My biggest pet hate at the moment is hearing people on the radio or wherever, when being interviewed, begin a sentence with, 'So'. I could scream! (And often do!) i.e. 'What do you like for breakfast?' 'So, I like cornflakes', etc. 'So' means therefore or very or the case being such. (Politicians use this a lot. Is that little word giving them time to think of an answer ...?) Grrrr!

I don't either ...like David Beckham

There was a letter in the paper recently from a woman who said 'all women love David Beckham because....'. No dear, I don't.

Luckygirl What is usually said is "England ARE playing…" which is even more irritating.

"To die for" always makes me grind my teeth when used to describe everyday things - food, a dress, lipstick etc, etc.

Worst ever to me was one of those vacuous journalists who write drivel in the Sunday papers, saying, 'Let's face it, we're all obsessed with celebrities.'

No, dear, we're not. Some of couldn't give a flying f***.
(OK, I will admit that I shouldn't have been reading her vacuous drivel in the first place.)

I hate the saying " the whole town is coming to terms with " something. How do they know , have they asked everybody ?

I logged off here and went to listen to music, something I rarely do. 'From the Lambing to the Wool' is a favourite because I used to sing it in the folk clubs.
But up popped another Judy Small song, 'You Don't Speak For Me.' More or less voicing the same frustrations spoken about here.

Yes but.... It is just as easy to say 'Most of us' 'Many people'.

I think what I dislike most is the assumption of uniformity and by definition the denial that people could think other.

I suppose generalisations are just figures of speech and not to be taken literally.

Nor am I allied to any fashion ('we were all wearing......in the 70's') or songs ('we all listened to.....') Neither do I watch ('we all know what happened to ......on Coro').

But it doesn't annoy me because it's simply not true..

Also the vast sweeping statements about the recent past. The sweeping statements that before about 1980, all married women stayed at home and didn't work, that all girls conformed to gender stereotypes and never challenged them, that all men acted as masters in their own home and ruled them with a rod of iron, that women never had bank accounts and had to ask their husbands for every penny and justify every item of clothing they needed.

I'm another who can't stand the " must have " brigade, phoenix. To me it shouts greed besides it being insensitive to those who " can't have " and never having a hope in Hell's chance of ever " having ".
