I’ve been lucky, done most of the things I wanted to do. Some didn’t live up to the expectation, some exceeded it. The Via Rail across Canada was one of the latter, GreenGran78, so I’d highly recommend it.
My bucket’s pretty full, I’m very content. No doubt I could and will squeeze a few more things in, but the ones I really want to do are entirely down to me making the effort - writing that book, learning to play that pretty violin I bought on a whim (strong drink was involved).
I did fancy the wing-walking, but with the best will in the world I’ll never see 9 stone again.

What's on your Bucket List?
(104 Posts)In case you don't know (never assume
) this is a list of things you'd like to do in your lifetime.
Most things appearing on standard lists, I've done but today I saw a man dangling from a helicopter, checking power lines and thought what fun it would be to do that.
Not check power lines but dangle from a helicopter by harness or in a chair.
Discounting age, infirmity and cost - what would be on your Bucket List?
These are not bucket lists, they are lifestyle choices!!
After a serious health scare 2 years ago for DH we have tried to visit places and do things we had never got around to and very nice they were too.
It certainly concentrates the mind when you're faced with a diagnosis.
We will splash out on meals and entertainment so much more than when you don't have that sense of urgency.
We get pleasure from planning things and from living vicariously. We are very happy to hear about where our family have been. This week our DC and DGC are visiting eachother at half term.
We have a 2nd honeymoon planned for our wedding anniversary!
But writing our wills, memoirs or a book hasn't happened yet.
I am lucky to have done quite a lot of things and most I have found to have been better in the dream than the reality. Today my greatest wish is to stay sober one day at a time.
mawbroon?
Haven't got a bucket list. Never been ambitious so I know I wouldn't do half the things on it.
S1955, may I ask which country you currently live in?
Never really got the urge to travel until we retired, now, with their encouragement, have been ski-ing (not the mountain type, Spending the Kid's Inheritance!) Started off with a round the world trip - Las Vegas, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, coming back via Hong Kong and Singapore. It truly was the trip of a lifetime, will remember it always, and gives us so much more to talk about when meeting new people.
We could never afford another one of those, but in the past nine years we have visited Russia, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, East Coast of Canada and also the Rockies trail Banff to Vancouver, Oregon, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, New York, coming back on the QEII. We have done the Orient Express to Venice, cruising back home via port in the Mediterranean, would just add a caveat that the old suspension made me rather queasy!
I took a trip on my own to Kenya to meet the child I have been sponsoring, seeing the children in the Nairobi slums and the Masai huts in the Mara was something I could never have imagined, made me so angry at the extreme poverty, but also inspired at their happiness with what life has given them.
I truly believe you have to make the most of the short window between retiring and the onset of ill health. I never cease to be thankful that we have been given the opportunity to do this, we have one last trip to Kenya and Zanzibar coming up. I am not sure what else we will achieve, as DH is beginning to lost confidence in long trips, and also the funds are now getting low, but we are completely different people now to how we were 9 years ago.
Our grandchildren are our real focus, and when we have been away, have been able to talk to some of them on Skype and show them where we are. They enjoy us showing them a few photos and telling them what we have seen, which broadens their view of the world too!
Carpe Diem!.....
Been to NZ and loved it. Some travel in USA, far amount in Europe. Would love the rail journey across Canada, the rail journey through the Rockies and to drive down the west coast of the USA.
We could do those, except that DH now has very little sight and those are all about jaw-dropping views.
I am like Maw. I have done many wonderful things in my life and visited lots of places but now I find the simple things are the best - seeing my grandchildren smile and spending time with my DS and DD.
I want to go to Nepal and Florence. I would like to have one of my short stories made into a film. But most of all I would like my relationship with a sibling to be restored
To find love, and settle down. Maybe even get married.
I'm trying dating apps, but I'm attracting weirdos and married men or men half my age....
On my bucket list, is visiting a tropical rainforest, to see all the amazing plants and animals which live there. Sadly, I fear there will be little rainforest left, for future generations.
I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights, and also to sleep under a sky with no light pollution, where all the stars can be seen ; maybe even in a tent in the desert.
A round cruise trip to Australia and New Zealand with a stop over to see Uluru and also the great Barrier reef.
I'd like to visit Scotland and eat a Baked Alaska (not necessarily at the same time!)
One of them is Maachu Picchu and we go in May! Only booked flights, so a bit out of our comfort zone but think that’s a good thing. Going to tour round on a magic hop on hop off bus just like our kids on their year out!! Would love to see the Northern Lights too.
I had only two things 1) Eat a blue jelly and 2) stroke an adult male cheetah. The blue jelly wish I'd had since a young child, and I finally a couple of years ago or so found a Jelly Belly pot jelly that was blue, so I have ticked that off. The cheetah is probably never going to happen.
I am hoping to go to Israel later this year, Or maybe Peru as I love South America, being half Brazilian. I will be 78 tomorrow and although I have bad knees and asthma I climbed a volcano in the Galapagos Islands a couple of years ago when I had more money.
Also hope to get my book published.
If health allows do follow your heart!
My bucket is already so full that I feel very very lucky and blessed. Anything I can squeeze in now will be somewhat whimsical but nonethelesss enjoyable. Life is good.
Summer is coming. Buy that camper van and do it.
I'd like to see the Northern Lights, which would be quite easily done (if they appeared whilst I was there).
However, I don't want to do that trip with my DH, but with my very long term male friend.
We've been close friends for over forty years, and have both always wanted to do this.
And therein lies the problem, neither my DH nor friend's DW would understand why we wanted to do this without them.
There's absolutely nothing between us but close friendship, so they'd have no need to worry, but I don't think we're ever going to make the trip, as just us two.
We could, of course, take our other halves along, but we promised ourselves years ago that if we ever went, it would be us, no partners, familes etc. Of course that was before either of us were attached, but even so......
I like the idea of a F* it list Maw
You should start a new thread
On my bucket list was buying a sports car which we did when we both retired. Last year driving along our beautiful Northumberland coast line with the roof down playing Tears for Fears was absulute magic. That memory will stay with me for ever. Simple but amazing.
I would love to do another river cruise and go to the opera in Vienna . We did for our 40th wedding anniversary but I had the thought of an operation for breast cancer hanging over me at the time with no idea of the outcome . Next best thing to being there is going to the cinema to see a live broadcast. We saw Placido Domingo in La Traviata recently I felt so honoured to see him almost in the flesh. Have never seen him live and am unlikely now to do so as he is even older than I am , he is 78 .
Strange I know...I want to find a quiet beach and lay in a gentle sun naked....hahahaha. Oh and climb Glastonbury Tor....
I dont have a bucket list as such just try to find something special to do in places we visit, I’ve run up the ‘Rocky’ steps in Philadelphia while DH videos and hummed the tune ?, had buffalo wings in buffalo, been white water rafting, paintballing (very painful but fun) want to do the zip wire next lots of other daft things life is about fun at our age
