Soops kitchen refuge for gentle ladies

I don't post on here often because I don't have a lot of interesting stuff going on tbh, but I love to read the posts on here and to wish people well when there are so many buggerations (love this expression). I didn't think it mattered whether you posted a little or a lot. All of it's interesting, it makes me laugh and sometimes cry.

Seemed odd that the start of all this began with someone asking people to keep posts short and then proceeds with two pages of recipes. Or that is how it appears.

Shame to spoil what is a lovely, kind and understanding Kitchen, with posters who are so kind and genuine. I've always thought of it as a sanctuary, and long may it continue x.

I wasn’t trying to say that people shouldn’t post long pots, but that some of us felt that if we didn’t comment on everyone’s posts other people would feel we were ignoring them

Don't anyone worry about ripples in the Kitchen. The problem, as felt by some, was not so much the length of posts as a feeling that one should answer a range of previous posts. If it's allright not to do that and just to pitch in in one's own way, then there isn't a problem.

I like the look of that rummy yummy stew, galen. I shall give it a go. I might have to hide any rum that's left (so I can make the stew again) or it might disappear down MrB's gullet evaporate (hidden rum does not evaporate; useful to know).

My mum, whose ninetieth birthday is at the end of June had a fall yesterday at home and broke a few ribs. My brother who looks after her took her to A&E and she was admitted. Bro will update us (me and three other siblings) later.

Surprised by a good morning here - rain later I fear. Our house is now up for sale and 36 hours in, we have a booking for the first viewing, early next week. Exciting times chez Topsy!

Finally have my x-ray appointment on the horizon and urgent physio assessment is being sought via the traditional route as apparently the ‘quick’ assessment organisation aren’t so quick . It’s not often heard but I’m delighted with the staff in my GP surgery, no one could be trying harder on my behalf.

Carrot and coriander soup here yesterday, goodness knows what today. I’m off to attack Mr C’s wardrobe, he said fine to do it, maybe I should have got that in writing . Take care all.

Just rushing off to our Hospital where my man is to meet with his Consultant so once again time is limited.
However following reading Galen`s post and followed by several others on the same subject,knowing I have been one of your more prolific writers I thought my days here in the Kitchen were numbered.
I strongly felt it would be down to Soop to make any decisions however knowing the number of health issues she is battling through at this point no way could this worry be added.
I shall say my piece later on if I may but for now my thoughts are very much with you Soop ..........may you have a trouble free journey and some helpful results and dialogue with "your team"
Also thoughts with both Mr & Mrs Syn........so good hearing the dastardly deed has been completed and your dear man is back on the ward............and every day friom now on will be a further day forward in his recuperation.

Thank you, granniequeenie your post came as close to my own feelings on the matter of whatever it is that has sent a few ripples through the kitchen.
There are absolutely no rules. All I've ever hoped is that we refrain from being insensitive to anothers points of view. We are unique. Thank goodness! "One size doesn't fit all." Hence the lovely Argy Bargy Caff serves a proper purpose.

Anyway, I should be orf. The weather isn't too fussy right now. As long as we do not encounter snow we'll be happy bunnies.

I did not sleep well last night, so I am just pottering today, the gardener is due his first visit but after yesterday's rain and hail, and the promise of more to come, don't think that will happen. Man from Salvation Army coming to collect bits and pieces, he came yesterday, but I did not hear him knock, must get a better door bell, I think.

In the big picture of things I shouldn’t complain but had the worst night , coughing and sneezing can’t lay down, can’t sit up - you know how it goes ! I am the worst patient too so it is VERY unsunny here this morning !!

I read all the recipes with interest as I too am a huge soup maker fan . Our last soup was a fake Heinz tomato soup , 2 tins chopped tomtoes, 1 tin of baked beans, 1 tin of carrots, 2 veg stock cubes ....and the secret ingredient .....approx 4 small silverskin pickled onions. It’s pretty darn good !

I am off to sort myself out as after a week with no oven the new one arrives today - NOT that I am doing any cooking .....far too ill ???!

Morning all, I haven’t joined in for a while although I often read the posts.

Just off to spend the day with DD and her youngest two children. The other two are skiing in France with their Dad and the other grandparents if you don’t mind!

I’ll enjoy the relative peace and quiet.

It’s amazing what wonderful soups one makes with odds and ends.

Galen my favourite gadget is my soup maker. Tonight's was squash and cauliflower, with a leek, a vegetable stockpot and some leftover pasta from last night thrown in. Not tried that combination before but it was delicious.

Just said goodnight to Himself, I know he is mine but he is truly amazing and was making terrible jokes all day The staff were wonderful and very kind to me too.
He only had one really horrid moment the whole day when I overtook a lorry on the way to the hospital early this morning and the whole PTSD trauma came back with a vengeance. I truly think it was as bad following it as it was to overtake so it was a no win situation. On arrival I had to bully him into a wheelchair because there was no way he could have managed to walk never mind the crutches or carry baggage but he didn't want me pushing it. I told him not to worry and that I wouldn't push it at all and just turned it round and pulled it. It was quite easy once I made him take his feet off the wheels and put them on to the footrest! .
(Anyway there was also my handbag! Well, I knew I needed my breakfast and nibbles for the day, water and a book on top of the usual! )
Btw, what ever happened to porters?
Long story short he says thank you for all the messages and he is fine. I know he will be but he is pale and tired probably because he has lost quite a bit of blood which is understandable. He was out of his room for more than 5 hours. It was a very long time. Neither of us slept very well last night so I hope we do better tonight. My poor man has such a lot to contend with at present but I expect exhaustion will take over.

Sorry not to pickup on all the posts but I don't think I have ever seen so many in such a short time so it is clearly impossible! 'You lot' are all very special!

Tonight was home made tomato and veg soup made in the soup maker.
My late son used to sayi was the gadget queen

ALL the alcohol boils off in the cooking
Beef bourgignion also takes a lot of wine and involves making 3 basic sauces.
It’s was my party dish.
Alas, I no longer can stand or sit to prepare.
So, I have to reconcile myself to slow cooker meals and no entertaining except Gary and Kate’s Monday soup or stew.
They eat at the table, I have tray in the lounge

OMG Galen - if I followed your recipes I would soon be joining the AA.

The chicken recipe sounds great but I have never tasted or possessed rum so that will be a no-no.

doodle you should try my spaghetti with ragu, it uses 1/2 bottle of good quality Tuscan wine to make with a 50/50 mixture of veal and pork mince.

Galen, soop goes to another lady's house to do the ironing and each week soop is there for hours. I agree, she should not have been there and the lady should have had more sense.

I do hope that Mr. Synonymous is okay and sleeping well.

I am firmly of the opinion that there aren’t many dishes that can’t be improved with a splash of alcohol....especially if I’m cooking them ?
