ann I am so sorry to hear you are so poorly. Unfortunately all that you have had to put up with recently has lowered your immune system. On the up side there is no way you can go to the hospital with that bug so it will give you a break and you will see that your DH is still being well looked after.

Grey my DH was bitten by a dog recently and I rang 111. Surprisingly I was told our local urgent care centre does not carry tetanus injections. But we were also told they do not worry so much about bites as there are usually not too many germs involved. It is much more serious if it is a paw scratch.

Baggs and Galen I know exactly what you mean! I have not been posting so much recently as I feel I cannot keep up and as you say I was not up to standard. By the way this is not in any way a criticism of anyone and it is lovely that some people are able to do this but I am so frightened of offending.

galen, thank you for saying that. I have felt I couldn't just breeze into the Kitchen with a bit of chit-chat quite often. Not that anyone has criticised when I have done that, but the fear of not "fitting in" with the general tenor is still there.

I'm sure soop doesn't mind. It would be nice if some other people could reassure those of us who have felt a little put off because we've felt we weren't up to standard, iyswim.

Ann how awful! I hope you shake off this bug as soon as possible, it sounds truly nasty.

All my attempts to persuade Mr GD to get his leg looked at by someone other than Nurse HandmetheGermolene here have fallen on deaf ears. It looks clean this morning and no sign of infection but I know that is not the only consideration. All I can do is keep an eye on him and hope that the on the spot intervention with an antiseptic dressing (held in place by micropore tape - he yelled loudly when I ripped it off his hairy leg, which I found quite satisfying in the face of his intransigence!) has helped. Why are men so stupid?

I am off to get my haircut shortly, and then call in on my neice for a cup of tea and a natter. Thinking about everyone who has a difficult day ahead for whatever reason.

ann, so sorry about this vicious but you've picked up. You are doing the right thing, staying in bed and letting yourself be looked after, but if it gets any worse, you need to contact your GP. I hope we hear better news of you soon. xx

Ann staying in bed when you feel so rough is definitely the best medicine – the hospital wouldn’t want you there either although it’s very probably where you’ve picked up the bug in the first place!

Soop there was something on the TV last night about using mesh in operations – it seems it had been banned at one point but is now deemed safe so will be used again. I hope you’re feeling better today and also everyone else who is feeling under the weather.

The short hairstyle looks very nice. I bought a short wig some years ago in my original dark shade – the style looked fine but not the colour and as Mr W and our brother in law thought it was hilarious (both putting it on) it’s still in the box under the bed. I do sometimes think I’ll have mine cut but then chicken out when my hairdresser asks if I’m having ‘any off’ so she just tidies up my fringe.

Grey what a nasty shock and I echo others comments re tetanus. I had a friend who was badly bitten on her arm by a dog when she was doing the owners garden – the dog wasn’t loose but somehow managed to grab her forearm and even through her clothing made a terrible mess which required stitches. It took ages to heal and has left a bad scar.

One of my neighbours knocked on the door on Monday evening asking if I knew the derelict garage at the end of our garden was on fire! Her partner had rung the fire brigade and hopped over the fence to use the hosepipe on our summerhouse roof which is right up against the wall and also the very high conifers of the neighbours on the other side until the fire engine arrived. Thank heavens they saw if as the whole situation could have been far worse especially as Mr W is away so I was on my own. I have complained to the environmental health department about the land which needs clearing following the demolition of a large building a couple of years ago but so far had no response.

Panache my husband used to be up to the loo every 2 hours some years ago. It was before he was diagnosed with sleep apnea and due to the fact he wasn’t actually properly asleep – he was exhausted all day. I know it’s a different scenario but can understand how tiring it all is. I hope your electricity isn’t off as long as predicted – we had the meters replaced in the bungalow a couple of weeks ago so it was off for 2 hours and it’s very difficult to find something to do that doesn’t involve power apart from reading or sleeping!

We have a new nail/beauty salon opened locally which is run by a very nice Vietnamese couple – I had a fantastic pedicure there last week. Yesterday I went in to have a manicure and another woman came in and started talking to the owner in what can only be described as pidgin English – their English is pretty good but obviously heavily accented. I thought this lady must also be foreign – maybe Eastern European. It was only when she stared talking to the other client at the side of me in broad South Yorkshire I realised she was using this strange language to the nail technicians. I found it funny as she switched back and forth depending on who she was talking to I’ve no idea what the owners thought!

The sun is out this morning but the forecast is for more rain so I had better go and batten down the hatches – or prepare the conservatory for leaks!

soop I think you have such a lovely face that any style would suit you (I prefer to wear my medium length and thick hair in such a way as to cover as much of my face as possible ?)

panache when you are doing your trips to the loo at night you could wave to my DH who may well be up doing the same thing. Not quite as often as you but still quite a lot. You have my sympathy. It makes DH very tired and must do the same to you.

Goodness greyd that sounds frightening, would mrg agree to getting the wound checked tomorrow? Think if the skin was broken he really should. Maybe be sneaky and phone 111 quietly and see what they say, just to put your mind at rest.

GreyD, that`s shocking! That woman shouldn`t be allowed to keep dogs. Please check that Mr GreyD`s tetanus is up to date. There`s an old chap lives not far from us around the corner on the main road, we call him Steptoe because he looks like old man Steptoe. He has 3 dogs which he walks down the bank outside here, they`re all yappy, but one, a black Labrador type, is plain nasty. A couple of years ago we had a new gate put on the end of our yard, the other broke years ago, and he had the cheek to complain that his little Jack Russell used to like squeezing between the bars of our side gate and running through the yard and out the end, but he can`t do it anymore now we`ve put a gate on!

Corner, it`s good that your decorator is doing it right for you. I`m waiting for someone to get back to me as to when he can do a job for me, if I don`t hear soon the job will go elsewhere.
Panache, that reminds me of the electricity workers strikes years ago, going to the showroom to see in the window when our area was going to be "off", and making flasks and sandwiches up ready for the power going off.

Greyd - rogue dogs are frightening. Hope your husband's wound heals well. When living in the country we were advised to carry a big stick to intimidate or bash such animals.
