Well done and how lovely!!

We are still looking for our old home movies to digitise . I've been searching the house but they haven't turned up. We stopped filming a long time ago when our camera stopped working and since the projector broke we haven't seen them.

Oh that’s such a shame. Hope they do turn up, I’m sure it’s not something that you would purposely dispose of. They are probably hiding in your attic space in a corner. Treasured memories.

One DS put our children's old Super-8 movies onto a DVD for us as an anniversary present. It was so emotional watching it, and I was surprised at my reaction, it felt like a bereavement, for the children I was watching were lost in the past. I am very proud of the adults they have become, but I loved those super, affectionate little people!

Is it just me, anyone else feel like that?

I took a few photos and films of my children as they were growing up, but I know that every single stage of development of my DGC has been recorded because their parents have mobile phones.

I'd love to convert the few cassettes of film I have on to DVD. I am very sentimental and the past and people and events in it are worth storing. Since our house move I haven't been able to find the old cassettes. Last time I viewed them, many years ago, I realised my then teenaged children had recorded over the precious memories. I was so upset.

Muddled jerky film of pals falling off their skateboards took the place of my daughter's 7th birthday party, a visit to Eden Camp and a park picnic in which my dear old Mum, then more mobile, pushed the pram of her new born GC. I was heart-broken.

Enjoy the lovely memories. I am sure there might have been a few damp eyes as you remembered past times?

That is such a shame Day6 no wonder you were upset.

I did this some years ago and had cause to look though my parents Golden Wedding party the other day which was in 1998 and then their Diamond one in 2008. Two cousins lost their spouses last year and I was sure they were on the films but sadly not. It was lovely to see all everyone but sad that some are no longer with us. We also have our Silver Wedding party as well as lots of our GD's when they were younger.

Day6, I do feel for you. I can understand your feelings. Hopefully you can hold onto some memories in your mind. Yes when I saw/heard my mum whom I was very close to, I just wish she was here. I can just hear what she would say about it all. Today’s generation are so lucky they snap away so easily and frequently with their mobiles, it seems to come so easy to them.

Not video but photographs. About 15 years ago I was moving house and came upon the boxes of photographs.

There was one of my ds aged about 3. He was wearing an aran jumper that I had knitted and his corduroy trousers were well tucked into his socks as he climbed a pile of hardcore stones left in the corner of a picnic area, presumeably by the Roads Service. The pile was quite sizeable and he got completely covered in dust and grit but what a wonderful time he had.

How I wept. I couldn't stop. Ds would have been about 25 at the time and my heart longed just once more to cuddle the wee 3 year old boy.

What lovely memories eh? I have also transferred some old Super8 movies onto DVDs and often watch them. I have 3 children and think I should get copies for each of them. Maybe one day when they have retired and have plenty of time on their hands they can sit back and enjoy them.
Gosh, I'd better get my skates on and sort that out.

I know exactly what you mean CrazyH. It was a job my DH said that once he retired he would go through all the videos and digitalise. He’s now been retired coming up for 2 years and has only started this long process BUT I think to leave them to our DD and her family would just be lovely. Due to unfortunate circumstances I have around 6 photographs of my own childhood which upsets me greatly so I think that’s why I’m so passionate about doing this for DD.

we had my sons christening in 1988 videod and got it transferred to disc a couple of years ago.There was a lot of tears ,both my parents one of my sisters .my OH's dad three friends and one employee all gone .It was great to see all the little ones playing in the garden and my mother racing to get on the slide before them and my OH at his most gorgeous..though he's still looking great .

Thank you for such a happy sharing. I can imagine the joy of remembering and it made me feel very cheerful for you.

My family don't have anything like that, no photos were taken, even on my wedding day but we do have a few Instamatic pics I look of my boys as they were growing up.

Bradfordlass72, I am so sorry you don’t have any pics to look back on, I know how you must feel but I thank you for being so kind about this post. I hope it has allowed you to retrieve in your head happy memories of the past.

A few years ago I had our standard 8 and super 8 cine films from 1970 up until around 1985 put onto DVDs, it was lovely to see them again. Not so lovely seeing my slim younger self then looking in the mirror and seeing my fat, old self, lol! I now need to get all our family videos from the early 90s until about 10 years ago put onto DVD, as we can`t view them anymore without a video player.

callgirl1 I know that feeling well and when others look at the young woman with dark brown hair and say "is that really you!"
Although we have lost mislaid all the old films, I can still remember them. Most were pretty bad, wobblyscope . There are none of our youngest because the camera broke before she was born.

I have a large box of cine film reels in the cupboard under the stairs, dating back to when we met in 1969. DH was always going to transfer them to video, but sadly never got round to it, and I don't think I've got the knowledge or patience to edit and transfer them. So there they will stay until I'm gone and then DS and DD can decide what to do with them.

I have lots of photos. When I eft the house when I was divorcing I took the box of all the photos with me. For my 60th birthday my best friend found some footage of my dead son and transferred it onto a CD for me to see. I can’t describe how bitter sweet it was to see him. I also have a recording of his voice I accidentally found soon after he died ( he was nearly 5) Enjoy your lovely memories but rejoice the children you are talking about are still alive

We put our old cine onto DVD and I used to enjoy a little look from time to time but as I have got older I find them more and more difficult to watch with so many family and dear friends gone. Having said that they are a wonderful record of our life 40/50 years ago and the GC enjoy seeing their GGPs and us I wouldn't be without them.
