Soops kitchen refuge for gentle ladies

I assure you all my posting today will certainly be short as we have only just had our electricity returned.
However thanks for caring about how we might cope,a camping gas stove is kept for these odd occasions so we have had hot drinks and soup to help us through a particularly cold day.

Whilst feeling for the many suffering in various ways at the moment,my thoughts have been with Mr & Mrs Synonymous throughout this day........you too Ann whilst *Soop I wish you well for your next trip and hopefully a good outcome.

So good to have the heating on, we are just beginning to feel our tootsies again!!!

It's not long posts that anyone minds. It's that the Kitchen seems to some to have evolved, through its very kindness and thoughtfulness, a propensity to encourage its contributors to try to respond to every person's posts, particularly when someone is struggling with ill-health or family problems.

If it's okay to just pop in and not make responses, just to blether, and not be thought unsympathetic, I'm sure all will be well.

soop and some other regulars have what another gransnetter once described as "the touch". Some of us don't have that in such abundance (we have the feelings but not the readiness with the right words at the right moment) but still want to be thought of as Kitcheners. If that's acceptable then all is well.

I think it is that very ambience you describe Baggs , that acceptance of all that makes it ok to write one line or 100.

When I pop in and apologise for not catching up with all , it’s not you lot that make me feel guilty, I do that all on my own !

Maybe we all need to be a little kinder to ourselves?

I would like to say a special thank you to N&G. For those who deight in being involved - FINE! For those who wish to breeze in and blether for a wee bit - FINE! I am eternally grateful for all the support given me since the kitchen was first opened. From time to time, I am unable to read every single post. That doesn't mean that I don't care. I hope that we all understand each other.

If I'm home at a reasonable hour tomorrow, I shall pop my head around the door. If not, i shall catch up as best I can on Friday.

Anything that encourages baggs to come in the kitchen or often especially now there is no danger of custard being involved!!

It's weird, I could eat custard tarts till the cows come home but the runny stuff makes me feel ill.

DH's appointment went well. We have nothing to worry about but there will be ongoing monitoring in the form of blood tests and routine cystoscopies. The NHS is wonderful!

Thanks Galen! Someone recently suggested an abbreviation roughly saying “thinking of you all” but I can’t remember what it was! If anyone can remind us, I would adopt it .

We collected our new car yesterday as the old car was written off after my husbands accident.We had our first drive out today,went well.I was slightly nervous driving as the dash board is like an aeroplanes instrument panel and the car seemed to be telling me what to do?we had a lovely day with our youngest daughter and grandson and the long drive there and back certainly got me used to the new car?

Good news kitty, you can both breathe again now.

Decorating is progressing well, about 75% of the way. Sorted my wardrobe today, 2 bags for the charity shop and still too much in there . Onwards to Mr C’s wardrobe tomorrow. Is there less in there? Well, actually no .

At the risk of boring you all, may I insert a recipe I’m cooking next weekend. I shall throw all the ingredients in the slow cooker and let it fester away. It comes from the BVIs and may be appreciated with the start of the cricket season.

Chicken thighs
Onion
Green pepper
Large carrot
Chile
Garlic
Fresh ginger
RUM
Light sy sauce
Crushed pineapple

Marinate chicken in soya and rum, then throw in slow cooker.
Adjust quantities to your liking but double the rum.
It really is gorgeous

Following on from the long/short post discussion. Surely there’s room for every one of us in the kitchen and just like in other aspects of life “one size” does not fit all. We all have our different lives, interests, demands on our time as well as joys and sorrows. Some of us are out and about every day, others more confined to home for various reasons.

I work on the assumption that it’s ok to put in and take out of the kitchen what works best for each of us and that varies from day to day really.

Remembering especially Ann soop and Mr and Mrs Syn this evening but of course also TOYA, what a marvellous acronym! Night all!

My iPad doesn’t like SOY for some reason

soop, did you slip in that mention of ironing duty, hoping that none of us would comment. Well, really! So soon after that major surgery, how can you possibly have had the energy, and should you have been doing hard physical labour? Well, that's how I think of ironing. Call me a wimp!

It was me that came up with TOYA (thinking of you all) I think for pretty much the reason mentioned by galen and many others. I often find that between one day and the next there are so many posts it’s hard to keep up. I do read them all but can’t sometimes remember who said what. I think the kitchen is a wonderful place and enjoy all the snippets of news, stories and photos etc. soop has made it clear she is happy for long posts, short ones, poppers in regulars etc to just do what we like. I think we all care about each other so let’s just take that as read and carry on with our news for the day.

galen your recipe post reminded me of the Galloping Gourmet. Do you remember how he used to throw alcohol into every recipe. I have a slow cooker too and like the sound of that. I will have to leave out the pepper though as they make me a bit windy

Doodle I loved Graham Kerr. I still have a couple of his recipe books. He and Ffloyd were two of a kind.
