Thinking of all with buggerations but can't help being excited. Packing tonight for a 3 week holiday in Tenerife. So looking forward to it. Love shopping at the markets for fresh produce, the cooking is such a pleasure in a different situation. TOYA

Hi everyone, I haven’t popped in for ages, but I thought I’d take refuge from the Brexit threads and visit the cosy cafe instead. It feels calm and peaceful to be popping in here. Last time I was in the cosy cafe lots of posters were experiencing some truly sad times, I sincerely hope things are improving for everyone who visits here. There seems to be some holiday chat and lots of happy news on the little bit I’ve read (I can’t possibly read back to my last post, it was sooo long ago.)

Anyway, if anyone remembers, my daughter’s dog had a difficult time pre Christmas and had a big operation. Poor, poor, dear little girl (well quite big girl actually as she’s a Labrador) but it happened again (slipped disc) and she had to have the operation all over again, and as her family were off on holiday, we said we’d visit at the hospital, The Fitzpatrick Referrals Hospital near Guildford (it’s been on the telly) but this time she’s done really well, so fingers crossed, all will be well.

It’s so nice to be on a calm thread again.

So happy to see Izabella back in the kitchen! You’ve been missed!

Will there be fish and chips Soop? If so I envy you. I’ve been trying to loose some weight before my trip to Cape Cod in a few weeks.....bet there will be chips there!

I’m excited tonight because I’m standing in for my SiL at my DD’s scan tomorrow. The baby’s due in August and as a Gran it’s a privilege to get a preview!

Panache you are always so upbeat and supportive and I am sorry you have both had a bad time this Easter. Hope things improve very soon.

Izabella we have have all missed you but it’s so good to hear that you have had a lovely break and have caught up with your friend.

Syn it’s going to be a learning curve. When you think about the weight of the missing leg, it’s understandable that balance is going to be tricky. So glad no serious damage was done.

DH has had a difficult few days and is totally fed up with his various problems - arthritis in spine, torn tendon in shoulder and the neurological problem. I am so proud of him - he’s not bad tempered at all, just a bit down. Specialist appt tomorrow so then we will know what we are dealing with. DD and DGD spent today with us. DH decided to stay home rather come out with us for lunch. I totally understand at the moment he prefers to stay home and chill.

* Anno* sounds like a lovely day apart from the melted egg of course lol We had a similar issue with funny putty , it melted all over the table overnight and then dripped all over Grampy's pouffe ….which will never be the same again quite honestly !

GQ we have an emotional boy also , sometimes his words cant come together but the tears can and do. I think they will grow out of it .

Syn sorry that things didn't go entirely to plan. Certainly I wouldn't rush into anything hoist wise. I love mine and often joke when I'm really old you can hook it to my knickers and swing me into the boot !!

Grampy saw the osteopath and things are not as bad as we feared, basically he has just overdone it with the gardening so he is taking it easy !! Everyone finally left yesterday and we will take several days to get things straight and recover. Ill leave you with a couple of photos of our weekend !!

anno your Easter weekend sounds great fun. Cats are canny creatures. They do not suffer dogs if they can help it. A hiss can put the fear of the devil into any unsuspecting canine.
As for the mishap with the melting chocolate...I've done something similar from time to time. I usually drop a piece down the side of the chair and it melts on to my clothing. I have also dropped a piece down my bra (not knowingly) and finished up with a choc smeared breast. Such fun!

We will be travelling to the Oban hospital tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will be pleasant. At some time during the day I shall pop in to say hello to you lovely lot.

Back home from family weekend in Oxfordshire. DS1 brought a car load from Sandhurst though DGD2 was on cadet camp and her brother skiing with the school, so didn't have the full complement of GC. GD1 brought her lively terrier and I expected a showdown when the cats got wind of her. No problem: feisty cat just had to hiss and spit, and the poor dog turned tail and fled. Cat kept a wary eye on proceedings from under a bench in the garden. We had a huge alfresco lunch in the garden and all were suitably replete. I had earlier had a mishap with an Easter egg given to me by my DS2. Sitting on the sofa with the sun streaming in, I suddenly noticed that the egg was fast melting, as I'd been holding it as we chatted! Tasted good though.

New fencing being erected in garden , will take two days, work continuing at front of house for Fred’s new home, dog walker on holiday, dogs going stir crazy and I think I will take to alcohol.

Yay! Welcome back to virtual reality *Izabella. You were missed. We did begin to fret. However, it is good to know that you had a cruise of a lifetime. So many memories to record and photos to keep and enjoy whenever the mood takes you.
Grey I chuckled out loud when I read your post. I shared it with MacSporran. I also thought that you were expecting the tribe of wherever to decend on your home and eat everything within sight. Loved the story of your helper in the garden.

Panache Sorry to hear that your husband has had a rough time over the weekend. I trust that he will be well cared for and receive the treatment that should help him to feel more comfortable.

The care home visit was a mixture of laughter and moments when I thought - how do the carers manage to remain sane. I'm sure that I would crumble under the relentless barrage of thankless tasks that they deal with day in, day out. They deserve proper recognition.

Good to see you Izabella. I’m going to whisper this oh so quietly, I am ashamed to say I found cruising the length if the Panama Canal a little, err, tiring and slept for half of the day it took. Oops . Sounds as if you had a wonderful time, I’m so pleased for you.

This cooking for a crowd lark is an odd one, I used to do it on auto pilot, now I’m with you greyd, the skills needed for organisation seem to have departed. To be fair I’m happy enough to hand over responsibility for mass catering to the younger ones.

Having caught up with the admin this morning now comes today’s treat - I’m off to the tip. It’s been said that I know how to live. .

Welcome back Izabella, glad the cruise was a good experience and good fun too. We went on a large cruise ship 8 years ago... right till the end of the week I couldn’t master the layout of the boat. On more than one occasion I gamely set off to get us both a drink... only to discover I’d no idea how to find my way back!!

Lovely to see you again Izabella and that cruise sounds fantastic. Fresh farm butter? Oh, the childhood memories that conjures up - eggs from the hen's field at the corner and milk delivered in a jug. The butcher's van went out of favour, well the butcher himself really, when he told me the leg of lamb my mum was buying was running around the field behind us the previous week!

I have been to the Panama Canal with my carer (current husband) on a cruise to various other places too and had the time of my life. Also a joyful reunion with a friend in Miami on the way home. We made a point of writing things down and taking pictures so that my memory can be prompted. I never did manage to find my way around the ship unaided, but was helped by CH and many kind people.

I should be starting new medication for my Alzheimers today but am worried as nightmares are associated with them, so I am spending this afternoon in contact with my alzheimers nurse after a bit of research on google scholar.

I had no internet whilst away, so am not up to date with kitchen activities. I wont remember if I trawl back through now so will try and catch up as we go. I am, however, thinking of everyone and welcome if anyone is new.

Gq I feel for your GS, and there is no shame in tears - there would have been adults shedding them yesterday I am sure. I’m afraid that in this household, there were those relying heavily on the outcome of that game. I am not a fan of professional football, and this point in the season is a nightmare if you live with those who are. As for my catering skills, I find it hard to manage lunch for two these days, never mind twenty-two ?! My organisational skills in the kitchen have gone way downhill recently.

Well, I had better get back to my ironing. It shouldn’t take an hour to eat a slice of toast and drink a cup of Bovril, now should it? I will look in later.
