Well as first for me. Opening a new kitchen full of light, love and support

Feelingmyage55 Thu 21-Mar-19 19:55:09

Ooh gagagran scones with jam and cream, I shouldn’t but I will - just have a seat and a break from the world. Am I the only person who cannot bear to watch the news and hear sad stories and aggravated politicians?
Well done soop. The drains are so irritating and the sooner gone the better.
Sorry for the little ones with asthma. It is frightening for the sufferer and the carer and spring heralds the pollen season too.
Off to scoff my scone then I better go back and face the real world. Kind wishes to all.

Charleygirl5 Thu 21-Mar-19 19:58:16

I switch off the news nowadays if I see a politician or hear the B word. I personally have had enough.

Doodle Thu 21-Mar-19 20:02:23

My goodness what a busy kitchen. Lots to catch up on. Welcome to all the newbies and welcome back to the returners.
soop continue resting and don’t overdo things. Hope your full results come through ok soon. Please take care at the funeral on Friday and get lots of sitting down time.
susan what a dreadful shock about your DH. Do hope he’s ok.
Well greyduster I’m glad your DH managed to catch a big fish and got you out safely. ? I fell off a boat once (only into shallow water) boy did I feel an idiot, and like you got very cold very quickly and had a soggy journey home.
kitty poor Bertie again. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. Glad stepdad is proving to be caring and supportive.
Hello marydoll thanks for the hot cross buns...what’s in them ? (you didn’t make them at the Argy did you? ?)
Hello panache hope you and MrP are ok. Wish the hospital would be more help to you.
ann hope you are getting on ok. We are all thinking of you.

Susan56 Thu 21-Mar-19 21:08:38

Thank you again for all your kind messages. My husband has slept most of the day and is in a better frame of mind now.He is most upset about not going back to work, the dr has estimated three months recovery time and as DH is retiring in nine weeks he won’t be going back. His first ever period of sickness.
Soop,I will be thinking of you tomorrow?
Kitty,I totally agree with you re step fathers. My husband has been step father to my two girls for many years and has been amazing. As far as they are concerned he is dad.
Am off to bed now as I think the events of the day are catching up with me.

cornergran Thu 21-Mar-19 21:27:58

Pleased your husband is comfortable susan, a day you won’t want to repeat. Sleep well.

I can hear Step dad stereotypes breaking into a million pieces kitty. Positives are always welcome. Delighted Bertie escaped hospital. Not long until the weekend.

Pleased to report the food was apparently a success today. Phew. Early night is calling.

Take care everyone. I’ll be thinking of you and macs tomorrow soop.

annodomini Thu 21-Mar-19 21:43:33

soop, it's good that your 'drainage' is drying up though it's frustrating for you that the path lab hasn't come up with your test results yet.
kitty, thank you for asking about my sister. As her speech is now unintelligible, we message each other daily. She has to be fed through a tube with a pump that works overnight. Despite all this, she is still driving and has been out to meetings of her book club and U3A. An app on her i-pad allows her to communicate. In spite of the recent massacre in Christchurch she manages to keep her spirits up and I am so sad that I can't be there with her.
Grey, open-water swimming isn't a good idea until the weather gets really warm. Take care!
Susan, what a shock for you. I hope your DH's injuries will soon heal.
The eyebrow I gashed in a fall three weeks ago has healed beautifully and the scar is, even now, hardly noticeable. The self-soluble stitches haven't quite vanished yet but merge nicely with the white hairs in my eyebrow!
Everyone, I have managed to lose two posts tonight so I am going to sign off before I lose this one. Good night all moon

MawBroon Thu 21-Mar-19 23:09:56

??

cornergran Thu 21-Mar-19 23:13:39

Beautiful boy maw. Mr Otis I presume?

callgirl1 Thu 21-Mar-19 23:16:08

Oh Maw, he`s lovely!

Doodle Thu 21-Mar-19 23:26:56

Awww. Little Otis is lovely. You must be so pleased maw ?

Swanny Fri 22-Mar-19 00:37:06

Maw he is beautiful, I want one! NO, did I really say that? shock shock

susan it must have been an awful shock to get that news of your husband's accident, I hope his recovery is swift and smooth.

greyduster I appreciate you may be wanting to forget your unexpected dunking in the icy waters but I can't help smiling at the image of you going a**e over t*t then having to travel home swathed in blankets. The things we do in pursuit of pleasure eh? grin

soop good news about the lack of leakage, hope it's more of the same when you get the full path report.

Stepfathers/mothers have an uphill struggle in dealing with the stereotypical image of being 'baddies' but I have yet to meet one who actually is. Maybe I'm blinkered or just lucky but I see second family partnerships as being stronger, as there is more than one person to consider for a future relationship.

It's been a worrying ol' week here with DGS having trouble at school with his (up to now) best friend. Both lots of parents called to a meeting with teachers but I've not had opportunity to privately discuss the outcome.

