Soops kitchen refuge for gentle ladies

I often look in on the kitchen but rarely post as so many have things of great concern to mention. Lovely flowers and cards soop and I hope you feel better soon.

Another Otis Redding/soul fan here. Lovely and unusual name Maw. (A friend has just become a Granny and her new DGD is Billie, named after Billie Holiday.)

Glad to hear of some progress, soop, however small.
I had a phone call this pm from my close friend of working days who is the same age as me -83. She has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. They recommend medical treatment first. Hers is a lump. So many with problems.
Maw - good for your son and DIL to choose Otis, he won't be mistaken for someone else. And lovely to have your DH's name as well.

dragonfly That's positive. I wouldn't lie to you. It wouldn't be fair. No way will I reach the "poor me" stage. Should I falter...stick around and I shall recover asap.

What a busy day. I haven't achieved much. Although it seems to have been non-stop this and thating. We all have such days.

Do not need to see the nurse until midday. Hence I shall call in after breakfast. My love to every single one of you. I thank my lucky stars that you strolled into the kitchen and made a huge difference to my flagging confidence.

Fennel Have only just read your last message. When I looked around the breast cancer waiting room, I was struck by the vast difference in ages of the patients. Being a breast less at my age (78) doesn't dismay me unduly. For younger women, it will be very distressing. The only time that I felt shocked, was on discovering the difference in the appearance of my breast. From thereon, I have remained grateful that I am receiving the best treatment for what I hope will be a decent quality of life for whatever time I'm gifted. (hugs)

That sounds more comfortable soop, a step forward. Please don’t overdo things though, gently does it. The flowers and cards are certainly the stuff to lift spirits.

Although delighted to find a new kitchen I’m anithrr one who isn’t sure she is either gentle or a lady . I’ll be very quiet and hope no one notices an imposter.

I recall the ‘ouch’ of a cannula callgirl, hope today was more comfortable for your son and after your long trip the funeral as good as it could be.

Love Otis mawb, his middle name will also be just right. Our Littlest carries my Dad’s name, the news brought a tear here so I can imagine your response to hearing paws name included.

Greyduster your Guinea pig comment made me smile. We used to look after the local primary school's two Guinea pigs during the school holidays. DS was was supposed to do it but it turned out that he was allergic to their fur, that was his excuse anyway ?

I had to dash out unexpectedly just after opening time so apologies for the brief introduction to the new kitchen. Anyway all welcome. Pleased to know so many enjoy that lovely song about Miss Otis, and yes, what a lovely middle name it is too for the kitchens youngest addition.

Someone sent me an inspirational piece of writing today which they culled from a past Sunday paper magazine. Its 10 things you didn't know about dementia by Wendy Mitchell. What an amazing woman. I actually ordered her book today from A*** which I shall take on my next walkabout.

greyduster please be assured that you are most welcome in the kitchen. Remember ladies often need to be hard and both you and Marydoll and cornergran - from previous posts and support to many- are decidedly ladies. Please continue to use this refuge of support and compassion that is the latest edition of soops kitchen.

There are so many with troubles and concerns, and I have great difficulty in remembering. Even if I scroll back, a lot of the time I have forgotten by the time I find my posts in progress. So apologies for not mentioning everyone, but you all remain special and worthy of mention.

Soop take it easy and accept any help and support you can get. Your body needs rest after your surgical assault. I admire your tenacity.

I had a wonderful swim today and luxuriated in the freedom of being in water. The temperature was just right, it was very quiet and I came home rejuvenated.

Btw grey my brain scan confirmed the crossed wires (!!!) but no matter we got the new kitchen sorted eventually. I do think however, we need to put in a full planning application for an extension so that all newcomers find a place to relax and be welcomed. Any offers?

Soop please don't over-exert yourself just 'cos you feel you should do things. I can manage does not mean I'm over major surgery. That's an amazing display of flowers and cards you've received and I'm sure there's a lorry-load of virtual ones to be delivered too

ann hope your dark cloud is lifting a bit and that Miss Otis and Otis Redding bring some smiles to your days. My DS usually has music (or that's what he says it is!) playing quite loudly but when I was there at the weekend he had easy jazz drifting through the speakers and it was sooo relaxing.

That's probably my last visit today as I'm worn out from beating egg whites for the (fat-free) passion fruit pavlova I've left for you all. I think I'm right in saying the men's ward is empty at the moment, otherwise it might have tickled their fancies

Just popping in to say that the doctor we saw was as perplexed as we were as to why we were there so we came home again with another appointment for 2 weeks time. I'm exhausted now so off to bed.

What a kerfuffle (as my grandson says) , but it is a relief that there was no sinister reason for the appointment

Oh, kitty Us lot were all awaiting your last message with a mixture of emotions. Relax, breathe, and we'll make a big fuss of you.

Swanny So that's where the not so poorly menfolk are. They were in the previous kitchen annex AND they are most likely still locked in. Someone (genteel) please pop in to administer a little light relief. Don't over-do it. They'll remain there for as long as they think us lot are sort of sorry for them.

I crept in in the misguided hope that the kitchen would be quiet. I imagined being able to concentrate on all the messages. Will it ever be that easy to catch-up? Nah! It's what it is. A fabulous place for the very best of companionship.

I have to go to the surgery to have the stoma bag emptied. No wet bed clothes. No discomfort now that the stiches and tubing have been removed from the drainage access. slept like a baby. Otis please pay attention. Give your mummy and daddy time to recoup and recharge their batteries.

I am not quite sure I shall be welcomed as Gentle does not quite fit well my nature........... but on the other hand, try keeping me away though!!!
So much so I overstepped the mark yesterday as I was not going to be the one to let Soop`s Kitchen fade away...................not that I think it would with our Soop at the helm!!!.

Glad to hear yesterday`s mission has sort of cleaned you up Soopand a stoma should solve this leaking problem which is very uncomfortable........and of course adds to chores that you do not really wish to do at this early delicate time.
Hopefully things will nicely settle down now.

I am quite confused about Mr Lester Kitty though it seems as if once again the NHS have got wires crosed?
I think perhaps someone is being overly zealous.

Must say our lot in the NHS are desperately slow.My dear man had heart scans,tests etc back throughout January and both he........and then our GP....... have actually had to demand some answers,thankfully they are clear..........BUT........the Consultant he saw back then also requested an early abdominal scan and more blood checks..........it is now nearing the end ofMarch...........and we are informed of this..........we are despairing.
What a load of problems we have had and most certainly unwarranted.

I rather like the name Otis,and surely a name that cannot be shortened,whilst it must be very comforting Maw having your dear husband`s name as his middle name,very special and meaningful to you.

Loving the idea of a chaise in this kitchen of ours, and may I donate one welsh woollen blanket as both a throw and cover up for those resting their tootsies?

Taking my leave as I feel I need a rest, but I shall certainly be keeping my eye open on the Kitchen activities..... which these days is well and truly quite an achievement.........you are certainly a very keen lot .......and long may it last.

Soop glad that you are feeling more comfortable and a good night’s sleep will have helped enormously!

DH saw the orthopaedic consultant this morning. Although they will not consider repairing the shoulder tendon until his neurological problem has been diagnosed, he had a steroid injection which has helped the pain enormously. So now he too will be able to sleep better! Also, as he can now use his arm, he will be able to do things (nothing too strenuous though!). He’s not one for sitting around and it was making him miserable. It’s a sunny day here and I guess he will be down in the greenhouse shortly!

I thought orange drizzle cake might make a change from lemon, so am leaving one in the kitchen.
