Having a shower

Maggiemaybe I don’t bend over and use a towel to dry my feet specifically, just step out onto my thick bathmat dry down to my ankles and sometimes wipe across the top of my feet, have never dried in between my toes and have never suffered any issues as a result of this neglect. ?

Oh I find a bath uncomfortable.. I am not tall so find it hard to relax back and be enveloped by water ..more like submerged{hmm].
I do bath briefly after a long walk to try to relax muscles etc but a warm daily shower then wrapped in lovely bath sheets to relax on a bed is a better option for me!

For anyone who has trouble washing feet in shower, Cosyfeet do a sponge on a long handle just for this purpose. Its about £10. I use one and its a big help.

We had a huge shower cubicle which was nice, but for various reasons it had to be replaced. We chose a bath with shower over, as I then had options; luckily I can get in and out of the bath easily, and when showering (which I do every morning - the bath is used about once a week for a relaxing soak) I put the plug in and my feet get a soak and then a swish over with a scrunchie. If I live long enough to get really creaky no doubt it will be back to the cubicle!

I hate showers. I never feel properly clean. We live in a new build and the showers were fitted with water restrictors to save on water. My husband is an engineer and very practical and he’s never been able to sort out a decent flow from them. Guests complain about the miserable trickle when they use them. I think he would need to take the walls down to find where the restrictors are. Thank goodness for my bath!

I hate showers too, and take a bath every other day, evening actually. Wash my hair with the hand shower and rinse off with it after pulling the plug. Other days it's a strip wash.
I do shower in the summer as I don't get shivery like I do in the winter.
I have also found its getting more difficult getting out of the bath lately and am trying to hold back time by practising getting up off the floor.

We have a folding shower sear attached the the wall. Brilliant for using when washing your feet. An absolute life-saver when I broke my right arm in two place and completely smashed my elbow. I am right handed. Throughout the whole of the recovery time I was able to shower everyday without help ( I could not cope with the idea of anyone helping me). Front fastening bras were the other thing that gave me independence.

I have a disability shower and chair in shower but still hate it. Fear of falling over. I have a good wash at sink every day.

I used to love a soak in the bath but haven't had a bath for many years so it's the shower for me. No problem with showering at home but so many hotels have showers over the bath and despite being tall I cant get my leggs over into the bath easily and find it even worse getting out. If we stay ar Premier Inn when visiting England I now ask for a disabled room so there is a wet room instead of a bath with shower over. But why oh why do they put rooms for the disabled at the far end of the corridor from the entrance?Suffering with hip and back problems it was agony walking all that way when we visited last November.

I really hate showers too. As yet I have no problem at all getting in and out of the bath, but dreading it when I do. I always try to book a hotel room with a bath.

Hurrah, Luckygirl, all the things you say. I don’t understand why friends think I am a little ‘odd’ for not liking showers. When I say ‘I bath everyday’ I get ‘what a waste of water’, ‘how do you find the time?’, etc.

In spite of two hip replacements which in anticipation I believed would again allow me the luxury of being able to get into, without pain, an 'end of the day' warm bath here I am once again back in the shower. The only advantage is a reduction in my heating and water bills.

You could actually have problems if you don't dry in between your toes. Dizzyblonde has been lucky.

I hate anything to do with having a shower or bath.. I wash my hair in the laundry tub.. the last time I had a bath was quite a few years ago I had the water very hot and just loved lying in that hot water but then I found it very hard to lift my body up and out as my muscles were so relaxed that I found I could not lift myself out of the bath, eventually after letting the water cool down quite a lot I managed to lift my dead weight body out..

I struggle to get in and out of a bath so my large shower cubicle is a blessing. I struggle with showers in baths when away from home. The last time I had a bath I was on holiday with DD in a hotel with only a hand held shower attachment and no shower curtain or screen. Good thing I didn't lock the bathroom door as I needed her to help me when I couldn't get out!

All those who wash in a bath... sitting in dirty, soapy water? Eeeuuww! Much cleaner to shower!

Yes I agree about sitting in dirty, soapy water, going cold and no doubt with dead skin floating on the top .

I remember going to a "rich" friend's house, in my late teens and lo and behold she had a shower, this was in an era of bathrooms with only baths. I have to admit I greatly aspired to having one, even more so than a "BOAC" bag which up to that time had been the item I most coveted.

My first husband came from a hot climate overseas where he told me it was not uncommon to shower twice a day and thought the English were quite dirty, ooooh there's a sweeping statement if ever there was one apropos of some English male friends who he house shared with. However, that was further confirmed to us when we went to Australia and became familiar with the "as clean as a Pommie's bath towel" comment that they were prone to utter

I prefer a bath to a shower anyday... if only cos of my arthritis as it sometimes helps ease the pain for a while. But six months ago I had to have the bath replaced with a large shower as my husband couldnt get himself into the bath anymore...... so I’m stuck with shower ....he loves it... endless to say I dont. I long for a bath again.

annsixty thank you! You have solved a 60+year-old question for me! My granny used to talk about washing 'possible' but I've never been able to find out where it came from!

I have recently acquired a wonderful loofah brush from TK Maax I don't know how I lived this long without it. Backs do get neglected in the shower I suppose.

I agree PECS. It is many many years since I had a bath. Had the bathroom converted into wet room twenty five years ago.
I am 95 and havepainful osteoarthritis in both hips and knees.
Don’t feel right if I don’t have a daily shower. Have handles to hang on to and a shower chair. Dry my feet on the thick bath mat. Wash hair under the shower once a week.

Surely if you all shower or bathe or strip wash every day ....as no doubt we all do....actually washing/scrubbing feet is unnecessary . How filthy can they be.... I’m assuming none of you are navvies or coal miners.

Love the bath hate showers will bathe till I can't get leg over !!! The bath I mean!???
