What are you doing on Mothers Day?
(139 Posts)I've made Mothers Day cards for my Mum and my MiL and I'm making a cake to take. MiL and DM love home made things. I know MiL will be missing seeing her Grand daughters and great Grandchildren who she hasnt seen since November 2018. She cries about this a lot and we try to comfort her, but it's sad. I might tell her that my Gs has gone back to China, but it might make her too sad. At least she got to meet him once.
My Mum is too far away to visit, but I've posted her something nice. This Mother's day I am going to miss two of my (absent) sons and my Grandson who I suspect won't be in England, but I'm going to focus on trying to make it good for my MiL and being happy with what I do have. I think sometimes "happy" occaisions aren't always easy for a lot of people for various reasons. I appreciate my MiL because without her I wouldn't have my DH.
I've no idea. My own lovely mum is in a nursing home with dementia. When I visit she might recognise me or she might not. I miss her so much, even though she's still there. I will take her flowers and sit with her for a while. We'll look at photos and I'll have a card for her but she won't know what it is and will draw all over it or tear it into tiny pieces. I don't mind, she can be a bit erratic.
My grown up sons will probably phone me but otherwise it'll be a normal Sunday, getting ready for work on Monday.
Please call it Mothering Sunday - original names are being lost such as Shrove Tuesday has become Pancake Day.
Church as usual then daughters are coming to Sunday dinner (lunchtime), Yorkshire Pudding as a first course, beef second course, one DD is bringing the pudding. No MiL for the last couple of years so no more struggling for me to find a card that says Mothering Sunday to give her. It almost coincides with my birthday so in spite of saying I don't need a present I expect there will be one.
My DD took me for a delicious afternoon tea yesterday as she will be working on Mother's day. A big surprise is my DS is taking me, and my DGS, to see The Legends Game at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Sooo excited.
I'm in Durham for the weekend. My sister and brother in law have recently moved here, so I'm being the nosey big sister, and going to see their new house tomorrow. On Mothering Sunday we will be driving home. ?
Were going on a "Bear Hunt" with young gs picnic of honey butties (bears like honey butties for those of you who know the story)
There's a tunnel nearby where gs thinks the Bear lives .Then prob pizza n wedges back home.
My own mum will be at my brothers celebrating then I shall take my mum out for lunch one day but we never book things on mothers day.too Commercialised .
On Saturday my DH and I will travel to see my mother who has Alzheimer's and is in a residential care home adjacent to where my sister lives. His mother is, sadly, no longer with us but when she was alive we made a fuss for Mother's Day.
With my DM I'm not sure what to expect as a fall affected her considerably and my sister says she is the only person mum recognises now. Still, I will see her, which is the main thing.
In the afternoon my DD is coming to cook me dinner and stay over so that she is with me on the morning of Mother's Day. At this very minute she is with her DP at his mother's so they can do the celebration with her too.
Mother's Day is very important to all of us. You only get one mother and though mine would not have attained an OFSTED 'outstanding' I couldn't care less and love her dearly.
I shall be alone as usual but son will probably send a potted plant.
When I was little it was called. Mothering Sunday and we gave our Mum a bunch of violets and primroses picked inthe nearby woods and went to Sunday School.
My adult children are travelling 'home' to take me and OH out to dinner at my favourite restaurant on Saturday afternoon. Son arranged it with his siblings. Nice surprise! We know from experience food is overpriced and service is often poor on Mothering Sunday. On Saturday the grandchildren will be able to join us too and it will be a treat for all the mothers. I am looking forward to it.
We spent yesterday 'shopping for Mummy' with youngest granddaughter after school and then had a wrapping and writing labels session at her house before parents came home. All presents have been hidden. Her excitement and sense of achievement reminded me of my little ones at the same age when they prepared a surprise for an adult.
Baggs. Good luck on Tuesday! I've had two. It's ok! They are really kind to you and it isn't uncomfortable as you might imagine. Do hope the results all go well!
I have mentioned to my DCs that as my house is still a builders' yard there is no need for flowers! My garden is looking so colourful it gives me joy.
