Galen that must be so upsetting. After 40 years one would expect a friend to be more understanding of the turmoils you and Lucy faced, separately and together. From what I've read in the kitchen you were so supportive of her choices in life and have nothing to recriminate yourself about. It seems to me that regardless of your own feelings you were there for your child throughout and mourn the demise of your offspring as any of us would. Please use my shoulder as a crutch when you need to lean for support x

I’m upset. Anne next door came in this evening and then lectured me about the fact I hadn’t visited my deceased child as she would have done, because blood was thicker than water and might have stopped Lucy from dying.
I got very upset and yelled at her to stop trying to make me feel guilty.
I couldn’t physically have visited her and she refused any visits or help.
I feel I don’t want to see Anne again although we’ve been friends for over 40 years

swanny for most of us family is the thing we care about most. Great fortune can come your way but if anyone in the family has a problem it counts for nothing. I hope things work their way through in a positive way for you.

panache I do hope you can move to some sheltered housing soon. I’m sure it would be the best thing for you both. Fingers crossed the buyer comes through. As maw said, perhaps rent somewhere until the right place comes through.

Spring may have sprung charley but after so many years of practice I have no need of more . If Mr C gets under my feet I may put him in a train with an address label round his neck. As long as he returns in time for the planned decorating (when I could well go missing) all will be well. .

Charleygirl At the moment I would happily share our run of viewers with the person whom is having trouble selling!!
However it has only been in the few months since mid June,when our whole county has had an influx of would be purchasers, mainly from London and the surrounding Counties............that there has been such an influx of viewers...........and our road frequently upsets them still!!!
Our last would be buyers were from Jersey.
The interested party now hail from outside Toronto.......................choosing this County to retire to after having lived almost around the world........a good choice for comparitive peace,safety,idylic views and fresh air.............BUT............
they are not yet aware of our very poor SS and so on!

Indeed Eilyann the first time we approached Wiltshire Foods sometime last year we were saddened hearing they did not deliver here,however when we were let down by the Company here,an d we again approached them only to find they now have a Depot in our next County and I can vouch for their deliveries............and good quality.........on a friday.

Well, for want of a better word to describe this afternoon's pack the box exercise...I'm frazzled. Originally, it was to be a wee gift for the very youngest members of the family. That thought morphed into something way beyond a small hold-all. I am chuffed with my choices. All wrapped with great care. The box is so heavy I shall need to assist MacSporran with heaving it to and from the car. The postage will be eye-wateringly inflated. I looked all soft and simperingly towards MacS as he attempted to lift it. Bless him, he actually smiled and shook his head knowingly.

I am so looking forward to a and a relaxing read of the Sunday paper. Has anything exciting happened? I won't bet on it.

I won't get started on parking at hospitals. It's a buggeration beyond belief. There should be a rule that prevents able-bodied visitors from parking in the disabled bays. Oh, don't tell me that there is. Who would have guessed it.

Panache At the risk of teaching my grandmother etc have you looked at Wiltshire Farm Foods? They deliver ready made frozen foods which you just heat up. I haven't tried them but my neighbour - 87 and frail - swears by them. If she feels up to it she makes her own but otherwise she knows there's something in the freezer

Panache you must have a fabulous estate agent who has managed to supply you with a lot of people interested in the house. I think you should share the name with others because I know of one person on GB who is having a major problem selling and maybe moving to another estate agent in her case would work miracles. Most estate agents are not one man bands.

Have you looked online for sheltered accommodation? Maybe even swallow your pride and return to the place you visited before? You must not allow this couple to slip through your fingers because you could not find accommodation elsewhere.

You should know by now you need a bottomless purse and be very fit to visit a hospital!

I have had a grass cutter for many years and now he emails me and then we decide on a day each fortnight for him turning up. I also have a cleaner who is worth her weight in gold because she does things for me I cannot do such as change lightbulbs and is also a computer and wifi whiz. She got my Alexa up and running.

I am aware you are busy in your neck of the woods and now that the sunshine and better weather has arrived, you have been thinking about spring cleaning. Why not practise here next week? All food and bedding supplied. If you think DH could be of any use please bring him too, otherwise he can sunbathe quietly at home. He could look at brochures for a holiday later and recharge his batteries in peace. Merely a suggestion- also there are no children in my house having tantrums!

Whilst the reason I mentioned our viewers taking all that time on their second viewing is just because, usually in the past, an offer is made before all these extras, and we have then afforded would be purchasers all the freedom of our home and time, without a second thought.
Whilst yes, we always make out a list of all those people we have in the chain of maintenance for our home and appliances, plus on the sale itself, we add a card and a bottle of wine.............as others have done for us!!!!.......and we found it very uplifting amongst the turmoil!!!

I have approached a company whom the SS advised locally......they deliver hot meals daily,they do light household chores,laundry,short shopping trips,they do man about the home and garden chores............all just the type of help we needed...... and the meals in fact we were desperately needing in those early days when my man returned from Hospital.
All my Phone calls were never answered and neither were my E mails.
Much later I was told they are very much in business, but so over loaded, they cannot cope with new orders.
Surely though they could have replied themselves to my call?

A neighbour has offered to mow the bulk of our grass using our own Ride on......meanwhile at our Doctor`s advise to my man “Do not become a Couch potato”.......he has tried some mere pottering with a mower but believe me, I have my beady eye on him!!However, to be honest the fresh air and little excercise has helped his waning appetite.

I am sure having your garden attended too has been such a boon to your morale over the years.......nothing nicer than a neat lawn and the smell of fresh grass.

It sounds quite an ordeal that your Si L is facing with a Macular hole,she has my fullest sympathy.........and you my praise for offering to help her out.

Thank you for caring about us Kitty and actually although I get some benefits (hard fought for may I add)my husband has been offered nothing,in fact the question was not even raised.
I know many of you find it very strange that we cannot get the help we need, but very sadly in this county we have no Age Uk....which was our first port of call.
The SS was second and they let us down badly.
There is a company whom tries to do work similar to AgeUk........but they just do not have the strength or knowledge.We have tried so many areas asking for help since Christmas believe me, and in fact another lady is due to call this Thursday.
These folk come initially,take copious notes,are totally aware of our difficulties, all stating we are in a remote area..............yet actual help,even when paying for it, is very hard to assess initially.

Regarding taking your man for his constitutional,it is amazing how little they can manage at first, but he will get there I am sure.Those first few steps are hopefully the first to a full recovery.

We are also finding parking a huge problem at our local Hospital Dragonfly............yet the other 3 Hospitals we visit as and when, are actual nightmares.......so I suppose we must be thankful for small blessings!!
Hospitals are so utterly draining and yet,where on earth would we be without their care and expertise?

Panache sorry to hear you are still struggling. I go to the hospital about once a month and that is trying, every other day must be horrendous. We have a struggle to park at one of the hospitals I go to so you are there an hour before hand for a ten minute appointment.
I hope you get some solution to your selling and buying houses. It is the most stressful time for even the fit and able, however, the weather is improving which does raise the spirits slightly.

Kitty your DH must be pretty fit to do a regular 2 mile walk, mine is struggling to go a hundred yards at the moment. I am hoping the osteopath can sort him out.

Luckygirl you are right about having a gardener and cleaner. It really takes the pressure off and at the moment it is a pleasure to go in my garden as it is so neat and tidy.
