How to explain the inexplicable

Some years ago when visiting family I lost an earring in my bedroom. I crawled around on the floor searching for it, I even shook all the bedclothes in case it had fallen in the bed without any luck. When I went to bed I said a little prayer asking for help finding it. The next morning as I got out of bed I stepped on it!

Sometime in the early 1990s, a friend told me about a book called The Celestine Prophecy she had read it and found it fascination. According to her, it is some kind of psychological story based on ancient Eastern traditions. It didn’t appeal to me, so I listened and then dismissed the conversation. A few days later I went into my local bookshop to look for something – I can’t remember what – and as I walked along the rows of books – yes you guessed it ‘that’ book fell from the shelf and landed a few inches in front of my feet. I didn’t buy it, but I still wonder why/how it happened.

I may have posted this before - I was contemplating moving a picture to another wall but was reluctant as my late DH had chosen the put it where it was.

During the night I heard a crash, went downstairs to find the picture on the floor. On examination the picture hook and the picture wire were both perfectly OK not broken or bent. I am convinced it was my DH telling me to do what I wanted.

I wear a pair of inexpensive drop earrings, every single day without fail. Last year I was visiting my daughter in New York. We were going out to the car and I saw something on the driveway. I leaned down and it was one of my earrings. I had not noticed that had apparently fallen off. But when I picked it up - the back piece was in place! How on earth did that happen??

This isn't unusual for me .ni had been thinking about my dear dad who had died years ago I went into the bedroom and a photo that had obviously been away in the drawer was on the floor picture of dad holding me on a sunny day months after I was born. Recently lost a bracelet not expensive but mine anyway muttered away about it and got into my car there it was on the seat!!! Could tell you loads more but don't want to hog thread.

The weirdest thing happened to me in 1980 or thereabouts, feeling low I was walking through the market and stopped at the record stall to ask if they had the record, " Miss you like crazy " by Natalie Cole as D and SiL had not long emigrated.
The assistant grabbed a pile of 7" vinyls to go through when one dropped out on the floor---------yes, you've guessed it ! The assistant had to sit down because she couldn't believe that out of a pile of records that particular one should slip out. I was shocked too. Why that one ??

1. They worked their way into the lining then worked their way back out again

2. Sometimes when you are looking hard for something you think has become hidden you focus of hidey holes and become somewhat "blind" to the plain sight areas

That brought a tear to my eye Granarchist, welcome to your new little Grandchild. ?

DD many miscarriages - multiple failed IVFs - told by expert to stop the IVF - she was given an amulet by an elderly friend of the family - pregnant within 10 days and just delivered of a healthy baby - she wore the amulet throughout her pregnancy and it has been passed on to another in need. Apparently is is given to those in health crises - not just failed conceptions. No explanation but we are all so thankful.

I work in a charity shop that has a 'naughty' spirit.
We had another 'incident' yesterday.
Someone had donated a very large odd/spooky looking doll.
It is so large that we stood it on the floor. Just the two of us working. My colleague came through to where I was working and asked me if I had turned the doll to face the wall!!
Nobody else had been in the shop.

I remember a thread similar to this on Mumsnet and this poster from near Newcastle, who I had seen on many threads, very down to earth person, said that for as far back as she can remenber, if either her or her husband had lost something, it would turn up the next morning on the coffee table.
So much so, she said that if they lose things now, they just go to bed and know it will be there in the morning.
Wish that I had a little helper like that!?

I have no explanation, but my glasses have been missing since last Friday, DH and I have looked everywhere, so if you ladies could all will them to turn up, I would be so grateful? grin

I still puzzle over what happened when I was about to leave my sister-in-laws after a visit. I was gathering up my things and started to look for my glasses - I remembered leaving them on her lounge window sill. But they were not there. Eventually she helped me look for them - the window sill was checked again - and everywhere else that I could have left them. But no luck. Then I glanced at the window sill again and they were there!! How could that be?

Yes, I have many moments like this. Scarily, a while ago I was hunting for some lost keys and had looked again and again in the obvious places. Imitating a friend, I said out loud 'come on gremlin, joker, whatever you are, I need those keys, give them back!'. Shortly afterwards, the keys turned up exactly where I had searched more than once. I too am pragmatic, reasonably scientific, not given to seeing things but find such coincidences weird to say the least.

GrandmainOz Wed 06-Mar-19 07:02:34

Weird things like that are always happening to me. I'm a staunch, science focused realist. Not a spiritual bone in my cynical body I'm afraid, or any belief in the paranormal.
BUT I experience so many odd moments when I really can't see any explanation. There are more things in heaven and earth....or whatever that quote is. Someone will correct me!wink

After my daughter left home and went to London for her first job, I was sorting out her room. There was a pile of empty cardboard trays on a shelf, which I took downstairs to the rubbish. As I was crossing the landing the trays suddenly 'jumped' out of my hands. It was just as though a fist had come up from below and deliberately knocked them. Gathering up the scattered cardboard, I found a certificate. I phoned my daughter and asked her if she needed it. She said 'yes, she needed it for her job application and had been desperately looking for it'.

Event One:
I could not find my spare keys. They normally live in a drawer but I vaguely remembered putting them in my handbag a while before. It's not a large bag: 2 compartments a zipped pocket on both outsides.
So I searched it - I took everything out, I shook the bag, felt inside and out - nothing.
No one, ever has access to my bag but me.
This week I had spare keys cut.
The next day, when dipping in one of the outside zipped pockets of my bag for my regular keys - there were the spares; keys I hadn't seen for a month. And I dip into that pocket most days, before locking my door!

That pocket only ever holds my regular keys which have a jewelled heart keyring.

The spares are on a pretty big key-ring too, one which includes an old-fashioned policeman's wooden truncheon, mini but over 10cm long, not easy to miss. How on earth did they get there?

Event Two:
My daughter in law was looking for a vital form. She searched the only drawer where forms are kept - so did I, in despair when she was so upset. No form.
We broke for a cup of coffee and she said, 'I'll just have to send for a copy but what a hassle.'

She went back to get writing pad and envelope, gave a cry at the door and called me to come quick. There was the form in the middle of the bed, in full view.

I am, as they say, gobsmacked. What's going on here?
Down-to-earth Yorkshire women like me do not have airy-fairy experiences, but how to explain this.

Hand on heart, this is not a wind up it's actually quite scary.

Has anyone else had similar experiences or am I genuinely going mad (along with my dil)
