Soops kitchen refuge for gentle ladies

Go for it soop. "Nothing ventured...". The good thing about hair is that it will grow out if you don't like it. Not true of mine which is fine and thinning and I've never been able to grow it successfully. Even the plaits that everyone had when I was in primary school, on me were thin and weedy and more trouble than they were worth.

I have woken up ‘proper poorly’ today ☹️. It is also weigh in day and Mothers Day has caused havoc with my weight loss so I am sending Grampy off on his own ( the older ladies will make a fuss of him and how ‘brave’ he is to go on his own lol) and I shall retire back to bed !

I’m with you callgirl a spa day is not for me but a lovely treat if you like them.

The new ‘do’ would certainly be trendy and suit you Soop but I do love your hair as it is no too.

I know what you mean Charley she’s growing too fast but has her career path sorted and is going to be a midwife!

GrannyQ, a spay would be my idea of hell! My 2 younger daughters love them, but it`s not for me, and I think (hope) that they know that.

soop, I may be biased as I’m another short hair fan , but I think the style would suit you very well indeed. I’m wondering how much you are really resting, an indomitable spirit is a great asset to have but please do take things steady in these early post surgery days.

not so littlies n&g. I agree it’s lovely when they dip back into being children again. Our 12 year old granddaughter regaled us tonight with a barrage of the corniest jokes ever. One minute fiddling about with make up and FaceTiming her “boyfriend” (who according her mum is very sweet and looks about 10!) then the next minute enjoying a bit of pure slapstick comedy - I love it!

Lovely photos of your afternoon tea callgirl. Dd2 presented me with a card today with the promise of a spa afternoon as a mother’s day treat. Hand on heart they’re not my favourite thing at all! I’ve been a bit daft, over the years when various combinations of my girls have organised this sort of thing for me as a surprise. I’ve never wanted to offend them and really what can you say when it’s all arranged and they’re looking so pleased with themselves for having thought of it? I love it that they want to spend time with me soI have never let on that it’s not really something that would be top of my wish list, daft that’s me! ?

For every Kitchener I have remembered there will be another half dozen I’ve forgotten. Nonetheless I wish you all well and look forward to keeping up with kitchen news at some point. Methinks there’s a very slim chance of that if this fast pace carries on! Night all x

That`s the one 1inamillion! It was sold a good few years ago, and looks a lot better these days, it was looking a bit shabby and run down before. The view is still as good though.

Callgirl1 your Afternoon Tea looks and sounds so good. Is the White Hart by the river in Boston?? If so we stayed there for a weekend in 1982 when it was a Bernie Inn, and you can see the Boston Stump across the river. You post brought back good memories.

About 34 years ago I was in the front garden of our house at the time, and wondered what our 2 cats were so interested in, they were staring at a certain bit of lawn, then I realised the ground was moving. I thought of the possibility of a mole, so chased them away, but in the morning, when I opened the back door, there was a beautiful little mole lying there, unfortunately dead. It was the one and only time I`ve ever seen a mole, it was a lovely little thing, so I`m afraid if I had a garden I`d have to suffer the mole hills rather than go for extermination.

^You lot^will probably think I have lost it totally and I probably have but tomorrow I am going to view a fishmongers shop window. The shop has not been open for long but they have a fish tank in the window and apparently the water is filthy and the fish do not look 100%. I want to see exactly what is there so I can write to the local trading standards. Local people have popped in and said a few words but the owners have been very rude. I hate seeing cruelty.

That style looks nice soop and since you wear your hair up sometimes it would actually give you quite a similar sort of look so I think you might well like it and it would be easier to care for. It will grow again of course!

Wow soop, that would be a change but you know what they say, a change is as good as a rest. I think it would suit you, but I've always had short hair so am doubtlessly biased. Definitely easier to manage and far quicker to dry. What does Macs think?

I've not heard of windmills as a mole deterrent but certainly worth a try. I won't tell you my farmer father's cure for moles, it may upset your tea.

Sorry you aren't feeling so well kitty, can you minimise the rushing around for a while and recover a bit? Bugs take a while to leave us mature folk I think.

You've got very happy grandchildren n&g, isn't it good when the older ones remember they are children? Our 13 year old can be tricked into it from time to time and always says how much fun she has had.

Delighted you have some family time to look forward to galen, little boys do seem to have very long arms that's for sure. Our Littlest isn't so little now and has an eclectic taste in other people's 'interesting' items. Have fun when the day comes.

Sleeping is a very good idea panache, just a shock to the system when we aren't used to it. Hope your day has been a good as it could be.

We'll be visiting the care home together tomorrow. I may (no promises) pop into the hairdresser to show her a style that I really like. It's a very big step - my hair has been long for yonks. I trust her judgement. What do you think?

kitty It's okay to have periods when you sit back and relax. This lot have little idea of how to go about it. Catching up is never ending task. Mind you, I wouldn't wish to stroll into our kitchen and find it empty.

Panache I have never ever slept through the night without stumbling to the bathroom for several wees. It must be wonderfully refreshing to sleep without the constant interruptions.

Thank you for your advice re the mole invasion. Susan since we really do not want to exterminate the creatures, just move them on (there are acres of land outside our patch) we shall give the windmills a whirl.

