They're so well matched

trisher Fri 26-Apr-19 15:53:56

UGH! Widdiecombe and Farage, that image is stuck in my head. Can't think of anything worse.

Annie grin

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 16:17:09

Lily, she’s still rude.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 16:40:29

YAB is quite a robust debater I would say but as a black woman she has been subject to a great deal of abuse and racism so I think she generally comes out fighting now. I remember one instance in particular maybe Any Questtions when Norman Tebbitt was incredibly racist and dismissive towards her. As for the video clip, might be interesting to watch whole programme to really judge it ( but she probably was on fighting form)

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 16:54:26

Well she is certainly a feisty and spirited woman. I’ve seen her quite a lot on different programmes and I realised she has an Asian background but didn’t realise she was from Uganda. I remember the Asians being expelled from Uganda, she must have been quite young when that happened, and it no doubt had a profound impact on her. I’m glad she’s found success in the country she’s made her home, and it goes without saying that no one should have to endure racism. Despite all this I have seen her regularly shout other people down, and it’s really not good manners to do that.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 16:57:08

I agree maddy that she could dial it down a notch and be more effective for so doing.

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 16:58:51

Maryeliza, I think you’re absolutely right.

JenniferEccles Fri 26-Apr-19 17:22:28

Well she might be all those things Lily65 but she is also one of those interminably boring people who, whenever a tv camera or microphone is pointed at them, bang on and on about alleged 'racism'.

No-one else could get a word in with all her screeching.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:25:40

I’ve only seen the clip so can’t comment on that JE. She was like that all through the programme? The Chair should have done a better job then

Nonnatimesfour Fri 26-Apr-19 17:28:32

Ann Widdecombe for Prime Minister ! She is wonderful. It was Yasmin who was very rude on the Jeremy Vine programme. Well done Ann for talking sense.

GillT57 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:32:48

I am disturbed by the number of people on here defending the ghastly AW, she is anti women as far as I am concerned, but I am cheered by JenniferEccles comment : I'm delighted that such a high profile figure has joined Farage's Brexit party for I hope that she may repel a few of those who would vote for the Brexit party. The Brexit party is supposed to be about 'taking back control' which is rich when you consider that she won't even let women have control of their own bodies.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:38:55

I’m disturbed but not surprised Gill. There’s always a strong current of misogyny on GN ( often coupled with ageism )

JanaNana Fri 26-Apr-19 17:58:21

I watched Jeremy Vine yesterday, and as on most of his programmes and equally when Matthew Wright hosted it, the panel are chosen for their opposing views. It would be a boring programme if there were no controversial viewpoints. Whether you like Ann W. or not you just knew it was going to be like this when Yasmin A-Brown was also a guest on the same panel. Yasmin has been a guest frequently on both Jeremy/Matthew programmes and hardly a time when she is not just plain rude and deliberately argumentative. Other guests on many occasions get shouted down by her and are not allowed to finish their own comment. Ann W. has always had a no-nonsense approach, that is nothing new. She says it as it without all the political correctness wrapping it up. Everyone is allowed their own opinions whether on a TV show, or on here, or in our private lives.

Lily65 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:58:56

er no....there is no " alleged" racism. There is racism.....as in the UKIP poster. I will provide a link if needed.

Lily65 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:59:55

" no nonsense" ok what does that mean?

Sorry but take a click on this.

annodomini Fri 26-Apr-19 18:02:19

Fortunately, the ship has sailed as far as AW and the top job are concerned. Heaven help the EU Parliament if she is elected to that!

Lily65 Fri 26-Apr-19 18:07:42

political correctness wrapping it up.???

"Take back control of our borders" - but not our only land border with an EU country.

If the brexit nonsense is not stopped, there won't be a border on the island of Ireland, so not only can goods (which might be substandard rubbish from anywhere) freely cross that border, but people, including the entire population of Romania and Bulgaria who might travel freely to the Republic of Ireland, as they are quite entitled to do, can then take a bus or a train or just saunter across the non-existent border into NI and then go on to the rest of the UK.

How is that "taking back control of our borders"???????

Lily65 Fri 26-Apr-19 18:21:30

Oh Lordy how those flag wavers would love to take back control.

Slightly unfortunate, its not 1940 any more.
