Gillybob there is a chocolate bar in Germany called Ovomaltine which might be what you mentioned. Has crunchy malty bits in it and is very nice.

Yes I remember Spangles, Fruit Gums, Fruit Pastilles mostly as they cost 3d (old money). That's usually what my dad gave us and those were the ones that usually lasted longest. My brother was more adventurous and would buy a 3d bar of Cadbury's chocolate or 2 oz of Dolly Mixtures.

Sometimes I'd get 1d licorice sweets, a stick or a swirl with that licorice-all-sort in the middle, which I still love or a sherbert dib dab or 2 oz of aniseed balls. Then there was that chewy piece of wood that tasted of licorice that we called Spanish. That lasted ages.

Probably why I have fillings Bathsheba - Palm toffee bars (not the banana ones though), Sharps Kremy toffee etc

Palm toffee bars, a lovely tasty slab of toffee which came in different flavours. My favourite was the banana flavour - you could see the yellow layer sandwiched in the middle of the toffee. And Sharps Kremy Toffee, another favourite!

God, it's a wonder we managed to keep any teeth at all really!

There is an old sweet shop in Belfast still does the aniseed ,rubarb & custard .loads of everything you can rem.

Penny dainties,
Halfpenny caramels.
Four a penny chews.
Bonbons.

I remember liking a toffee sweet that was square and had solid icing all over, except it's bottom.
They were pink or white. Sold by the quarter.

Who remembers Tiffin? I loved the mixture of little biscuit bits and raisins. Also Fry's five boys choc bar....I still remember the wrapper with five boy's heads on it.

Does anyone remember a packet pudding from 1960s -70s that divided when setting into jelly at the bottom and a mousse at the top. What was it called and how can you make it!?

I loved Horlicks tablets.

Nowadays they will say that 'there is no demand' for these sweets.

My paternal grandma used to buy Horlicks tablets for my older cousin who was diabetic (not sure if she should’ve had them) but I was soooo jealous .
Ovaltine chocolate was deeeelissh Gonegirl I suppose it’s a good job its not still around or I would be a Tellytubby .
