Critical or just plain rude?

We all have our opinions. I think Olivia Coleman is a superb actress, but when I have seen her on chat shows, etc, I find her really irritating (she probably wouldn’t like me either!)

Don’t hold back MissAdveture! GC is a diva and a brat in my opinion and looks like a pantomime dame. There I said it and don’t feel mean as she is horrible about people and seems to think she is the superior being. She must have a nice side but she doesn’t choose to show it.

Don't think I can criticise actors as I can never remember their names!

I think its OK to criticise experts and news readers for speaking badly. It seems to be the thing these days to speak as badly as possible. I love accents but do think that if you set yourself up to speak on radio or TV in a news programme you should enunciate properly. I suppose I'm saying if you are paid to do a job do it properly.

I try very hard not to openly dislike or criticise people who are in the public eye.

We have several friends who are in the public eye and the misleading articles and so called anicdotes which appear in the media are more prevalent than any true accounts.

Not looks with Brenda and me. It’s the over acting, the exaggerated facial contortions bordering on gurning. Or at least, that’s how she used to come over to me. I haven’t tried Vera, just because she’s in it. Apparently it’s very good.

I agree.. I had that prblem when naming our children. We were both teachers so not only our own classmates but all those we had taught too!

Its a bit like choosing baby names.
The minute some names are suggested you think of someone from school and say "Oh no, we can't have that name! They always had a runny nose!"

Not sure.. in films the role can make actors look very different .. but possibly they remind us of a person we don't like... so we associate them with that?

I am the same about Meryl Streep, she makes my toes curl.

I don't watch Vera, but I saw her play a frigid woman in something years ago, and she was fabulous.

Oh, I’m the same with Brenda Blethyn, I just can’t do with her. I thought it was just me!

I've never taken to Angelina Jolie at all.

Maggie Smith is my favourite person and actress.

She looks like she'd be good to give a lovely cuddle to me.
I love her face.

I have a friend who cannot watch Brenda Blethyn .. she finds her acting to contrived. I don't mind her.

I’m with you on this PECS and yes, I does say how shallow some people are and how unkind.

We all have different perceptions of beauty which is why over focus on appearance is shallow. I think too that having a chat with your mum about the beauty or otherwise of a royal is not the same as posting "Princess Aurora is an ugly flat chested pizza face! "

I suppose it depends on a persons perception of harsh?
My mum was really cross that I don't think Kate Middleton is stunning.
She is very average as far as I'm concerned.

Yes I totally agree if it’s something they use to make them more money by supposedly enhancing their so called beauty, its one thing however it’s never acceptable to put emphasise on what people look like through no choice of their own Like her or dislike her the stick Diane Abbot and many other politicians take is unbearable to hear
I think there is a huge negative cloud over the world (and it isn’t just UK) and comedy is probably at its most harsh about appearances unfortunately that then gives some ordinary folk the ability to go one step further

I must clarify. I think its unfair to criticise what someone is born with. All else is fair game.

I see a difference between making personal comments on an actor - say Judi Dench, who doesn't present herself to the world as other than an actor and should be criticised only for her acting and someone like Jordan/Katie Price, whose saleable asset is the way she presents her body. In which case, it is reasonable to comment on the goods on sale and how they are draped. (I make it clear I am talking of her show business career.).

The same thing applies to presenters - the Claudias and Davinias and such whose presentation of themselves is part of their brand.

Vicious, unkind or cruel remarks are always unacceptable.
