Why not me or my family?

I've been called once, but don't know of anyone else who has been. DH was quite jealous!

I don’t know anyone who has been. But when working in a Jobcentre, many clients were called. It made a right mess of their payments.

I hated doing it and having had a great belief in the jury system beforehand I would now change it in a heartbeat. The trial I sat on was heartrending and I believe the jury system badly let down the victim.

Then to compound the whole farcical business jurists are not allowed to talk about the trial or what happens in the jury room without being found in contempt of court. So, hypothetically speaking, if I thought the jury I sat on did not discharge their duties as well as they should or could have, there is no legal forum for me to say so and to describe why.

Never been called, thankfully, and never will be now. One of my daughters was called, was there for several days, but never went into court.

I’m the only person I know who has been called up. Many years ago. I was elected spokesperson.

Entirely random. I am the only person to be called in my family and I was called twice between the ages of 60 and 65. I remember having a work colleague who had served on a jury twice before she was 25.

Random as far as I know. I was called in the 70s when my oldest children were very small and got an exemption, as you could for that reason in those days. I was called years later in 2003, when I was working in a small social care project, then again barely 2 years later. I managed to get an exemption that latter time as my boss had an overseas trip booked and the project couldn’t run without one of us being there! Blow me I was called again in 2007! My husband has been called twice and and two of our children have also served. Did wonder if it was because our surname is at the beginning of the alphabet!

I have never been called and I'd love to do it. One of my daughters has been called twice and my brother has done it too. He was part of a jury on a very big case.

I'd volunteer if I could. I am just curious really. Jury service would be on a tick list of things I'd like to do.

I have done it once, had a broken arm at the time so did another lady, we got quite chatty while we waited to be called and stayed in touch for a while afterwards. It is random but 7 of us in the family have been called up at various times all over the country

I've been called for jury service three times.
The first time was a case that lasted a week and I missed my house flitting. But my DH said things went swimmingly without me!
I was excused serving the second time as one of the accused was an ex pupil.
My third time was last summer during a spell of glorious weather and I'm happy to say I wasn't chosen.

Never been called . My daughter has been called twice

I thought my son was young at 27! He is the only person in my family to have done it so far. I’m too old now, thank goodness. I’d HATE to do it.

My son was called up literally days after his 18th birthday.

I have done it once and found it very interesting. I'm sure we weren't locked in when deliberating, though we did have our phones taken away and were not supposed to talk to anyone except our fellow jurors about the case. I am sure we could go to the loo when necessary!

Nanabilly, we were locked in a room only when deliberating over the verdict - a nice bright airy room, with lunch and drinks provided.

My MiL was once quite put out because I was called when on annual leave from Oman - though I was excused since I had a young breastfed baby - and she - a very upstanding citizen! - had never been called. Neither had FiL or eithe of my parents.

I was called again a couple of years ago (over 30 years after the first call). I found it very interesting, and it was very reassuring to see how our justice system worked - how it was impressed on us that if we had the slightest doubt, we must return a Not Guilty verdict. Which to me has to be better than the other way around.

But yes, I do think it's quite random, though some people do seem to be called more than others.

I was called once, but excused when my boss informed them that I was indispensable during a very busy week at the beginning of the college term.

It is random but I have never been called as I was exempt too.

I have never been called - during my working life I was exempt as the people in the dock might have been clients of mine!

I was called once, 43 years ago. I was heavily pregnant and could have got away with that as an excuse I suppose but went ahead as was interested. Neither Dh or both our children never been called. It’s random.

I have been called three times,let off twice,once due to child care problems,and once after my daughter died,I was picked to sit on two seperate cases during my fortnight stint,both drugs cases,very interesting.

I was called about 25 years ago but they let me off as I was starting s new job the very same week. Never been called back and don’t want to be. My Dad was called once and didn’t enjoy it at all.
My Sister in Law was called and was unlucky enough to be on a very nasty murder trial. She found it harrowing. She was assured she would never be called again.

DiL is convinced we are not respectable citizens!

I would love to do it but then I heard you get locked in a room and I know I would have a panic attack as an claustrophobic so then change my mind.
I know a couple people who have done it .my husband and dad.they hated it.
