A local nursery has taken away all the toys the children used to play with - and replaced them with boxes, tins and everyday objects. The children love it. They are using their imagination, going outdoors and making friends. (One child made a pretend meal for a reporter using a piece of wood, a saucepan and a slotted spoon - which the reporter obviously pretended to eat!)
This is a experiment for one month but a lot of the children are saying they don't want the toys back. As one father said a plastic dinosaur is just a dinosaur but a box and a blanket can be a tent, a space ship, a car or anything else the child wants.
