What are you doing on Mothers Day?

I've made Mothers Day cards for my Mum and my MiL and I'm making a cake to take. MiL and DM love home made things. I know MiL will be missing seeing her Grand daughters and great Grandchildren who she hasnt seen since November 2018. She cries about this a lot and we try to comfort her, but it's sad. I might tell her that my Gs has gone back to China, but it might make her too sad. At least she got to meet him once.
My Mum is too far away to visit, but I've posted her something nice. This Mother's day I am going to miss two of my (absent) sons and my Grandson who I suspect won't be in England, but I'm going to focus on trying to make it good for my MiL and being happy with what I do have. I think sometimes "happy" occaisions aren't always easy for a lot of people for various reasons. I appreciate my MiL because without her I wouldn't have my DH.

As I had no children Sunday will just be another day for me. I have organised for flowers to be delivered to my Mother, who lives in Australia.

I wish all Mothers, Grandmothers, and Great Grandmothers a lovely day - and for those of you who will not be receiving anything on Mothers Day flowers

No mother or MiL for a long time.
Was going to have family/Gdcs here for a brunch, since we have lovely goodies from a gift hamper to use up. But dd who works for a big aid agency will now be off to the cyclone disaster area. Conditions are obviously dire and I'll be worried until she's safely back Meantime will take the brunch to son in law/Gdcs and see the rest of them there.

* Maw* smile
I will be having a rest! I have had a week of childminding, starting at noon on Saturday and finishing around 5 this evening, mostly caring for sick children. Much as I love them, and am happy to help my daughters and partners, I am absolutely exhausted! Someone on another thread was talking about this: how we managed perfectly well in our 20s and 30s, but are finding it hard in our 60s and 70s. Tomorrow we are having an extended family lunch in the village where my father was born, I will go to my partner’s on Saturday evening, then he has promised breakfast in bed after a lie in.

Sadly my Mum passed 17 years ago, but often think of her, and also of my GN, lovely lady, loved by all. So will be remembering both of them fondly. DS is cooking a delicious roast for us at his house, bless him.

I will see both my daughters we are all having brunch together and have booked an evening roast at the local pub. It’s lovely to see them regularly now living so close together after living 150 miles apart for many years. I will get a small present and card from DD1 and DD2 has bought me a card and a bouquet of tulips ( my favourite flower) which she has done with her own money from the age of 11, she is now 35! It’s tradition now! I will also get a card from my two little granddaughters . I know I’m very lucky and will enjoy the day altogether. My own mother and MIL are long gone. DD1 will also be spoilt but DD2 doesn’t have children but “shares” her nieces who think their auntie is wonderful

For the first time I won't be cooking the family dinner. Younger daughter has that pleasure this year.

This year I decided to order flowers and chocs to be delivered to my DD (GSs' mum) on Saturday. Message in the card to read: Best Mum Award 2019. Because, quite honestly, I think she is.

KatyK Fri 29-Mar-19 09:42:59

That's lovely Maw . My DD has said that to me in the past although she is a far better mum than I was.

AllatSea48 Fri 29-Mar-19 09:42:48

Harris27, what a difficult time for you, ...flowers

KatyK Fri 29-Mar-19 09:41:26

My mum and mother-in-law died almost 50 years ago when me and DH were both in our 20s. DD was going to book afternoon tea for us but couldn't get in anywhere so she is doing afternoon tea for us at her house smile She will be missing her own DD who is at uni but I'm sure she will do something nice for her mum.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 09:25:16

Oh Maw what a touching thing for your daughter to say! Just lovely.

grannyactivist Fri 29-Mar-19 09:04:35

I will have one son and grandson staying over for the weekend and my parents-in-law have been invited for Sunday lunch. My daughter-in-law's family live about ten doors away from my house, so I expect she and my son will split their time between us, it's their first Mothering Sunday as parents. smile

One of my daughters is in NZ and I will get a FaceTime call perhaps and the other will be at her own church in the morning and then spend the day with her own little boys.