Thanks to you all for just being here.

kittylester Fri 22-Mar-19 07:04:44

Beautiful baby maw.

Thanks for the update on your sister anno. You must be so sad, both about her condition and not being there. She sounds a determined and feisty lady!

Can I ask, 'what are eyebrows?'

Glad everyone survived your food corner. - I'm sure it was all lovely.

Swanny, childhood fall outs are horrid.

I hope you are feeling brighter ann. Its understandable that you are feeling down but hopefully it's only a 'phase'. Keep talking to us.

I hope you and your DH had a good night.

callgirl, I hope your son is doing ok and that you have a really good weekend.

My post about stepfathers was prompted by Bertie's lovely step dad. And, I cant say it to him because he is the children's father to all intents and purposes.

1inamillion Fri 22-Mar-19 07:10:11

Maw what a beautiful baby.
Swanny sorry to hear about your GS's trouble at school. I hope things will be resolved quickly.
I am going to see the Consultant this morning, so an early start. An X-ray, then if all is well, a new cast and a boot. Hope the traffic will be kind and that we find a parking space, such unnecessary worries.
Didn't get to sleep until gone 2am, could sleep now though ?

Gagagran Fri 22-Mar-19 07:24:30

Good luck with the appointment 1inamillion and hopefully you will come out with your boot ready for anything! Football maybe? grin

The red tulip bulbs that I shoved in pots last October have come up trumps and look absolutely glorious. I think they are one of my favourite flowers. So glad I got round to planting them.

Marydoll Fri 22-Mar-19 07:51:06

Soop, I hope all goes well for the funeral today. flowers

Maw, what a bonnie wee baby! Otis looks so contented.

Swanny, I'm sorry to hear about your wee grandson. As a teacher, I often had to deal with situations like this. It's quite difficult when everyone is upset. In my experience, they will either make it up or move on and find a new best friend. I hope it is resolved soon.
My daughter fell out with her friend of fourteen years at high school, it affected everyone, especially me, as her friend's mum was my best friend. I did realise that there are two sides to every story. My DD wasn't entirely innocent.
However, despite all the angst my friend and I are still good friends twenty years later, although my daughter and her friend have never spoken since!

1inamillion, good luck at the hospital, today.

Grey, I hope you have dried out! My husband did the same on a golf course in Spain. Unlike you, he dried out within ten minutes. The steam was rising from his shirt, as it was 90 degrees plus. My son was mortified, as it was a very posh golf club. grin

For all those feeling low, lots of hugs.

Nannytopsy Fri 22-Mar-19 07:58:38

Maw what a beauty! I am guessing you are already besotted! ?
Your tulips are way ahead of mine Gaga - I still have daffodils that are not open yet.
Gardening, garage door painting and Tigers tonight. A busy day!

aggie Fri 22-Mar-19 08:14:44

Handsome wee babe Maw

Bellanonna Fri 22-Mar-19 08:27:48

Otis is just gorgeous!

mrshat Fri 22-Mar-19 08:48:23

Beautiful baby Maw. Congratulations to all flowers

Greyduster Fri 22-Mar-19 09:01:37

Hello the kitchen! I expect all Marydoll’s hot cross buns have gone, have they? Oh well! Coffee then!

Maw Otis is perfect! You must be very proud! We hope to see more of him as he grows.

Kitty lovely post. My DS is also a stepdad and has always gone the extra mile for the boys, who are now adults. I’m glad that Bertie and Persie have someone who obviously loves them to bits.

Swanny I too hope that your grandson and his friend manage to resolve their differences. It is hard to watch our youngsters go through these emotional traumas.

Gaga you sound as if you are feeling better after your dental work. My tulips aren’t out yet either, and some of them seem to have come up blind.

Hope your appointment goes well 1inamillion. Parking is an expensive nightmare at both our hospitals. You can do without that sort of angst before you even get in the door!

Susan welcome, and good to hear your DH is getting over his accident.

Corner I suspect you are a far better cook than you are letting on and I imagine that your guests were greatly looking forward to, and relished, your food. Glad you all had a good time!

Anno your sister sounds like an amazing lady in the way that she is dealing with an awful illness. It must be so difficult for you to be so far away from each other.?

I am all dried out. DH told GS yesterday that I fell into the reservoir (I knew he wouldn’t be able to resist it!) and he said “It must have been a very big fish to pull you in the water, Nanny. I should stick to catching little ones.”confused. He is coming to stay tonight as his parents are running a half marathon tomorrow and have a very early start.
Well, must get on. I will look in later. Apologies to all I have missed.

harrigran Fri 22-Mar-19 09:15:39

Otis is gorgeous ♥️
Thinking of all poorly people and those with buggerations.

Anneliese63 Fri 22-Mar-19 09:56:30

Maw what a beautiful boy! We’re a baby free family at the moment until the oldest GC have children of their own.

