Vintage Barbie

My Barbie doll was bought by my parents in New York in 1963. You couldn’t buy them in the UK I don’t think then. I played with her so much - as did my DD (now aged 40) and I am wondering whether to let my little DGD have her, and the original Barbie outfits or should I try and sell her (Barbie not my little GD) and get some (much needed) money. They actually don’t seem to sell for as much as I have been led to believe, having perused E Bay. Any opinions?

If she's not mint in box she's not especially valuable for resale, and it sounds like she is a much cherished family heirloom.

It's up to you, and you maybe want to keep an eye on ebay for a bit to see what other Barbies of the same age and condition (ideally the same model) are selling for.

Esther I'm wondering if there's a specific Barbie site that you could try selling on? Some of the really early dolls sell for quite a bit, I think, especially if they have original outfits and accessories. May be worth a quick Google search! I have one of a similar age, sent to me from the US by my DA, but can't bear to part with her!

Thank you for advice. Will have a peruse on line. One of my earliest childhood memories of her was showing her to my teacher at school and the teacher said my Barbie was ‘ugly and she didn’t like her face’ I can’t imagine any teacher saying something like that these days!
