Just writing a post in another subject about my mum and Mother's Day did just that, my eyes prickled and the tears formed. If you had a loving mother and father it doesn't matter how old you are you still miss them even after so many years of their deaths.

Gone girl - I know just what you mean. Many things bring tears to my eyes, but sometimes I think a real good sob would get rid of a lot of pent up emotion. Just can't seem to do it anymore!

I hold back the tears for today, St. Patrick's Day because it is exactly nine years ago that my dear late husband got his rotten diagnosis of motor neurone disease. I put a brave face on it but find it sad.

I used to believe I was close to my sister but as the years have passed she has become mean, nasty and she thinks she is better than the rest of our family.

My daughter recently immigrated to Ireland. I still miss them dreadfully and at times get extremely emotional as I miss her and my grandson dreadfully.

My sister only contacts me when she wants something. A few weeks ago she called to tell me they were also immigrating to Ireland. Since then she phoned every few days to gloat and she rubs it in, she is moving close to my daughter, she will be bonding with my grandson and she will be spending loads of time doing fun things with them.

This is upsetting me. It is mean and she is deliberately upsetting me. She knows how pset I feel about the loss of my family to another country. Why does she need to go out of her way to make me feel worse.

I have developed a dislike for my own sister. She is just a nasty piece of work. I just dont know how to move forward with her.
Should I just cut her loose. She treats my parents with the same disrespect. I cannot believe how different we are.

Thank you all for your lovely stories. I found that once I became a mum, I got very emotional.
Now there are certains hymns we sing, or music DH plays, that make me feel very teary.
Chimera, I felt so sad that your daughters have become so distant, but how lucky you are to still have your mum.
The lovely idea of sending a card to a daughter, from one mum to another, is one I shall pinch in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for sharing everyone.

The advert where the little girl playing football and talking her blind dad through the game brings tears to my eyes.

I'm dreading mother's day this year. sad

I embarrass myself by shedding a few tears(of joy) when i`m on the train going on holiday,i want to go on holiday and i like where i live but it`s the thought of coming back to everyday life.

Gonegirl Yes - Over the years have experienced very lengthy periods when tears just wouldn't come but when they did they came all at once, as though a dam broke-

Certain things remind me of my son, he loved a roast beef dinner. My dear mum and dad and all the lovely memories I have of them. Hope my son is having a lovely time with them up in heaven.

I held my Husbands hand as he died and I was reciting the "Hail Mary" , now I can't say it without a lump in my throat and tears flow

I find I cry much more easily now I am older. The other frustrating thing is that I cry when I'm angry, takes the edge right off the cutting remark I'm about to make.

DGS made me cry last night when he told me he couldn't remember his life before he came to live with me, when his Mum died. He was 4 at the time.
I don't like Mothers' day. It feels like it's emphasising that neither of us have a mother now and I don't have a daughter.

Grandma70s Sun 17-Mar-19 12:40:29

I can’t think about my nephew’s premature birth and desperate struggle to live without crying. He did live, I’m glad to say, and is now a father himself.

Jenny Agutter in The Railway Children.

Most Schubert songs.

The sound of a really good boy treble. I shed a lot of tears over Aled Jones in the 1980s!

There are parts of books that always trigger tears. Matthew’s death in Anne of Green Gables is one.

Buttercups en masse, or indeed most wild flowers in profusion. That’s nostalgia for my childhood when ther seemed to be so many more wild flowers.

Wish we had a sister day. I love my sister with all my heart and can't bear to think that one day one of us will be without the other. We do so much together and always kiss and have a cuddle when we meet. Feel so blessed that we live in the same town and can get to each other in 10 mins.

Gonegirl Sun 17-Mar-19 12:26:21

I'm sendin a card and some flowers to my daughter for Mothering Sunday telling her she's a great mum.

DanniRae Sun 17-Mar-19 12:21:58

I cry so easily it is embarrassing. But my dear dad was exactly the same.
Just reading this this thread has made me have tears in my eyes. No sad tv programmes for me either. I am concerned to read that you get more emotional as you age. Good grief - I don't like the sound of that! shock

B9exchange Sun 17-Mar-19 11:55:56

I still miss my mum, who died in 1995. I really struggled with Mothering Sunday, seeing all the displays in the shops and not having a mum to buy for. She always used to send me a card on Mothering Sunday, I thought she was mad, but she signed it 'from one mum to another'. When my grandchildren arrived, I started buying cards for DD and DDIls, writing the same message in them. I am sure they think I am mad too, but it means I can go into cards shops around this time with a reason, it eases the pain to think mum's gesture is being carried on.

Laurensnan Sun 17-Mar-19 11:53:15

Mother's Day is bittersweet to me. I'm so blessed to still have my mum at age 91 to see, hug, tell her I love her and send a card to. On the other hand my son is not here to give me a card and a big hug and to tell me he loves me. I lost him to cancer age 26 and am devastated.

JackyB Sun 17-Mar-19 11:51:21

I get emotional whenever I hear Hans-Dietrich Genscher's announcement at the Embassy in Budapest. Welling up now just mentioning it.

On a similar subject, Billy Joel's song Leningrad never fails to reduce me to tears.

We are lucky to have spent our lives in peace times. Not sure how much longer it can last.

inishowen Sun 17-Mar-19 11:46:12

Tears sprang to my eyes yesterday. The rugby players came onto the pitch and one was holding a little boy's hand. The boy was disabled and was trying so hard to walk. Brave children make me so emotional.