With many of you, I have no older generation alive.
My children have been sending delightful emails and photos, there have been DGC's birthdays, but they live a long way away.
I won't do anything different. It is still "Mothering Sunday" to me. I will say a prayer. I celebrate The Sabbath on the Seventh Day and try to keep it Holy, but still join in with the majority in Sunday Worship too!
You could have a party, Baggs. Custard, ice cream and jelly allowed. ? ?
That is, I'll be eating stodge on Sunday in preparation for....
One likes to be clear ?
I only gathered it was Mothering Sunday this weekend when my boss mentioned it yesterday.
Me, I'll be preparing for a colonoscopy (eating stodge in layman's terms) on Tuesday.
You did ask ?
I am going to my eldest daughter's for lunch on Mothering Sunday. My youngest daughter and her partner will be there plus 'babybump' as I call my first granchild......due at the end of May.
My son and his fiance are going to see Sunderland in the Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday which is fine because he has promised me a celebration some other time. So all in all I feel a very lucky Mum!!
My 3 DDs have invited me to lunch. The 2 DGS will be there too, so will be with their Mums. DH will be taking his Mum out for lunch and one Son in Law will be visiting his Mum. Probably will be cards and flowers for me but it is the time the time they spend with me that is the most precious thing.
I am working this weekend so DD and GD have been over today with pressies and cards. DS gave me pressies early. Other DS and GS I will see next week.
I spent the weekend with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and she gave me my Mother's Day card and a pressy of Pandora charm for my bracelet which I shall open on Sunday. We don't see each other that often so it was nice to spend all weekend together. I will get a card of my son tomorrow, no pressy but then we don't normally anyway so that's not a problem, and they will both ring me on the day and it will be lovely to have a chat with them both.
I will be going to the beach with DD1, SIL and my 2 DGC where we will make sandcastles and then cook hot dogs in the campervan. DD2 in Spain will ring and probably donate to charity in my name instead of flowers. You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a good time
Another here feeling blessed this year, as I'll be seeing all my DC and DGS. Our SIL's mother is kindly hosting a bit of a do at their house for Mothering Sunday and our family March birthdays, all five of them. I'm in charge of the cheeseboard (very important!). I can count on cards and presents from two of my three on the day, perhaps even a hat trick....the one that usually misses the actual date really hasn't an excuse this year!
My daughter and I deliberately don't go out to lunch or buy flowers for Mother's Day as we think that retailers take such liberties.
We will meet up for a coffee and she'll give me a card on Sunday, then on Monday my daughter, granddaughter, and little greatgrandsons will go out, probably for a meal at the Carvery.
Best of both worlds.
I'll be going to the Mothering Sunday service with DD1 and the younger DGS. Then they, SiL & the 8 year old who will have been at rugby training, will all come to me for a late lunch.
I had a lovely weekend at a spa last week with DD1 & DD3 so that was my present to them for being great Mums. I don't think DD2 knows its Mothering Sunday as she's in Oz.
For the first time in about 8 of 9 years I will actually have the pleasure of seeing all my children on Mothering Sunday. Will be at a Spa hotel overnight on Saturday with both my daughters for my older daughter's hen party, hopefully older daughter will be up in time to have breakfast with younger daughter and I before we leave to motor some 200 miles to watch my son play in a concert with his string quartet. I'm feeling very blessed this year.
Not Mothering Sunday in Portugal for them it's the first Sunday in May. As our children are in the UK my friend and I decided to go out for lunch to a nice restaurant on Sunday and the husbsnds will be coming too. I remember saying something about Mothering Sunday to my DH some years ago and his reply was "well you are not my mother". In his defence he isn't the father of my children.
I'll give a few moments thought to my Mum and MIL, both long gone now, and then I hope to have a normal quiet Sunday with DH. Two of our AC live too far to visit for just one day (at least I hope they won't make the journey), and the other one is just a few miles away. But I'd prefer if he spent the day with his partner and family. I'm quite happy with a phone call or a card. I hope to spend some of the day on a large craft project while I still feel well enough to do it - intermittent health issues.
