Nobody is apolitical but some people manage to behave honourably & professionally. Maybe there is an academic who would fit the bill. Jim Al Khalili has interviewed some highly able people on Life Scientific on R4 .. the person who made sure the cost of some important cancer drug formulae were made accessible by keeping cost down sounded a decent human being. Mind you Jim's quite a decent chap too!

As soon as I saw this thread one name sprang instantly to mind. I read through all 8 pages to see if anyone else had the same thought. Bluebelle, we are of a mind. Caroline Lucas is the most intelligent, thoughtful, articulate person I have seen in years. And if we can’t have her for president, then ok, I’ll vote for Huw Edwards for no reason other than I love him.

I don't think Caroline Lucas could keep quiet - we just need a President who will perform the duties of Head of State, Head of the Commonwealth etc etc and not express an opinion.

Rather like the Queen in fact. But she is only about 5' 2" and I'm sure she doesn't take size 10 shoes.
