I think that the RF, although privately wealthy, do not flaunt their wealth.
Being ostentatious is not their style.

She's rich. Her friends are rich. This type of event goes with her life style, surely she is entitled to some private life?

A little girl with golden hair! At some American Baby Showers they cut into a cake to reveal a pink or blue sponge inside. I don't think they did that. Meghan will never be a Windsor (too, too dull) so let her be a Celebrity, I say. Wasn't Princess Margaret a lover of the high life?

I think Meghan is making it perfectly clear that the royal advisers can go hang because she's going to do what she wants regardless of how the public might react.

Nothing wrong with having a baby shower - even if Amal Clooney hogs the limelight by making sure everyone knows she paid for it. Donating flowers to charity rather than have them wasted is a lovely idea so why not do it in this country? It would have been a great chance to merge American excess with British restraint.

Self indulgence is a big mistake and hypocrisy an even bigger one.

I too think Baby showers are an awful import I m glad they weren’t around when I had babies and thankfully none of my children had them hopefully the grandkids won’t either

Luckily no-one had to deliver the baby mid flight as happens in disaster movies. Now that would have been a story to tell.

One of Meghan's friends at the baby shower is quoted as saying this about the regifting of the flowers:

'It just speaks to who she is. She's kind, she's very generous. And a really, really sweet person.'

Now I am getting How can this be considered "kind" and "very generous"?

It's like that stupid writing on the bananas that was considered "empowering" for the sex workers who received them.

All a bit over the top and showy for me. I have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, as the press give her a hard time, but this hasn't helped her image. Although we do have Baby Showers over here, they seem to be far bigger in the states. Brits never like this sort of excess, especially in the current climate. Perhaps that is was held over the pond, rather than here.

I think baby showers are lovely. A good girls' get-together of celebration and joy. What's not to like?

I agree that it's good that the flowers were put to another use but this smacks of a poorly-thought-out PR job in the fact that this was photographed in great detail with the recipients (children who had cancer and adult men with learning and behavioural difficulties - all of whom looked bemused - after all, we know that those children will have said "No, I don't want any toys, I'd much rather have flowers" [I am joking, by the way ).

Why create all that publicity around the giving away of some flowers? We have all done this with flowers from our own celebrations or from funerals. It's no big deal.

And how hypocritical when one is supposed to be "saving the planet" to fly by private plane for a short stay. I am disappointed that Harry flew in a private plane to get home for Valentine's Day recently too. Kate and William have been photographed in the past on Easyjet.

She can't just change from being the person she was, and is, to someone the British public feel is fitting to her present position, and why should she? She's got wealthy friends. Good for her.

I think out present queen is hard working and has some grip of what's what for non royals. I'm not too sure about some of the others.
I think M and her baby shower is in bad taste.

I think it's a terrible extravagance but no worse than the profligate spending and heedless use of resources that the royal family engages in.

In my opinion, the monarchy is an outdated institution which enshrines the sort of values a forward-thinking country should be leaving behind - but why is everything this woman does picked to pieces? Because she is American? Because she is mixed race? Because she is not from an aristocratic background? What is it that so annoys some people?

I think its so sad to be so wasteful.

I think the whole idea of baby showers is ridiculous.As someone who lost babies quite far on in pregnancy I can think of nothing worse than still having tons of stuff to come home to after a loss.Much more sensible to wait until it arrives and give gifts then

Day6 I imagine that the Clooney's were still friends of Meghan's when she was in Suits. Actors/actresses seem to befriend their own types. I doubt that they've " suddenly " become friends.
