardross on the outskirts of the town).It as seen better days as most small towns but has had some famous sons and daughters down the centuries.Also known as the place where Mary Queen of Scots left for France where she married the Dauphin (heir to the French throne) Its around 15 miles north of Glasgow and 4 miles south of Loch Lomond .Nothing DUMB about it!!

I loved the “Archies” FloraDora and Sugar, Sugar was the first record I ever bought .
I love the name Archie too .

Nothing to do with anyone else, like my choice of names for my children isn't

I am 81 yrs old and my first name is my gg grandmothers surname , been the bane of my life since I was old enough to understand that no one else has this as a forename ! I kid you not , actually I have only ever spoken to one other person with the name , and it is her married surname
My Mother was super trendy for her generation ?

Friends have sons named Blair, Nairn, Gordon and Cameron- all surnames but also quite popular forenames.
I like all of them.
Don't mind Harrison ( as in The Archers) but Harry's son? No!

Don’t like either. Really don’t like surnames used as first names either.

Oh dear we have small Archies in our family ( family name ) and they will be plagued with all the others of the same name that will follow now . The mum of one was asked if her Archie was named after the prince , her Archie is 2 .
Best comment I read was the following
One day they will erect a statue to this royal baby and it will be called " Marble Archie "

And for all who cannot see past Archie ANDREWS, I wonder if it is or was a more popular name in Scotland?
DH had a cousin Archie (who farms the herd that makes a very exclusive M********y Cheddar) and, come to think off it, also a cousin Jasper.
Now there’s a thought!

The queens great grandchildren cannot be a prince or princess with the exception of William’s children.

CanadianGran, I live in a farming area and I don't know a single Archie or Archibald.

Oh dear, as I already said I shall think of the dummy Archie Andrews, each time I hear that name.

Now, if the poor wee mite is going to be saddled with Earl of DUMBarton, it'll be even worse.

stella1949 Thanks for the correction. I got my (dubious) information from a radio conversation heard en route^ to my elder's group. Should have known it was wrong.

I haven't read all of these posts, so perhaps someone else has already pointed out that Harry and Megan do not decide if their new son is going to a Lord or a Prince, or whatever. That is left to the Queen. And it's my guess that the Queen has already decided that this baby will not be a Prince. Hence the choice of 'Archie' - not a royal name - being acceptable.

Maybe if the next one is a girl they’ll call her ‘Biddy’!

I like it, not what I expected. And of course it’s their choice.

There was a time not too long ago where celeb watchers followed the lead of e.g. the Beckhams
and used placenames for their children - Brooklyn, Chelsea.
How long before we see Wayneson or even Archieson?

Harrison is a perfectly good name - I rather like surnames as forenames - but Harry's son?

Lovely names, lovely baby. Archie is sweet, although DS just named his new puppy Archie, oh how we laughed.

I'm happy with Archie my gorgeous baby GS shares the name at the end of the day it's their choice

We have an “Albie” in the family......if only I had a £ for every time we are asked “is it short for Albert” !!!

I like the names. In Iceland all native names end in sonn for a male and dottir for a female prefixed with the father’s given name. So if Olafur Karlson has a son named Gunnar his name would be Gunnar Ólafsson and if he had a daughter her surname would be Ólafdottir. If Gunnar had a son called Andri his son’s name would be Andri Gunnarson.

Like Harrison very much but quite American. Think Archie is awful but everyone is entitled to call their child whatever they like

So interesting!I was telling my son what you said, and we were trying to remember other naming systems like that . The Scottish Mac or Mc is for son of just like the Welsh ap. Fitz stands for son of like the French fils.

Our grandson is Harrison, so we’re delighted with the choice! Archie’s OK too.
