I m listening to an awful incident unfolding in NZ a mass shooting on mosques in Christchurch. Multiple deaths including children the perpetrators have put live video footage of people being shot and killed on the web
It is reported to be a white Supremacy massacre, only one shooter has been captured

What a sad sad day for the world

I think there is a real difference between Australia and NZ wrt racism and its ‘strength’. NZ is far from perfect but has made huge stride especially wrt the position of the Maoris cf with the Aborigines in Australia. Of course both countries have racists, as do we but I don’t think A and NZ can be equated in their ‘strong racism’.

Anniebach Fri 15-Mar-19 09:18:53

Racism is strong in New Zealand and Australia

BlueBelle Fri 15-Mar-19 09:18:52

Yes he’s a 28 year old Australian far right who has apparently planned this for years shockingly one of the shooters was a woman I don’t know why that shocks me even more
The latest is they have three in custody (originally said 4) and 49 dead with at least 20 more in very serious conditions

I just cry for our world what have we done why, why, why

No EV not a madman - a group of terroists, extremely well organised and well equipped and very dangerous.

ninathenana Fri 15-Mar-19 09:15:54

DH and I both looked at each other incredulously when we heard this had happened in NZ.
Such an awful thing to happen anywhere but we always think of NZ as a peaceful nation. Is it cynical to think perhaps they chose NZ for that reason ? Maximum impact.

My thoughts and prayers for all those involved.

maryeliza54 Fri 15-Mar-19 09:14:55

For NZ it’s like a loss of innocence isn’t it - the mosques apparently had no security because it never crossed anyone’s mind it was necessary. One of the terroists is Australian and there are some suggestions that NZ wasn’t the first choice but maybe other choices had more security? Just so ineffably sad

Another madman !
Just been reading online about this Australian psycho.

This is horrendous !!

Anniebach Fri 15-Mar-19 09:00:43

Such tragic news

Luckygirl Fri 15-Mar-19 08:44:50

So sad. And violence breeds more violence.

EllanVannin Fri 15-Mar-19 08:42:29

Just this minute put the TV on but at this moment I don't quite know what's happened so will have to look at the online news.

PamelaJ1 Fri 15-Mar-19 08:30:51

Where do these wicked people come from?
We just have to be thankful that the majority of us are horrified by these acts.
That poor community, their peaceful city has now been drawn into the unhappiness and fear that, unfortunately, we have become accustomed to.

megan123 Fri 15-Mar-19 08:26:14

Shocking events in NZ, I have just put the news on. What a wicked world we live in. So sad.

Mapleleaf Fri 15-Mar-19 08:23:18

I haven't seen the news yet, but this us dreadful. I too, have been to NZ and to Christchurch. I have relatives in Christchurch and elsewhere. This kind of news sickens and saddens me. It is evil.

It’s a real shock, from a country like NZ which I always think of as such a peaceful place, however I suppose crime and racism is everywhere. The visiting football team were very lucky to escape as they got caught up in it as they were going to the mosque to pray.
I heard that the police have caught four people in connection with it.

glammanana Fri 15-Mar-19 08:19:33

Yet another massacre by extremist, sick fanatics. What kind of world have we brought our children and grandchildren into? 2019 and we seem to have learned nothing. angry

Chewbacca Fri 15-Mar-19 07:42:20

What is happening in the world. When will all the violence and anger end? sad

mary51 Fri 15-Mar-19 07:39:22

I have visited New Zealand a few times and really feel for them today. It is a lovely country and the people are so laid back and relaxed and friendly. Dreadful for Christchurch and all families involved

Bellanonna Fri 15-Mar-19 07:26:34

Appalling news. It’s dreadful anywhere but especially shocking that it’s happened in NZ. Awful day for the world.

ayse Fri 15-Mar-19 07:10:34

I’m so shocked and my heart goes out to all these people and their families. Nowhere is safe from fanatics, whatever cloak they wear.

Anja Fri 15-Mar-19 07:05:26

Utterly horrible. Such hatred in the world ?