It’s hard when you have just lost your Mum, all those bittersweet memories.
The MD after I lost my mother I couldn’t help buying a card and sent it to my favourite (actually only) aunt with whom I got on very well.
That’s what Mothering Sunday is about isn’t it? Remembering with love and gratitude for bringing us into the world, “paying it forward” to our own daughters and watching their achievements as mothers.
I once told DD how I admired the way she was bringing up her children and was immensely touched when she replied “I learned it from the best, Mum”
(And I don’t think she meant Gina Ford or Mumsnet grin )

Anniebach Fri 29-Mar-19 09:01:39

Always loved Mothering Sunday .

It will be a sad day this year.

Younger daughter doesn’t have children.

My three grandchildren don’t now have their mother

I will miss my darling elder daughter.

But I was blessed with many happy Mothering Sunday’s and wish the same happiness to all x

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 08:49:31

? for you Harris27

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 08:48:06

Son in law is cooking roast lamb and suggested to DD2 she invite us and my father as he would be on his own otherwise as mum died last March, a few days shy of MD. This therefore will be the second one without that lovely lady. We all miss her very much. She was a wise old bird with a great sense of humour.

Another mum, nan and great nanna here. In other words a dinosaur !
There's usually a card within this next day or two from D in Oz, along with flowers courtesy of Ocado ( M&S ).
Daughter here will be working but will pop in at some point.
Nothing can ever be arranged because of her job but I'm not that bothered as my eating times are hit and miss and not to time which becomes of pleasing myself over the years. I only eat when hungry and not just because it's lunchtime/dinnertime.

Harris27 Fri 29-Mar-19 08:46:20

Well this is going to be a rather odd mothers day for me as my boys are away to Wembley to see their team play. Also my mother died on tuesdaynaftera long battle with Alzheimer's so a very lonely poignant day for me. I will busy myself with house chores and my garden and radio but it will be hard her funeral is thursady her wedding anniversary. Bless you all enjoy it whatever you are doing.

Lavazza1st Fri 29-Mar-19 08:38:42

I dont like gifts much either as we have enough things already. If I'm going to get a gift, I prefer it to be useable, but I'm really not bothered.

Left to myself Id probably be spending the afternoon sewing or being creative in another way. We will go to church in the morning too, it will be much like any other day as we visit MiL every sunday anyway. I prefer to make it all about her as I dont have little kids anymore.

cornergran Fri 29-Mar-19 08:34:54

Breakfast in bed (thank you Mr C) followed by a walk by the sea in my favourite location. I’ll think of my Mum and Ma in law with love and sadness for their loss. The younger ones are busy with their own families, the grandchildren rightly focused on their Mums.

Auntieflo Fri 29-Mar-19 08:31:01

Sorry about the double post, fat fingers this morning

Auntieflo Fri 29-Mar-19 08:30:20

We shall go to Church. DH is doing the AV system, then on to lunch at DD. She has invited her MIL, so we can have a good catch up. Our GD will be there with her husband and our GGS. Our GS will also be visiting from London and we will hear all about his new job.
I have promised to take a fruit crumble as one of the puds.
My own dear Mum's ashes were scattered in our garden, nearly 30 years ago, so will talk to her before we go out.
I am the older generation now, so a mum, gran and great gran. Oh my, can I really be that ancient?

We are going to the Florimania Exhibition at Hampton Court Palace

Lily65 Fri 29-Mar-19 08:20:39

I don't know and I don't care.

dragonfly46 Fri 29-Mar-19 08:13:27

Maw that gift is a lovely idea.

My DS is taking his wife and two children out to lunch and spoiling them.
We are going down to stay with DD and SiL until Sunday when we will come back and have lunch with friends from the golf club.
I will go and see my Mum on Monday as I cannot be in two places at once and the decision to go to London was last minute. I have a card and a cardigan for her but she will neither know me or what day it is.
