Shameful confession!

Christopher Nolan - Director of the dreadful (imo) Dunkirk.

This (above) is why many people feel they have to fawn and critics give rave reviews. Heaven forbid they don't know greatness when they see it.... I thought the film didn't do justice to the event or people/heroes of it. And as for the soundtrack drowning out everything..

Why was LaLa land so hyped up? That was a bit of a damp squib too imo. A real non-starter.

I didn't feel much for the Greatest Showman either. It was OK, but quite schmaltzy imo, and intended to appeal to a younger audience. I have friends who rave about it. Hugh Jackman is always watchable imo.

Oh MOnica I loved 'Brief Encounter'. It was made many years ago and that's how they liked their films and I was happy to immerse myself in that era!

Brief Encounter is on iplayer at the mo. I’m off to watch it again, love that film.........

I agree with maw that "underwhelming" is the word for Greatest Showman and Mamma Mia 2.
Thoroughly enjoyed Wicked and love Les Mis - the film just once but I've lost count of the number of times I've seen it on stage. I'm sure I'll right in saying.u

I love Brief Encounter, with all it's terriblys, awfullys, and dreadfullys in the dialogue! {grin]

Absolutely love that plummy way of speaking. OH and I often have a laugh speaking to each other like that. "You were frightfully decent about that dreadful wine..."

I love most old black and white films. 'Now Voyager' with Bette Davis is my favourite. (We used to watch many of them with my Mum on BBC2 on Saturday afternoons, long after they were made.)

KatyK, at last, until now I thought I was alone in the world. Even my nearest and dearest, have deserted me on this subject and just suggest I lie down until I feel better!

A friend of mine has booked to see 'Wicked' for the 6th time I've not seen it.
Another friend is going to watch 'Rivet Dance' for the 4th time. Now just the idea of that makes my eyelids droop.

I have to confess to having seen Blood Brothers five times and Buddy four.

I love Blood Brothers and Les Mis I must like the darker musicals don’t like the light and Disney like ones unless they are made for young kids then they are ok but if they are Disney like for adults oh the saccharine gets on my nerves

Th musical I disliked most was Cars just didn’t ge5 it at all

What a treat to find others who can't stand 'Brief Encounter'. I've never been able to sit through it without getting 'twitchy'! I also confess to never having sat through 'The Sound of Music'.

I'm another that didn't rate it as one of my fave musicals... couldn't understand why everyone loved it... I did try... my very best... LaLa Land on the other hand I absolutely loved ( and every time i watch it ... i love it more n more) and everyone I knew hated it............ Maybe I'm just a wee bit weird

sunseeker, have enjoyed this thread - I nearly walked out of Greatest Showman, I was with my husband and we just ended up laughing we disliked it so much. Like you with 50 Shades, started to read it, dreadful, but what a winner for the author! Don't let's start on the 50 Shades Films .............

But I LOVED it!

Nina presuming you mean river dance I reluctantly saw lord of the dance with Michael flatly and have to say it was incredible live, the precision and energy was breathtaking so I was proved wrong as thought it would be boring

Oh its awful... totally fluffed up an awful man and sad lives of the circus acts.

... and then it has those damn catchy songs that you end up singing along to even though you hate them!

I enjoyed Wicked. Not enough to see it multiple times but enjoyed the show.

I hate Les Mis. Its just "yack". Its the most "luvvie" show on earth... but then so is Cats which I LOVE

I like phantom. I HATED Lion King.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to what I enjoy

Am not a big disney fan so surprised myself when I was blown away by the beauty and the beast stage show! I was mesmerised by how the live actors moved just like cartoon characters! Loved it!

The only proper Ballet I have been to was Nutcracker. Most tedious couple of hours of my life.

I also hate panto So am not quite sure where my tastes lie on the low/high brow spectrum LOL

I couldnt read 50 shades, so badly written, and I usually LIKE trashy novels.

LOVE singing in the rain. HATE mama mia, I mean despise it to an irrational degree. Am neutral about frozen, it was everywhere a few years back so I just decided to embrace it I suppose.

Dunkirk doesnt appeal, neither does la la land.

I hate Charlie and the Chocolate factory (and all Rold Dahl actually) both the old and the new version, but quite like the new Alice in Wonderland which is odd because its so similar to the new charlie & chocolate factory.

Loved La La Land the first time I watched it, so when it came onto DVD got a copy and watched it agsi . Hated it !
Stopped watching and gave the DVD away.
