Feeling my age ...

I was at a Living Museum a few years ago and explaining things in the grocery shop (had to explain what that was) to a child and the person working there was so impressed with my knowledge she assumed I was a teacher of history!

One of the nicest exhibitions I went to was in the Assembly Rooms in Bath where they were exhibiting Laura Ashley clothes from the beginning of the company. I had owned several of the dresses and it was lovely remembering floating around like a milkmaid in the late 60s!

Why does vintage sound so much nicer than antique?

Whilst visiting the Glasgow Transport Museum, I was able to point out to my son, some of the baby clothes I had dressed him in from Mothercare.

Seventy years ago when my son was a baby I bought a cast iron mincer. Last year saw one in a museum. I still have a can opener which my mother gave me when I was first married and sometimes have to use it when modern openers refuse to work.

I had never watched Call the Midwife as my husband didn’t want to. Since his death a friend advised me to watch as she thought I might like it. Oh dear! It was exactly as I remembered when I did my Midwifery training in East London in the 60’s! It made me feel so old!? but I did enjoy it!

I went to a local museum, and in the shop was a book of old photos of our area - with me on one of them.!
Now that really made me feel ancient..!!

Only 50 years ago, televisions had to be left to warm up when switched on and had valves similar to light bulbs in the workings! Try explaining that to teenage granddaughters!

Went into a 'vintage' shop about a month ago and hanging on the wall was a net petticoat, the kind I used to sugar to make stiff!

I'm not old either, I also am vintage

One of my granddaughters is taking A level History; one of the periods she is studying is 1950s to 1990s. I am a Living Artefact ?

I realised recently that the phrase, 'well, seventy years ago...' was creeping into my discourse!

I've spent many years as a teacher trying to convince children that mobiles didn't exist when I was a child!

Maagicmaggie, I love that shop Bygones. It is such fun.

We are 'oldies but goodies' I like to think.

I recently went to a fantastic museum in Marychurch,
Devon called Bygones.
In particular there were displays dating back from the 50s
and 60s. that I had either eaten, drunk , worn or used.
It was a lovely trip down memory lane ?

When you see a doll you had as a child (well still have her) in an antique shop....sighs

When my friends and I went to the Tenement Museum in New York it was like walking into our London Victorian terraced houses that we both lived in. They even had the same cast iron black range I had in mind!
