Was told by council in January the bungalows had to have new windows and doors, I said ‘ mine are fine’, was told ‘you have to have them , new rules by Welsh Assembly.

Work started last week on the 8 bungalows opposite me, I am realy stressed about having it done. Was told yesterday four tenants across the road have refused so they are not having the work done, 4 bungalows with new windows 4 with old windows,

Garden fence falling over, tenants agreement- tenants responsible for garden and fencing . I have had trouble finding someone to put up the new fence , plus working out flipping metres . Had saved to have a base built for Fred’s garage , that money now goes for the fence and Fred comes back in hall.

Was told yesterday, this row of 6 bungalows use to have open back area with a fence at end of my bungalow and the 6th bungalow. So my big fence isn’t mine but the councils.

Have bought the new fencing , being fitted tomorrow.

My dogs have to go to kennels when windows are fitted .

Have a garage for Fred which I can’t use and fencing for a fence which isn’t my responsibility.

Fed up, cheesed off, hate social housing

Thank you x

Your post brought back lots of memories gulliver. I was an RAF wife and we too had new windows installed during the winter months-twice!. I particularly remember marching out of one quarter having spent ages cleaning the cooker to the exacting standards required and when DH did the march out( wives not allowed) he was told the cooker would be removed that day and a new one installed- grrr..We also had a shower put in once which was quite unusual in quarters but after all the mess of having it done were told we couldn’t use it as the water pressure wasn’t good enough- happy days!?

Can identify with this. Used to be an army 'wife of'. Had whole quarter double-glazed in depths of winter (?cheaper contract then) Some army wives in Aldershot did get together and achieve a rent reduction during the work. At another quarter oil boiler was fitted (improvement on the hassle of solid fuel) with thermostat immediately above it so crazy settings needed. They were still fitting them above the boiler one end of the patch while another contractor was following round moving them. Same house a bit later asked to choose new lino (to replace post war stuff) It was beautiful quality and I religiously polished it as instructed. A year later all replaced by fitted carpets. I could go on!

anniebach sending you flowers because you sound very stressed. My anxiety would go up to eleven out of 10 if I had to have workers in my home unwillingly. I think cornergran suggestion to try to contact the same lady who was helpful to you previously is a good idea

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 20:54:59

cornergran thank you . I may do as you suggest, x

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 20:50:45

sharon not a good suggestion, ‘ would you mind helping me to get into the attic, the door is in the bedroom above the bed ‘ grin

cornergran Tue 26-Mar-19 19:54:53

annie my apologies if I missed this and it’s already been mentioned. Would it be worth speaking with your helpful contact in repairs about your concerns over the windows? If you explain that in view of your agoraphobia you can’t be outside and your health does not allow you to take down curtains and replace them common sense may prevail. I’m sorry you’ve had the hassle but be proud of yourself for getting the fence sorted, you’re a strong person and I know you will cope even though you shouldn’t have to. flowers.

sharon103 Tue 26-Mar-19 19:11:57

grin Annie. Could the window fitters give you a leg-up into the attic. They could pass a cup of tea up to you through the hatch.

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 19:01:25

sharon window being fitted in there too, suppose I could sit in the shower ?

sharon103 Tue 26-Mar-19 18:57:56

You could always sit on the toilet with a good book Annie grin

MamaCaz Tue 26-Mar-19 18:54:19

I am with Annie on this - she is happy with the existing windows, and as the saying goes: if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

And speaking from my own recent experience, I can say that there is no guarantee that the new windows would be any improvement whatsoever on the old ones.
Ours certainly aren't - the quality is poor and so was the fitting!

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 18:52:08

I don’t want this to be a ‘meme thread ‘ , such kind support about the windows.

Fred is my mobility scooter ?, I have developed a phobia which I am trying to be free of, I have agoraphobia and have become afraid of people , I am having therapy and am to keep anxiety down ! Proving rather difficult watching the workmen across the road and therapist is away for two weeks, I will cope.

Yes megan same for me , kitchen so small no room for table and chair .

Phoebes Tue 26-Mar-19 18:38:16

And I still don’t know who/what Fred is! So sorry you have been messed about so much. Could you go out for the day when the work is done? The Council might be able to help you with taking down the curtains and blinds if you aren’t able to and putting them back up. I do sympathise, but it will be great when it’s all finished.

annodomini Tue 26-Mar-19 18:25:16

There's no cause for anxiety, Annie. I've had windows fitted twice and the work was done all in a day, without mess or unnecessary noise. It's really not a very big job. You may well find that your home is warmer with more modern windows.

megan123 Tue 26-Mar-19 18:19:10

Annie I understand perfectly about the windows. I hate having workmen in the house and, like you, I have one room, and a kitchen, so if anything is being done in the front room I have to go into a small kitchen with nowhere to sit. I get very anxious about anything like that flowers xx

MamaCaz Tue 26-Mar-19 18:15:56

Being forced to have messy, noisy, disruptive and un-necessary work done is something most people would be unhappy about, regardless of who is footing the bill.

Lily65 Tue 26-Mar-19 18:09:13

Could a friend or somebody from Church help you with curtains?

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 17:59:05

Wish I hadn’t mentioned the windows blush .

Pat1949 Tue 26-Mar-19 17:22:46

Goodness me, Anniebach, don't get yourself upset by having to have new windows. I'm sure many of us who own our house would love to have new windows fitted but can't afford them. It'll be lovely when they're done. Lie back, relax and have them fitted.

dragonfly46 Tue 26-Mar-19 17:17:31

Don't be sorry for moaning annie I have done my fair share the last couple of days.
You are within your rights to refuse to have the upheaval. The least they could do is take down and replace curtains and blinds.

So pleased you got the fence sorted out and Fred will have his own home!

Anniebach Tue 26-Mar-19 15:35:49

Just received phone call from the company who will put up the new fence , 23rd April booked. The lovely girl from repairs dept certaintly got things moving ,

Will ask about the windows tomorrow, this is a small one bedroomed bungalow, watched them last week working across the Cul de sac, bedroom window and living room window at front, two men on each window I would have to sit in the room as they worked , no room I can escape to and I have to pay someone to take down curtains and blinds them put them up again . Already have double glazed windows,

Gosh I have moaned, sorry

Nandalot Tue 26-Mar-19 15:23:55

Very pleased you sorted out the fence. Hope you can get the result you want with the windows.p

Bathsheba Tue 26-Mar-19 14:53:47

Oh Annie what a horrible stressful time for you. I don't understand why you've been told 'you have to have the windows done', when four bungalows opposite you have refused and aren't having them done. Can you not also 'refuse' like them?

I agree with GinJeannie - speak to your local councillor. You never know, they may be able to help you - that's what they're there for, and why people like you voted them in (and could vote them out again just as easily!)

GinJeannie Tue 26-Mar-19 14:41:01

What a dreadful mess and so much stress totally undeserved. Get in touch with your local Councillor. ....elections may be pending so he/she will want to help@

I have had a falling out with a friend who refused to understand that when you live in Social Housing it isn't really yours....you have to follow orders.
Friend lives in her own large detached house bought with a trust fund.
She would not listen and in the end I had to say but You don't know do you?
I am disabled and the HA refused to let me have my shed where `i can walk to. I paid for the shed and the labour to put it up but I can't get to my wheelchair. I have to have someone else get it for me.
I feel like a second class citizen.
Friend thinks I should be grateful, which I am, I am grateful to have a home but then I didn't inherit a Trust Fund !!!
