Mary Quant at the V&A

RosieLeah I only said to 13yr old DGD the other day that she was dressed in clothes I would have worn as a teen: short a-line skirt( grey / purple check) & a ribbed slim fitting cream jumper & tights. Difference was footwear..she had brown leather boots as opposesd to white!
Casual sportswear is a fashion trend too as are her jeans with threadbear bits! Different from my teens but am sure my granny thought I looked a mess in my mini skirt or my Levi 501s!

I had a Saturday job in a local boutique, which sold Mary Quant make up.
I spent my day, trying out all the testers, then wiping the make up off at home time, as my father wouldn't allow me to wear make up.

Would love to see this. Oh for the days when I had the legs for mini skirts (and a maxi coat on top).

Totally agree Rosieleah it's just jeans and leggings and no real style anymore! I'm a 70's girl nd worked for van Allan on the Biba makeup counter we all had to look smart even had hairdresser come in twice a week for our hair do's!

Thinking back to those times emphasises even more how young people today seem to be fashionless, if there is such a word. We seemed to care much more about how we looked, than girls today. Scruffy just didn't get a look in, but now it's the norm.

I was always too fat for Mary Quant boutique clothes but I loved her make up - I used to always but her Pale Putty foundation - it fitted my face ! I wonder if they still make it ?

Mary Quant as well. 1967 I had a Quant dark blue dress with a matching jacket! I wish I’d kept it.
My best friend had the yellow PVC ankle boots with the Quant flower carved out on the sole of the heel. They left a flower pattern in the snow.
I shall definitely be going to the exhibition, luckily I’m going to the Dior, week after next.

Thanks for the info. Will try to get along there. Wanted to see the Dior exhibition but it's so popular couldn't get reasonably timed tickets.

Oo I loved all things Mary Quant. I remember going into a hairdresser in the 60s and asking for a Mary Quant style with my thin straggly hair. The hairdresser said 'well I'll try' It wasn't such a bad job, although my fringe kept curling up at the end.

Oh thank goodness for Mary Quant who made hair all about the cut and straight hair acceptable. Not to mention the mini-skirt!!!!

I'm 64 so MQ is 25 years my senior but feel she's more representative of me and my generation than Dignitas magazine, Saga, Tena Lady, and all the other 'old people' labels that they try and inflict on us

Oh I loved my Mary Quant clothes.. which my mum made for me after we studied pictures. She did once get a MQ pattern for a scoop fronted skirt with straps ..she made it in an orange plaid fabric and I wore it with a purple skinny rib roll neck and white lace up boots

Gosh, I didn't realise she was that age. I still picture her with her " hairdo " and outrageous clothes costing a fortune as they did-------back in the day.
