Well as first for me. Opening a new kitchen full of light, love and support

MawBroon Tue 26-Mar-19 23:24:12

She absolutely cannot go without insurance!
What happens if there is a problem?
You should make that a deal breaker

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 23:16:06

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 23:14:49

She’s not formally diagnosed with dementia but both her dds and I think she has it.

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 23:13:30

Her dds think she’ll be fine!
I’m sure I’ll manage, but I do want her consultant’s permission and insurance

Charleygirl5 Tue 26-Mar-19 22:45:20

OMG Galen I did not think she would be so stupid! With the two diagnoses, it will cost a fair bit I would have thought. I would gently persuade her to stay at home.

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 22:44:37

Charlie I’m not worried about help for me!
I can manage on my own if I don’t take dresses with back zips, and I’m going to take a wheeled folding walking frame with me to help me to the loo in the night if it’s rough!

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 22:40:51

Originally she wasn’t going to inform her insurance company as she says she’s managing to do everything including drivingshock , but her daughters have persuaded her to do so!

Galen I agree with Maw, especially going on a cruise. It would be no holiday for you acting as her carer especially if her dementia is worsening. Is there anybody else who could take her place?

Mamissimo Tue 26-Mar-19 22:36:38

Galen it sounds as if your friend no longer has the ability to take an informed and responsible decision about this. I would hazard a guess that she won’t have medical insurance and if anything went awry you would be facing a really difficult situation. I don’t think I would be prepared to accept that risk.

You have insight and good critical judgement and the fact that you are asking us strongly suggests that you already have serious doubts. I don’t envy you the tough conversation you need to have but it would be safer for her not to go as you cannot be responsible for her health or safety as they would compromise your own.

1inamillion Tue 26-Mar-19 22:36:34

Soop I'm so glad that the nurse was pleased with you and best wishes for Friday.
Maw a heart wrenching moment indeed ?
Best wishes and loving thoughts to all who are in pain or sorrow.

MawBroon Tue 26-Mar-19 22:06:13

I honestly don’t see how you can take any responsibility for her in anything like a cruise situation Galen I would see it as a constant source of worry and stresss for you.

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 22:04:06

I’m worried about Anne next door.
As I’ve told you she’s on chaemo for inoperable Ca oesophagus. She was supposed to come with me on a a 7 day cruise of the Norwegian fjords in May. She’s insisting she’s fit enough to do it, but seeing her on Monday I’m not sure. Her dementia is worsening and I’m really concerned. She’s supposed to ask her consultant on Friday , but I bet she doesn’t.
Any advice folks?
As you know, I’m not at the height of fitness myself!

Galen Tue 26-Mar-19 21:56:22

Ann
Although things seem bad at the moment, with the diagnosis and care needs finally acknowledged, the way forward should now be smooth.
Have you checked he is on the highest rate of AA?

callgirl1 Tue 26-Mar-19 21:44:29

I`m so sorry that things aren`t going well Ann. After making the momentous decision to let your husband go into the lovely care home, only for him to now be on the dementia ward, must be so deflating for you, and upsetting. I do hope that they can find somewhere nicer for him to go.
How gorgeous young Teddy is, and what beautiful eyes, they`ll send the girls into a spin in years to come!
My son, after his first chemo session on Monday of last week, hasn`t been feeling the best. The next session is April 8th, when he will also begin daily radiotherapy for 6 weeks. At the moment I think that he is mostly fearing the unknown.
Dragonfly, I hope that you aren`t kept waiting around for too much longer, it must be a terrible strain when all you want to do is get on with it.
I had my second quote this morning for some work on the outside of the house, labour only, I will be providing the materials. All I need now is someone to take me to B&Q.

cornergran Tue 26-Mar-19 20:13:19

Evening All. Just back and shattered. Good day but exhausting. So sorry, can’t tespond to you all individually today so sending hopeful wishes to all. Take care.

Doodle Tue 26-Mar-19 19:26:59

panache I’m amazed how you manage to reply to most people and show an interest in so many peoples lives whilst having so many problems of your own to deal with. I think you and our dear soop must be cut from the same cloth.

DH and I have spent so much time in hospitals that we are well aware how others long to get out (sorry not a comment about hospitals just anyone’s desire to be home) so only to pleased to help out family with the escape plan yesterday.

ann more stress for you with your DH’s care. Dementia wards are not a happy place and very sad. My only hope is that when this is all over, as it will some day be, your mind will not linger on this period of your marriage but will instead focus on all the happy times you had together. I am so sorry for your sadness.
As you say dragonfly a really cruel illness. Sorry your mum does not know you. I lost mine many years ago but stil miss her.
maw flowers
soop glad the wound is healing well. Hope the news on Friday will be good. Little Teddy is lovely. A thoughtful young man ?
N&G my DH always loses more weight than me. Annoying isn’t it....hmmm might make him take me out for lunch too ?
marydoll sorry your finger is sore (have you been putting it where you shouldn’t? ?) (sorry it’s the Argy in me coming out ?). If you can’t tease it out with a needle and it continues to be painful I would ask a nurse at the surgery to have a go especially if it becomes inflamed.

Panache Tue 26-Mar-19 17:48:51

Feeling your pain Maw...... that unexpected handwriting is such a poignant reminder of the love that is no longer by your side ..............but certainly very much in your heart.
Catching you at that odd moment always hurts so deeply.

Panache Tue 26-Mar-19 17:46:12

Another gorgous day, although the mornings are rather nippy, however it would seem,if we can believe what I heard this weather forecaster in her predictions last evening, we are in for a treat. The weather will get warmer this week whilst we are to experience something like much warmer weather than usual................ andfor the next 3 months.
Of course I am a little sceptical I have to say!

