Gosh this couple must be 80y, give or take. I agree, after a lifetime together it does seem strange.

Not for you to understand

You never know what goes on behind the front door. A marriage that appears happy to everyone else can hide misery and abuse.

Also, as some people get older their tolerance levels can diminish - meaning they take decisions they may have not dared to do earlier on.

The ending of any marriage is sad, but can also be for the best.

My Mum was always very pragmatic about marriage problems....which was a bit daft as hers to my father was pretty grim....any road up she did used to say that no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors and only those within a marriage have any idea about it. Mind you I'm still of the opinion that even those within a marriage do not fully know what's going on.....we might know ourselves but do we ever really know the other person? Recent events in our family have proved to me that I do not know even those closest too me as well as I thought I did.

I’ve just discovered that the couple on the other side of the road have separated after 58 years of marriage. After weathering the trials and tribulations, the joys and sorrows of a very long marriage, 3 children and numerous grandchildren/ggc why live apart at this age/stage? There can’t be many situations left that they haven’t already gone through together. It’s very sad but there’s nowt as strange as folk.
