What are you doing on Mothers Day?

I've made Mothers Day cards for my Mum and my MiL and I'm making a cake to take. MiL and DM love home made things. I know MiL will be missing seeing her Grand daughters and great Grandchildren who she hasnt seen since November 2018. She cries about this a lot and we try to comfort her, but it's sad. I might tell her that my Gs has gone back to China, but it might make her too sad. At least she got to meet him once.
My Mum is too far away to visit, but I've posted her something nice. This Mother's day I am going to miss two of my (absent) sons and my Grandson who I suspect won't be in England, but I'm going to focus on trying to make it good for my MiL and being happy with what I do have. I think sometimes "happy" occaisions aren't always easy for a lot of people for various reasons. I appreciate my MiL because without her I wouldn't have my DH.

Harris27, I have sent you a PM.

My lot never do anything unless prompted so this year I'm hoping they have not been prompted and we'll see what happens. I don't know why as they are very loving. I'll be sad at not being able to place flowers on my own mother's grave again, but be grateful that i have lovely memories of her and of my own children - happy in the moment, as so much to be grateful for.

I'm doing nothing. I don't have a mum or MiL to send a card to any more. One son lives overseas with both my DGC, I miht get a FaceTime if I'm lucky, but I imagine they'll have a busy day as they live near DiL's parents and family. Other DS is studying relatively nearby, but not near enough to pop over on the off-chance I'll be here - so I don't expect anything from him either!

My mum died 10 years ago and my MiL 3 years ago, but this is the first year I've missed having someone to treat on Mother's Day.

This year I’ll be blessed to be with my daughter and grandchild. I’ll go to church and light a candle and thank all my grandmothers. I’ll be ignored by my son who has removed himself from our lives.

SalsaQueen Sat 30-Mar-19 12:44:31

My own mum died in 1995, and my mum-in-law in 2014, but I'll have visits tomorrow from my sons and the girlfriend of one (the 2nd son is single), and they're staying for a roast dinner (my husband is cooking), pudding and drinks. I'll drive them all back even though they live locally.

Sadly my dear mum and mum-in-law are long gone, but I will be thinking of my mum tomorrow. We are having a dual celebration lunch out tomorrow with my daughter and son-in-law. It is her birthday on Tuesday, so we're doing both, as she can't have the day off work. In June she will be having a baby boy, so next year will be a mum herself. I count my blessings and certainly don't take anything for granted. Like many on here, life hasn't always been plain sailing, but my beautiful girl has kept me going.

Gonegirl Sat 30-Mar-19 10:43:20

Wow! That's fantastic.

Yes. spoilsport indeed! Sigh! grin (They have no idea do they? hmm)

merlotgran Sat 30-Mar-19 09:50:44

Thank you, Gonegirl

DSil's ship is on Mary Berry's programme next week. He took a photo of her going aboard for filming so I know he was there! He told me whenever he caught sight of a camera he ducked out of sight (spoilsport) but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled anyway.

Happy Mother's Day to all.

It will be very exciting. In the morning we have a man coming to discuss extending our patio, then I am cooking lunch in the afternoon for DD and her menfolk. My son called in on Friday on his way down to London to bring a card and flowers, and seeing him and his wife was as good a Mother’s Day present as I could have asked.
Harris I feel so sorry for you losing your mum?.

Gonegirl Sat 30-Mar-19 09:09:15

merlot congratulations, and have a lovely day today. Love the "keeping an eye on the Russians"! grin

God bless for tomorrow.

merlotgran Sat 30-Mar-19 09:05:14

We're doing Mother's Day today, combining it with out 51st wedding anniversary because DD2, who arrived last night, will want to be at home tomorrow as her DH is somewhere afloat keeping an eye on the Russians. grin and her DDs want to take her out for afternoon tea.

DS is moving house today so he'll have to be with us in spirit!

It's going to be a tough one for DD1 so doing it a day early (we're going to a Turkish restaurant for lunch) will hopefully reduce the stress for all.

Tomorrow I'll do a roast then she can join us if she feels like it but I have to say I'll be glad when it's over.