Doodle We make umpteen allowances for the tardiness forgetfulness of our offspring. It's what we do.

soop I have a photo of my own mother, similar pose, on a piano stool at a similar age. Made me smile then tearful remembering she also died from breast cancer at just 59. Such a strong lady and beautiful inside to out. Such a blessing that treatment is so successful nowadays, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Susan we laughed at the thought of all those windmills but we were recommended a similar but very, very expensive solution which Himself declined. He merely pushed the end of a hose in to the central molehill as far as he could and turned on the tap and had a cup of tea before going to move it to another. Drank an awful lot of tea that day but the moles moved on - or drowned! Don't think Himself's solution would be practical for a paddock though Panache too much tea for MrP! The windmills would be spectacular though!

Trying to steady and keep Himself upright after the morning service yesterday I pulled a muscle in my back which is just about all I need right now! Himself has been brilliant massaging in some oils - under instruction and close supervision - so that is helping. Received much loving support and prayer for Wednesday at Church yesterday which was so welcome and just lovely.

To all those feeling bereft and/or with painful thoughts and memories over Mothering Sunday ((((hugs)))) and I am thankful to have had a wonderful long cuddle from a dear little girl after the service, such a joy!

DD sent a really lovely homemade card and DS sent one which made me laugh out loud and said,

"Mum - well done! I have turned out AWESOME!"

Just typical of them both, feeling truly blessed.

Seems so many of you were inundated with lovely bouquets yesterday and there were many treats all around,well deserved I am sure.

Interesting hearing about the "Windmill method" of mole eradication Susan,something new to add to the many methods already tried and failed!!
Such a shame too for these tiny furry creatures, but quite frankly, other than making such unsightly mounds of beautiful soil they are quite harmless.
BTW we use those windmills to scare away the birds from our floral tubs, so indeed they have their may uses!!

Sam is booked in for a 'summer' hair cut this afternoon as he smells a bit . Not his fault but his ears have grown too long and now dunk in his dinner gravy!! Oh the trials and tribulations of being a spaniel.

Good Morning fellow kitcheners I’m going to try my best to catch up now!

Thank you for the retirement wishes for Mr W – he has indeed been wanting a 3D printer for some time. It’s still in it’s box but is now in the car as he’s going to the bungalow today for a few days and intends setting it up over there to play with. He’s still shocked at receiving it – I did know as his work colleague had e-mailed me to ask about one We treated ourselves to lunch in our favourite Thai restaurant in Meadowhell on Saturday – luckily before it got incredibly busy.

Belated Mother’s Day wishes to all of you and thoughts were with those who for one reason or another do not celebrate. I had a lovely bouquet arrive from Moonpig yesterday morning from DS1 and then my eldest GD sent me a message to say thank you for giving them the best dad ever which I thought was lovely. DS2 wouldn’t know it what day it was over in NZ.

What lovely photos of Fountains Abbey – I’ve never been. Doodle your tea party sounds lovely and a great picture of you all. Soop your mum was a pretty little girl – how nice to have such good memories of her indomitable spirit in such awful circumstances – far too young to die. My maternal grandmother was only 61 when she passed away with a mastoid – unheard of these days – she also was a strong woman and I wish I’d known her.

It’s good to know the NHS are taking such good care of you Soop but the journeys to and from the hospital must be exhausting for you both. It doesn’t really seem right that in this day and age a biopsy has to be sent to the US for analysis though. Our niece’s cancer was oestrogen fuelled too – sadly although she asked about egg harvesting for future children (she was only 31 when diagnosed) they said this wasn’t possible as she would need to take extra oestrogen to do this which would have been too dangerous. Thankfully they did have one little boy and she is still clear 4 years later.

Ann such a sad and tiring time for you even now – to be going back and forth to the hospital to try and ensure your husband eats something must be a trial. I did this with my dad who stopped eating – it was rewarding when I managed to get something down him but left to the hospital staff he would have nothing – not entirely their fault as they are all run off their feet.

Synonymous sometimes we have to be cruel to be kind and your comment to your husband will possibly help in the coming weeks and months during his recovery – don’t beat yourself up about it – you’ve not been well yourself so it’s totally understandable. My dad practically lived on Gaviscon – he’d had a duodenal ulcer removed back in the 1950’s where they’d taken part of his stomach too so he often suffered with pain. Again not something they would operate on these days.

Panache thoughts are always with you – I’m glad you at last have the garden being taken care of. Even a small garden takes some looking after when you’re both so ill so it must be a worry when its so large especially with prospective viewings to take into account. Now the spring has finally sprung fingers crossed you find a buyer who isn’t in a chain with property still to sell.

Gransal commiserations on not being able to have that cuddle with new baby Erin (I had a work colleague in the US with that name) but as we all know emotions run very high with new mums (and dads) so the time will come.

Mamissimo what a beautiful little girl – the duck cake looks yummy too!

Apologies as I’m sure I’ve missed out far too many people – it’s hard to keep track. I will be spending the next few days trying to get to grip with our garden as Mr W is away – or maybe I’ll just spend the time reading and enjoying the peace

Yes thank you Doodle, our afternoon tea at the White Hart in Boston was really lovely. Dinky little sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, chocolate mousse with raspberries on top, mini choc eclairs, carrot cake, something else, don`t know it`s name, bit I didn`t like it, and unlimited tea or coffee. Also very pleasant staff.
Sorry, forgot to wish all a Happy Mothers Day.
I`ve had 2 lots of flowers, 2 lipsticks and 2 bars of chocolate. David rang to apologise for not getting me a card, but he`s got a lot more to worry about right now.