I’ve been asked to give a reference. I’ve given quite a few in the past but always for a colleague or a volunteer. This is someone who I worked with for several years but who became a close friend. We meet up regularly since I retired. My dilemma is whether to write this as a professional reference, or a personal/character reference. I’d very much appreciate the advice of more knowledgeable kitcheners!

Such a busy day for many of you, so I hope things go well.

Panache Fri 22-Mar-19 10:42:26

What a dreadful shock for both your husband and yourself Susan........really feeling for you but thankful it was not too serious, though obviously a 3 month period off work means he has quite some recovering to do.

You certainly know how to steal the limelight Maw........what an absolute darling young Otis is.
I can imagine you and the parents are proud as punch.

Thinking especially of you this morning Soop having to face the funeral after the sudden death of a good friend will be difficult, especially since you too have and are going through dramas of your own.
A good rest hopefully follows, as you know only too well,we in your kitchen are NOT going anywhere soon!

Good luck with all the parking and appointment etc at the Hospital today Lineamillion..........you can cheerfully say your day will be a long one!

Such sad news about your sister Annodomini.....one thing knowing what the illness is likely to bring, but another when your dear sister is in the midst of its suffering ...........and of course just nothing you can really offer to alleviate the situation.Hard times indeed . For the both of you....flowers
Good news about your own scar limitation.

Great news hearing you have had those stitches removed from your gum GaGa............very unpleasant for sure.

Young Bertie is certainly a real trooper Kitty but of course, sadly, he is getting used to these Hospital interv entions........... which seem so much part of his life.
Good news having your backing for his step dad too,it helps to know one is doing a good job as I suppose it is not always the greatest job in the world........depending on many circumstances.

I hope you did manage to read my reply to your very considerate posting about how MCCarthy & Stone have now expanded the way they sell their properties Doodle...........sadly though you well remembered our situation.......we have only the one such company within our hospital catchment area (which is now a big must for us,poor though the Service has been for my man)......therefore we cannot count them in, although yes I certainly would favour them given an opportunity.
Such a minefield and ongoing saga!
I think I should perhaps write a book about all the downturns, of which there are far too many!!!

Pleased to hear your catering services went down well Corner so there were no poisoned cases after all!!! I knew you would win out.......... see I have more faith in you than you have in yourself!!!!

I suppose I have again overstepped the mark, but with so many members, and I still have only mentioned a few,it does take both a lot of reading and writing.
Wishing you all the very best for the forthcoming weekend, smiles and hope shining through for all.

soop Fri 22-Mar-19 13:50:32

Have just returned for our friend's funeral. She died from Necrotizing fasciitis. Drove herself to the GP. Put on a drip. Ambulanced to Oban. Transferred to Glasgow, lapsed into a coma and died several hours later. What a woman. Such a dear friend.

I now need to go to GP to have the ostomy bag removed. We then go into Campbeltown to buy and send birthday cards. Also do a wee shop.

When we return, I shall take a proper look around our kitchen and read all your messages. smile

grannyqueenie Fri 22-Mar-19 13:52:51

Why do i never learn my lesson and come in more often? It’s the only way to have a hope of ever catching up with all the comings and goings in this busy kitchen. Hey ho, some people just never learn!

Little Otis is truly squeezable maw, you’ve set off some serious baby envy now. I want one too, but only in the same theoretical sort of way that you do swanny! Sorry your grandson is having friend problems, it’s so hard for them to navigate that sort of stuff.. Hope it gets sorted out without too much angst all round. There’s been a big falling out between our 12 year old gs and his buddy too, they’ve been good pals since they were tots and as a result the 2 families have become friendly. It’s all rather awkward as the other mum involved isn’t able to see that her lad might have done anything unkind. It seems that the “friend” has begun hanging out with some older boys at secondary school and has been ignoring our gs at aschool but also bad mouthing him to others boys in his class. Dd is upset about the falling out, its been awkward in some social situations. However she is relieved that our gs is showing no interest in these older boys who she hears are not likely to be a good influence. Hard as it sometimes is just being the granny who sits helplessly on the sidelines watching various worries play out, there’s a huge bit of me that’s very relieved I’m not the mummy in these tricky child rearing times!

Glad to hear that you’re mending soop, I do hope your recovery carries on - aided of course by doing as little as possible.... hmm that’s the bit I’m not so sure about. But then again I know that the lovely Macsporran will be
keeping a very close eye on you!

Nothing like a plain speaking grandson, to say it how it is greyduster and your Mrgd certainly has a mischievous streak! panache your accommodation issues are a hard
one to solve with all the different aspects to consider. I do hope that you can find a workable solution that, if not absolutely perfect, is good enough to meet your needs.

Well I know for certain that I will have missed more kitcheners than I have ever remembered, not intentional at all. So sending good wishes to kitchen folk old and new, with special warm thoughts for any with heavy burdens to bear.

We enjoyed a visit to an RHS garden this week, some ohotos attached to give you a touch of spring. x
