Why? (No Brexit questions allowed, please!)

I'm familiar with lots on here. The same thing happens ecci53 when you put a duvet cover in the tumble drier, Everything else manages to find it's way inside. Why do I keep the odd socks for months on end when the other's disappear never to be found again. I can be downstairs for hours and as soon as I go upstairs the phone rings. Why do I have surprise visitors when the house is a mess and so am I. Why does someone knock the door as soon as you're half way through doing what you do sitting on the toilet. Why do cats spew up on the carpet hall runner or front/back door mat when the floors are all laminate where it's easier to clean up.

The thief proof packaging is also a deterrent for those who would add poisonous or other harmful stuff to foods.

Why do all the tubes on pump action bottles not reach the bottom. Have had a bottle of cleaner upside down for a couple of weeks trying to get the last 1" out but it's messy as have to take the top off and tube out to bang the flippin bottle to get the stuff out. Suntan lotion, foundation, everything in that kind of dispenser is the same.

I've never ever seen anyone in a shop, open a packet or drink out of a container and put it back, has anyone else, there are usually customers in every aisle when I shop. Do these people go late at night or early in the morning.

LuckyFour I order almost everything from Amazon because I have health problems. Annie can answer for herself but I suspect, as she's been through an awful lot, that she is in a similar predicament.

Most of these problems are solvable. Paper bags are supplied for you to put the cakes etc. you buy in German supermarkets. The bags have a clear cellophane panel, so the girl at the cash-desk can see what you have bought.

Closing the duvet cover makes it harder for the rest of the washing to get in. And if you only buy one colour and style of sock it doesn't really matter if one of them gets lost, but where do they go to? Since I started counting the numbers of pairs that go into the washing-machine the same number comes out! Can you beat it?

The only insolvable problem is the jars, toothpaste tubes, containers etc. that always contain a quantity that you cannot get out. The makers don't want you to get it out, as they sell more of it, if you don't use it all up. Standing containers upside down does help you, not the makers.

I don't buy peanut butter as I can't stand the stuff, but the 'shoulder' design jars are used on so many products - pickles, pesto sauce, cook-in sauces, and so on, so yes, I get frustrated with this ridiculous design too. And it's not just the shoulder at the top, but there is often a kind of sticky-out bit all round the bottom too, which you can't get to with a spoon or a knife, grrrr.

Why are jars of instant hot chocolate usually at least 2" taller than the average teaspoon, so that it's almost impossible to get to the bottom of the jar?

And why are the necks of herb and spice jars too small for a teaspoon? I have measuring spoons too, but they are also way too big for the jars.

Finger comes in very handy fir the last bit of peanut butter, jam, marmalade. Yum.

Why has the perfectly good question I thought of for this thread while I was out now completely vanished from what is left of my brain?

ecci53, I do as Janiepops does and pop up my duvet covers before washing, and I also make sure that they are inside out, as I find that the easiest way to put them back on, and also the odd socks which have still managed to hide in there are foiled (heh heh!) and have to reappear.

Hi breeze, no it doesn’t come from the soft water supply, that is just for the bathroom and washing machine. We got a water softener years ago when one of our dd was diagnosed with eczema to take the limescale out of the water. Wouldn’t be without it now. I digress! The water coming into the kitchen sink is not softened, so this small filter fits neatly in the cupboard underneath. Hope this helps.

Why is it that after hoarding something for 20:years I find a use for it the day after I give to the charity shop?

Re bananas in plsstic. I will always look for Caribbean bananas as I live there part of the year and they need our support. Without wrapping i would not know.

On the Amazon note, why do they put something small in a large box tp post.?

Why don't my DD and DGC understand what 'fetch me your washing down each day please' actually means? I am fed up of getting four loads of washing on a Sunday afternoon that need to be done for the following week (or even Monday for school - PE kit etc). I am not asking them to do the washing! It's not rocket science surely?

Why does the shampoo/conditioner bottle run out just as you have got your hair wet. Trying to squeeze the last drops out with wet hands is a nightmares! ?

Why, for loose fruit and veg, aren't paper bags supplied to shoppers instead of plastic bags?
Because then the cashier, or self-serve supervisor, can't see what's in them.
The bags could be biodegradable, tho, and still be see through.

Drinking the softened water doesn't do you any harm, but they always fit a drinking water tap (non softened) as an extra at the kitchen sink because hard water is better for your heart.

Urmstongran I do the same with my coffee and my daughter does it with her soft drink. Obviously no tea leaves there.

And why do we have to buy small bottles of liquid hand soap, and throw away yet another one time use dispenser-what about a refill system?
Have you seen the vast number of different types of hand soap in supermarkets?
1 or 2 refill options would be good, tho.

Ooh thanks Bazza I didn't know you can't drink water softener water anyway. So I imagine anyone with those has to buy bottled unless they have your gadget. Does it collect the water before it goes through the softener but filters it? Just about to have a kitchen refit so it would be a good time to look into it.

Why do parents not realise how unhygienic it is to allow children to stand in shopping trolleys wearing shoes that have walked through all the filth of the streets? And why do supermarkets not address this?

Why is it whenever I go to the the haircutter's I always come out with a fringe, when I didn't go in with one? I never wear my hair in a fringe. Do they not actually look at the me that sits down in the chair?

Why do supermarkets still use black plastic trays when they know they can’t be recycled? Waitrose have started using clear plastic though, so come on the rest of you. How hard can it be?

Breeze, I also live in a hard water area, I have a water softener, but you can’t drink soft water, so I brought an under sink filter kit wwwfinest-filters from amazon for £17. Easy to fit, cartridges last six months and are cheap. Highly recommended. No more scum in tea mug.
