I am, even in New Zealand, 'up north' but I was welcoming someone to the discussion, in true Yorkshire style, which featured 'up north' even 'north of nowhere' if you like.

I don't have a TV, never have, so am not up to commenting about it but Bradford had some fine architecture at one time, possibly still has.

As for the Yorkshire accents, I once remember my son calling me to watch something on his TV here in NZ, and laughing so hard.

Anyway, forget all that; I'm posting to discuss a TV prog. this evening; "Michael Portillo's Abandoned Britain: Bradford's New Victoria Cinema."
Very interesting! I'm not sure when it was made; quite recently I should think, but I can check the credits when I re-run the recording. The Poms have probably already seen this: the air was thick with fascinating Yorkie dialect from the interviewees as if they were all related to Messrs Bird, Trueman, Boycott etc Do you still talk like that? Must be hard to get rid of.
It spanned 70 years from 1930 at a time when wealthy Bradford was said to contain the most RRs in the UK. W e must sort out trams next!

We may have a reputation for being blunt in Yorkshire but we are also known for our hospitality - so welcome to the North and have a bit of my Auntie Minnie's seed cake (and a glass of beer if you want, it's on the sideboard) whilst you're here.

They have had Trams in Sheffield for quite awhile , they run pass the railway station .
They go up to Hillsborough, also serve Meadowhall and Rotherham as well.
Run by Stagecoach and you can use bus passes on them , not just locals visitors as well.

I don't know about Sheffield, but my Grandad took me to see the last trams to run in Glasgow. I remember going by the shipyards where there were quite a few large ships being built. A very long time ago :-(

bradfordlass72 I am aware of the real ale scene up North in Gods County.
I go to Harrogate allot twice this year, and do a quick crawl around the cafe bars and micro pub in the town plus the tap on the station.
But Sheffield is more noted as well with its " Valley of the Beers " based to north of the city on the tram route.

Mick; I totally agree, except that "gassy" beers, as Spike implied, are good for cleansing the palette on a stinking very hot day! We get an infinite number of "Midsomer" repeats on TV and I always drool when Barnaby and his off-sider Jones or Scott (can't keep up sometimes!) emerge from a pub clutching a pint of "still" ale; find seats at a trestle table on the lawn and sit basking in the soft English sunshine. A babbling brook in the grounds completes an idyllic picture. Half close your eyes and you can imagine Donald Peers crooning in the shady nook!

I have tried some OZ brews in a Wetherspoons Beer Festival in UK.
I had one the brewer originally came from the UK and moved to OZ.
But his mother in law who lives in the UK, who I know quite well, was a brewer herself before she retired the name should be Brewster as she is is woman.
She like myself drink real ale ,and not fizzy gassy beers .

I've certainly NOT blocked you or anyone else, so that's yet another silly glitch in this PM system. You may have heard that messages sent are being erased.
Likewise with those sent sometimes. The message says "on the users' request" which everyone totally denies.

I can't! It tells me you are unable to receive messages, which also tells me you have me blocked in spite of your invitation. Had this prob. recently: not worth solving. I'll stick with open forum! The beer's name is "North of Nowhere" made in NZ for Aldi, purchased at our local Aldi store, a Pale Ale @ 4.7%.
My favourite tipple? In this heatwave any cold beer; in normal times; Merlot or Shiraz.
Although, as Spike Milligan said; "cold OZ beer is like cryogenic mouthwash!"

You didn't give me the name of the beer Rufus so I'm not sure which of the 7 million types of beer you mean

I've just downed an ice cold Mac's Spring Tide, probably the last ever as my son tells me they don't make it anymore.
I tend to keep to the low-carb stuff for drinking during these hot days.
Fosters used to be my tipple in the old days.

So what's your poison?
