Have you ever used one, or would you be too frightened to?

Do you think its a lot of old claptrap, or should we not mess with things we don't understand?
Are they a gateway to 'the other side', or a way of possibly unleashing something that should be left well alone?

I think this is dangerous in the wrong hands. At a party when I was a teenager it was suggested that we play about with something like this. Apparently my face went white and I looked really scared - thankfully a kind friend persuaded them to change their minds.
If you want to make contact with the departed there are good mediums who can do this properly.

These boards were bought out in Victorian times as a harmless board game. They have just gained a reputation with age.

Used - at school. Use but take with a pinch of salt

Hildagard Mon 11-Feb-19 13:21:02

RosieLeah you obviously believe in spirits. I see faces when I am relaxed and close my eyes, very clear faces of strangers, sometimes they are talking but I can only see their lips moving? Spirits? This post makes me sound odd.... sorry but I have mead curious about this for sometime and haven’t had the courage to ask anyone

I used one at a sleepover as a teenager.

Of course, being a prankster, I was using a metal planchette and a magnet held in my hand under the table.

When my terrorised schoolfriends realised what I had done, I got a sound beating from them all.

No f'ing way would I be messing with a real one. No thanks.

I read posts on GN and wonder why some people feel the need to say such horrible things to each other.......

lizzypopbottle Mon 11-Feb-19 12:56:39

Elegran just read your post on page 2. We are of one mind! ?

Try this: Amaze your friends and family! Suspend a ring, large paper clip, or anything of a similar weight, on a length of thread. Hold it between finger and thumb, dangling down over a surface. Tell yourself it will move in a circle, clockwise, without you moving your hand. Keep your hand still but bend your will to the task. It will begin to circle and, if you concentrate, the circle will get wider. Tell it, mentally, to stop, or change direction and it will slowly comply without you moving. You can cause it to make pendulum movements side to side or forwards and back.

I was shown this on a work-based personal development course. It was meant to convince us we were capable of anything! Once we were successful, the mechanism (below) was explained. Like anything else, the more you practise, the better you get!

This is not spirit possession or anything like that. It's sub-concious micro movements of your own muscles that you are making happen, initially without being aware of it. That's one way that the ouija board may be directed i.e. by one or more living, breathing people around the board. Couple that with the desire for something, anything to be spelled out, and the desire to connect with it and you have your 'spirit' messages. The human mind is a powerful thing.

I used to go to a clairvoyant and she was so accurate. One time she said I was getting a pay rise but it wasn't like a normal pay rise. With the extra money we were going to have a new kitchen. She could have not possibly known that I worked for a bank and had just become eligible for mortgage subsidy. This meant the mortgage had to be moved to the bank and we were able to have extra money to have a new kitchen.

Daughter was newly engaged when we visited another time and she took off her ring to not give her clues. Her hand did not have a ring mark but she knew instantly and told her off for taking it off. One thing she told daughter was that her fiance had a problem with his left knee. She didn't know until she got home that he had injured it doing karate some years previously and had to give up the sport.

A friend went to see her when her husband had just walked out saying he didn't want to be married but stating there was nobody else. The clairvoyant described the other woman to her (without being told about him walking out), so vividly that she recognised her as someone he worked with and she had seen her at the Christmas dance. My friend had no suspicians as they did not associate with each other at the dance.

There were many more things and I truly believed she had a gift. Others I have been to have been the generalists - one said I would have a bad back, yes but so do most of the population and I would move to a cottage with roses round the door (not happened and not likely). Another friend, who I didn't know at the time, had been to the same person and had virtually the same reading.

I believe in the spirit world. Not in the spooky, ghost type way, just that your spirit lives on in this world after you have left it. The spirit takes the form of every word you have spoken and every deed committed. That is why it is important to live a good life as much as you can. Every harsh word or action lives on in someone’s mind, tormenting them for ever. Every kind word and deed continues to offer comfort to those still in the living world. Quite often to future generations too.

I think it is very wrong to make any attempt to contact the deceased. They have earned their right to spend eternity in peace. Knowing that people are sad at their passing is natural, someone trying to bring them back from the spiritual world is not.

I have said that I don't know the explanation for all unwitnessed breakages, Anniebach I only know that there are many different reasons, and supernatural influences are one reason that should be well down the list to be considered.

Anniebach Mon 11-Feb-19 12:17:08

Elegran your moving rug doesn’t explain a tablecloth with breakfast dishes laid being pulled from the table, not by a sleep walker, only two people in the house in the same bed woken by the crashing noises , no pets in the house

Anniebach Mon 11-Feb-19 12:12:22

So you do know all Gabriella even about muck carts , I am in awe

Elegran Mon 11-Feb-19 12:09:47

amethyst67 Was his given name Fireside?

Tamayra Mon 11-Feb-19 12:04:53

I have clairvoyance & use my gift for over 50 yrs to help many many people
It’s an ancient art & when used with respect & love is very useful & very accurate
As for the boards I wouldn’t use them They can, in unskilled hands, invite in low spirits who love to play games Some of which can be very dangerous

amethyst67 Mon 11-Feb-19 12:00:59

"I have a large rug in a room which isn't used much. I can go in there after a week or two to find the rug a couple of feet away from where it used to be, when no-one has walked on it or even near it. Heat variations and the sun coming in the window cause that."

That's very interesting and I may be able to answer why that happens!
When we were using the Ouija board many years ago we had a 'spirit guide' who said he was Persian.
We spelt out 'what is your name' and the glass spelt 'R U G'.

maryhoffman37 Mon 11-Feb-19 11:44:20

Did it once and had a horrible experience. Would not do it again. It mentioned something the other people there did not know about.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-Feb-19 11:42:52

Have I ever said that I know it all AnnieBach ?
Well...you know what thought did.
Followed a muck cart and thought it was a wedding.

FNH1 Mon 11-Feb-19 11:41:23

Do not do this. You don't want to attract undesirable elements into your life. Believe me i know first-hand

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-Feb-19 11:37:50

One November evening, the week of the 5th, I was at a bonfire party at a friend's house. It got a bit warm inside so I wandered into the garden where she told me I was pregnant.
I laughed out loud and asked why she said that. She said the sign was the marks either side of my nose.
Indoors, I looked in a mirror and I looked no different. I had and have no marks, scars or discolouration on my skin.
Several months later, you guessed it. I was pregnant and a daughter was born in August, a full term baby.
It was odd, because I already had 3 children and she had never made such remarks before despite knowing me for 26 years.
She was not clairvoyant nor given to thinking along those lines, however, she was a deeply religious Catholic lady.

When I was young (63now)I was told I would die at 23 on a Ouija board, scared the life out of me when I turned 23 and the whole year I kept thinking is this it, but here I am at 63 and still going strong ?

Anniebach Mon 11-Feb-19 11:25:59

Gabriella, you wonder why? I thought you knew it all

Witzend Mon 11-Feb-19 11:23:52

And a brother at a boarding school which included some very old buildings, said some of the older boys (not including him) had a Ouija session, again 'for a laugh', where they thought nothing had happened, but very soon afterwards one or two of the younger boys became almost hysterical with fright about 'things' they had seen.

It was a cathedral school, and IIRC they got the bishop to exorcise the place, after which it went quiet again.

Needless to say, the boys were forbidden from doing any such thing again.
