to continue where we left off......

She is not a child soldier. She never fought or belonged to a military force or, to my knowledge underwent any military training.

She was groomed into an extremist religious movement and within that movement's perverted belief her place was as a wife to one of the soldiers, which, uncomfortable as I am to admit it, must have appeared very 'romantic' to a girl of that age.

Look how many other girls of that age have been seduced into inappropriate liaisons, teacher - pupil, the number of girls this age groomed online and running away from home to liaisons with sexual predators, remember the under age groupies that surrounded boy bands in the 1960s. At 15 girls, in particular find the seducing quality of 'romance', very attractive.

She is certainly NOT a prostitute. She is a young girl who, embraced an extreme version of the religion she was brought up in. She went to a country/territory that did not have the age consent rules we have and, within her religion, married someone chosen for her.

My trust in the process of law in this country remains at an acceptable level, it isn’t low. Our judges are chosen on merit, there are serious efforts going into increasing the number of bem and women, as well as people who didn’t go through the private school system.
I don’t dismiss concerns about this young woman but I can’t share the simplistic, angry response of someisters.
Of course her baby should be brought up within his family. The law says unless he’d be at risk of significant harm, that’s what should happen. Adoption is a last resort, I’m not criticising adoption, it’s a life safer for many children.

Urmstongran Fri 22-Feb-19 22:52:02

I think in theory a lot of us would like to agree with you Gonegirl
It’s just that trust in our judiciary is low.
We all know that the CPS will be unable to find enough evidence to prosecute. So SB won’t be charged with anything.
And the taxpayers will have to fund her a lifestyle for the next god knows how many years.
It sticks in the craw, of most people, knowing this.

How many more Brits who went to join Isil now say they want to come home . I have just seen the one they call “Jihadi Jack” say he wants to come “home” for a fair trial in this country. “I miss my mum” he says,(“and pasties and Dr Who” apparently) and I can’t help thinking he should have thought of that first . This is no trivial matter to be dismissed lightly.

Gonegirl Fri 22-Feb-19 22:15:17

I meant dispassionately (in previous post) It's late. I'm tired.

Mycatisahacker Fri 22-Feb-19 21:47:29

Child soldier? Absolute nonsense. She was born and raised in a safe peaceful country and choose to join a cult whose main aim is to bring hatred death and destruction to her own country.

I think the Kurdish people showed remarkably restraint for allowing the capturing of these isis monsters and not killing them. And I agree why should they be left with her.

PECS Fri 22-Feb-19 21:40:29

Many, many people are appalled and distressed by the violence and abuse of minority groups e.g. Yazidi . Dreadful when one group has the political ideology that promotes the brutalisation & destruction of another cultural group. It should be opposed and challenged wherever it occurs.

I am confused at the odd way some minds work..Rotherham?

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Feb-19 21:33:24

It is far too much of a burden for the Kurds, they have managed on their own without a lot of help so far. They deserve their own homeland and to be able to live in peace.

Gonegirl Fri 22-Feb-19 21:29:55

Yes Jalima I believe the Kurds run that camp, and they don't want to carry on doing so. So something's got to happen.

Gonegirl Fri 22-Feb-19 21:28:05

I think there's too much emotion knocking about on this thread. We have so much cause in this country to hate IS. That's why it needs to go through a court of law where it will be viewed discompassionately, ie relating to this woman only without any other events colouring it. For that she needs to come back.

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Feb-19 21:13:30

I was linking the Yazidis with the Kurds although they are not the same group as those in Syria as far as I know.

She is in the custody (at the moment) of the Kurds I believe.

Lily65 Fri 22-Feb-19 21:10:51

What is the connection with the abuse in Rotherham?

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Feb-19 21:10:32

She was complicit in this by joining ISIS.

That is not digression.

Gonegirl Fri 22-Feb-19 21:07:22

Well, I just hope this goes through the British courts, where it can be judged properly.

She can't be just written off by a politician putting his name to a piece of paper.

trisher Fri 22-Feb-19 21:04:13

That's the problem with GN discussions Gonegirl posters seem unable to discuss one thing without digressing.
One case of abuse does not and should not diminish another.

Gonegirl Fri 22-Feb-19 21:01:25

We are talking about this one young woman. Or at least I thought we were.

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Feb-19 21:00:08

What about the Yazidi girls who were raped by ISIS as the women held them down?

Sorry, but some of them were only little girls.

What about the Yazidi women and girls who were burned to death in cages after they refused to have sex with ISIS fighters?

Human Rights Watch has said that the treatment of the Yazidis by ISIS amounts to genocide.

Do not forget them.
She was complicit in this by joining ISIS.

She may come back here as she is a UK citizen but she must face justice.

EllanVannin Fri 22-Feb-19 20:53:57

While you're on the subject of abuse trisher, spare a thought for all those poor girls who, in this country WERE forced into prostitution in the Rotherham sexual exploitation scandal-----------How did you view that trisher ?

EllanVannin Fri 22-Feb-19 20:46:06

We're a civilised country where we don't employ child soldiers. What other countries do is up to them and in this particular case she KNEW what she was going into as it was HER choice, nobody held a gun to her head to join ISIS. !

trisher Fri 22-Feb-19 20:37:09

I suggest some of you look at child soldiers and what is considered a child soldier. She qualifies as such in many ways. Mycatisahacker she was 15 when she left the UK and not much older when she married. Children cannot be prostitutes. They are abused.

Mycatisahacker Fri 22-Feb-19 20:18:11

Gonegirl

Yes she did play her part by joining the group, prostituting herself to a terrorist and providing succour, support, concert to terrorists. She may have witnessed beheadings and killings so utterly complicit.

Lazygirl

That’s exactly what I said she should be put on trial.

I do wish people weren’t so quick to deny this woman agency to her actions. It’s so patronising

Niobe Fri 22-Feb-19 20:07:50

I don't know if it's true or not but I have read that there is a video on YouTube of SB's father waving an Isis flag and burning a Union Jack at a pro-Isis rally. Hardly a fit person to have care of a vulnerable baby boy. If she is allowed back I hope her baby is removed and adopted by someone other than her family. Perhaps the Dutch grandparents if they are willing. Poor wee mite.

EllanVannin Fri 22-Feb-19 19:58:50

They won't show remorse in case it's seen as " letting the side down " so what does that tell you ? That de-radicalisation will work ? Of course it won't ! They'd be shot by their own if they were seen weeping and wailing.
They're a liability to this country as well as to those who they chose to join as either way they're sitting ducks.

Lazigirl Fri 22-Feb-19 19:48:13

Mycats.... Aged I may be but I don't generally find it difficult to grasp things. Thankfully we in the UK have an independant judiciary which can decide cases and make rulings according to the rule of law even if the decisions are politically unpopular.

petra Fri 22-Feb-19 19:35:39

Mycat
I go further than you. Anyone who wants to kill or maim me and mine don't deserve to live.