Whilst would you believe it, but we had our oil CH tank filled up only this morning having ordered it a week ago............but I suppose having it there at the ready does not mean we have to use it......... if the weather warms up nicely!!!

Am not in the best mood because I am having quite a lot of issues with my normal PC and my time here is extremely limited these days, so I cannot afford a machine that plays hot and cold with me.
So I am using my previous Samsung and indeed it works like a treat.
However all was well until I went to send off my posting to you in the Kitchen, all because I have mislaid my password.Very remiss of me I know, and I have been in touch with GQ all afternoon and although supposedly sorted, they still refuse me free passage on my other PC.
After very many mutterings I have had to revert back so that I get this message in ...............and believe me......it is such a joy to be with you lot

I sympathise so with you GQ about this seeing yourself in the mirror after a disturbed sleep.I have learnt to dodge passed ours though at home, when having my hair done this then means I am looking into that image for a while and I really am on edge ...........worse still it only gets worse with time!!!
I go again tomorrow and there is nothing I can do to make it better as though I blame it on a poor sleep I guess its an age old thing!!!

So sorry to read that your H is no better Ann and I am sure you must be near despair.I seriously wish we could offer something constructive to help you, however you are certainly in my thoughts and we as your friends here, are more than happy to offer our support.

Whilst I think our Doodle deserves a medal for giving up a day to help out on Hospital Appointment duty.........many of us know only too well how time consuming that is,totally draining.I think a cuppa .........or three is well needed!!

I am sure you feel much sadness at knowing of your parents marriage term and then with Mother`s Day knowing she will not be aware of the love you show by way of a card and flowersDragonfly
Such a hard situation........really feeling for you.
Also with what seems a drawn out affair regarding your Cancer treatment,it must be upsetting knowing that our dear Soop is well into her treatment and that is exactly what you want to happen. This waiting must truly get you downflowers

I hope all was well with the dressings today Soop and hopefully you will hear this important next chapter of treatment very soon, however thus far you are doing brilliantly..... and I sincerely hope it continues on this same track.

Having made a late but valiant attempt to catch up and join in, I think I will now call it a day, seems as if this day goes on for ever!!
Sending love and blessings to each and everyone of you, hope you too can enjoy some of the sunshine.

MawBroon Tue 26-Mar-19 17:44:49

There is much sadness about and I send my warmest wishes to all of you who are managing to remain upbeat. Your courage is nothing short of inspirational.
I took a carful of cardboard boxes to the dump today - such a depressing place, a sad reminder of how we have far too much “stuff” which gets chucked too easily.
I was also disposing of a printer. I suppose I could have kept it for a charity shop but they don’t always like electrical things. Anyway I told the man that there was a possibility that it was still working thinking they might make a few bob selling it, but no, “just put it on the side of the skip.”
What floored me though was seeing a sticky label attached to the plug end of the flex with “Epson printer” in my darling paw’s writing. Got me right between the eyes. sad
I suppose I will have to expect that sort of thing and cope better than I did. Deep breaths.

soop Tue 26-Mar-19 17:29:54

The dressing has been changed. The wound is clean and the nurse was very pleased with my progress thus far.

So far, no call. I think that it is for the best that I hear the details of the report when we attend the hospital appointment on Friday.

MacSporran is preparing for a committee meeting relating to the village hall fund that needs a mighty generous windfall if it's to take off and provide the village with a replacement for our present decrepit meeting place.

I confess that I haven't played proper catch-up. I shall have more spare time tomorrow. In the meantime, my very best wishes to a huge number of our Granspals who deserve plenty of tender loving care.

smile moon

annodomini Tue 26-Mar-19 17:26:12

ann, that is dispiriting for you. The very words 'dementia ward' are enough to make you shudder. It's a sign of the times in our NHS that they haven't the staff to ensure that all the patients are eating. I hope that your H's next move is to more congenial surroundings -for you as well as him.

soop Tue 26-Mar-19 17:19:41

ann Yet again your sadness continues to present itself in different forms. The dementia ward is not where you wish your dear husband to be. It is however the BEST place for him to receive the expert assistance that you can no longer provide. Feeding him will help you to feel reassured that he is receiving the right food, when he needs it. flowers

soop Tue 26-Mar-19 17:15:02

dragonfly Have returned to updated news from you.
Three hours is an awfully long time to spend in the hospital and still not have the news that you are hoping for. I feel for you. If it helps, please keep chatting away with us lot. It's a difficult thing to have to remain patient and positive.
I am also so sorry that you have the added sadness of your mother's cruel condition to cope with. I wish that we could help you in a more practical way. flowers

annsixty Tue 26-Mar-19 17:13:44

My H now on a dementia ward.
Absolutely awful and soul destroying.
Carers were not what I would hope for but.....
Yet another assessment tomorrow by get another consultant, the third since Sunday.
I have been given a passport to allow me to visit anytime ,particularly meal times so I can feed him to ensure he is eating!!!

dragonfly46 Tue 26-Mar-19 17:05:46

Gorgeous Teddy - you can see he is a great thinker.

Spent 3 hours at the hospital. My ECG there was normal so they are not too worried they say so to continue taking the tablets. My latest MRI showed no change which they said they are aiming for but as I said I want it to reduce in size so it can be operated on. So I still don't know when I will be cancer free. My next scheduled appointment is in 5 weeks unless I have more abnormal ECG's. Just have to get on with it I suppose. I hope your plan on Friday Soop is more satisfactory.

I am so sorry you are still in despair Ann. It is indeed a very sad situation and I feel for you.

My parents would have been married 74 years tomorrow but my mum is so unaware. I have bought her a card and a present for Mother's Day but she is unaware I am her daughter and will not realise the significance. Dementia is very cruel.

Best wishes to all in the kitchen. I hope you all had a good day in the sunshine.
