Unexpected moment of bliss

It is great when you can't sleep and then you do. I have been sleeping well for the last week, although I don't expect to sleep right through the night any more. I feel so much better and can get much more done during the daytime which is just as well as my flat needs a lot of cleaning and clearing.
It will change when my neighbour comes back but for now it is very peaceful.
A peaceful day with moments of quiet is enough for me now. I have the TV on but if I turned it off everything would be silent, there is a light breeze and sunny day.
It is my mother's 94th birthday today so I will call her later. She is getting a little more difficult to talk to as her short term memory is good but for her age is doing well.

In and out of bed not being able to sleep due to RLS, my blissful moment came when I applied a cream prescribed by my GP. Capsaicin cream allowed me a blissful moment and continues to do so as the relief from RLS is wonderful.

I would highly recommend asking your GP for a script Coolgran

I'm a long-term insomniac too and take magnesium to prevent restless legs (available in tablets, capsules and also as a cream).

When I lived in the UK it was the World Service which kept me company, now I have an audio book and CD player (with earphone attached if I have guests) beside my bed.

It stops me thinking too much and sometimes I even fall asleep listening to the stories, so I long ago learned to enjoy my insomnia.

My latest 'moment of bliss' was sitting beneath a flawless sky in the warm sunshine, listening to a Tui in the tree high above. Wonderful smile

If you'd like to listen too.

I didn't notice it was on the food thread either. My other blissful moment comes around 9.15am when I have walked the dogs, fed the cat, emptied the dishwasher. I can then sit down with a big cup of coffee and look at GN. Small pleasures but so glad I can enjoy them.

Phoenix I’ve only just seen that this is on the food thread ..... and was hoping no one would notice.... lol.
Guess I wasn’t fully awake from my blissful moment.

Pink quartz - Duck and drake coming into the garden sounds beautiful.

Tangerine.....After all these years I no longer worry at night about how I will or won’t sleep. If I’m awake then I’m up out of bed. Read a lot and peruse GM but, oh, it is a long night.

Crazyh... I’ve tried all the sleeping medication that dr can offer, without success. Delighted they work for you.

Curling up for a wee nap or read doesn’t happen often because of RLS symptoms.
That’s why today was so blissful.

Pleased for you Coolgran65 but wondering why you posted this on the "Food" thread! grin

I was expecting to read about chocolate, or ice cream.......

Sadly, I have to depend on sleeping tabs to get about 7 hours sleep. I tried weaning them off but I was awake the whole night or two. So,I am back on them. My point is , at my age, who cares, as long as I can get a few hours sleep , any which way.

Lovely feeling Coolgran try that again for another few hours bliss.
My bliss is curling up in bed with a good book too.

I also have terrible insomnia ever since I became every ill and in a lot of pain. Some how the switch in the brain to go to sleep just never happens to me at night anymore.

Every now and again I can have a nap in daylight hours.
It is a lovely restful feeling.
Otherwise my bliss is usually being out in nature somewhere very peaceful, or feeding the wild ducks that come into the garden for feeding. I love being with them. It is only in the spring when they are getting ready to nest that they do this. At the moment it is a duck and drake who waddle around like any other couple being together. I find them relaxing to watch.

My other usual moments of bliss are sadly long gone wink

Do you think you slept so well because it was during the day and you weren't concentrating on going to sleep? Perhaps you worry about going to sleep during the night which is counter-productive.

Insomnia is a horrible thing to have and I don't think people always realise this.

I sleep well usually.

Glad you had a splendid nap! Think I need to have an early night.....I read: DH went off his bowels ?

What was your moment of Bliss ??

Coolgran65 Mon 22-Apr-19 21:09:33

I suffer from severe insomnia and have done so for about 30 years, managing on approximately 3 hours per night. It's hard but just how it is. Restless legs 24/7 is behind it all and is a constant challenge.

This afternoon dh went off to his bowls match and after a while I went to lie on the bed and read, hope for a little doze, something I just never do.

I woke up as dh arrived home after 4 and came up to the bedroom. Great I'd had an hour's nap. Chatted for 5 minutes and decided to read for a few minutes before getting up.

Wow.... Next I knew it was 8pm. 4 hours plus 1 hour..... 5 hours. Unheard of !!!

Total bliss.... Such a simple thing for most folk.... Everything to me.