I'm having two close cousins for lunch. One is divorced, and whose DS's won't be around, and the other is widowed and she also lost her DS ( only AC ) two years ago. Tomorrow will be the Golden Wedding anniversary of the widowed one ( I was her bridesmaid ), and it is also my birthday. This will allow DD's to be ' spoiled' at home by their own families. Going to the cinema this evening with younger DD instead. Elder DD lives 150 miles away.

Happy Birthday Chucky for Sunday and here are some flowers for you smile

Chucky Sat 30-Mar-19 06:59:06

Sunday is also my birthday, but doubt I will be doing very much. The “old firm” game is on so husband will be glued to tv and son will be out at pub watching it. Younger daughter is in middle of night shifts. Oldest daughter, who is the one who normally organises things, has just had a baby and it is her mil’s birthday on Sunday too, but a special birthday, so they will be eating out with her. I can’t complain as it is normally her who misses out! I do sound an old misery guts! Reading other posts on here shows how lucky I am to have my family. ? to all those mums.
Think I would drop if husband even got me a card, never mind a present, as he is still in mode of when we couldn’t afford presents for each other!
So, I guess Sunday will be like any other day for me!

annodomini Fri 29-Mar-19 23:44:30

Nothing at all. Family too far off and as I'm going for Easter, if wasn't worthwhile going south for the weekend. Flowers and gift have, however, already arrived smile

callgirl1 Fri 29-Mar-19 23:39:32

No mother or MIL anymore, my 2 youngest daughters are taking me and daughter 2`s MIL out to a local hotel for afternoon tea.

Marydoll Fri 29-Mar-19 23:13:50

Maw, I have just seen your post, what a wonderful idea.
That's the kind of Mothering Sunday gift I would appreciate.

arosebyanyothername Fri 29-Mar-19 22:15:29

DS is visiting Sunday late morning with our 2 grandchildren and a promised brunch?
DD has asked that I keep a day free next week so I wait to see what will happen.
Mum & MIL passed away some years ago. They always came to us for the day along with MIL’s sister who didn’t have children of her own. Great memories ❤️

Mrsdof Fri 29-Mar-19 20:38:30

Taking my DM (100yrs old) out for afternoon tea next week. My sister is taking her out for lunch on Sunday. DS1 is taking my DH and I out for a Mexican meal on Sunday, DS2 lives in Melbourne and will probably send card/flowers and DS3 has got us a ticket on Saturday for the Legends game at the new Spurs Stadium Test Event and I am just sooo excited. Love footie and Spurs. Being thoroughly spoilt all round. grin

icanhandthemback Fri 29-Mar-19 19:40:57

This is the first year I haven't stood by a hockey pitch shouting encouragement to my son and his team with my mother griping in my ear about how I'm not doing anything with her even though I always make up for it. I was thrilled to think of a Mothering Sunday around a roast table with my son before he heads off to Uni. The reality? He flew out to see his girlfriend and won't be back until Monday! hmm
He took me out last night and gave me his card so he is forgiven. All our other children are busy being spoiled by their children (which is as it should be) and I am going to give my Mum the chance to moan at me throughout dinner and a trip to the cinema instead. That'll make her day! grin

Baggs Fri 29-Mar-19 19:38:29

Thank you for the good wishes, tillybelle ?

Baggs Fri 29-Mar-19 19:37:19

Wish Gransnet had a like button, ffinn! ?

nannyof4 Fri 29-Mar-19 19:37:19

Nothing planned here for Sunday.
My son will be popping in tomorow with my 2 Grandaughters, and my mum died 3 months before my oldest Grandaughter was born (13yrs) ago,and every year i buy a bunch of flowers for her on mothering Sunday and her birthday too which is August.
I have 2 cards from Son and Daughter who live away.

olliebeak Fri 29-Mar-19 19:17:00

On Sunday I'll be going to church, as usual, which will be followed by visits from my eldest son and my daughter with their partners and children. Younger son and his wife have recently split up, but I've spent time with both of them and their children today.

Tomorrow, I'm going for Afternoon Tea with my eldest granddaughter and her mum (my daughter) - she's away at Uni most of the time, so it'll be lovely for the three of us to spend some time together.
