Taking baby for a walk

We had this when we moved into the village. The young lady was 12, and she and her younger brother were our babysitters for many years ( when they were old enough)
Thirty odd years later they are still close.

Yes! It happened in 1976 too! My DD1 was wheeled round the block by our neighbours daughters for me..to get DD1 off to sleep! They were 12 & possibly 8. I know the older girl was 12 because she and my DD1 had the same birthday 29/02!

Oh yes my sisters used to take our downstairs neighbours babies to the park. It wouldn’t happen now.

When I was young it was very common for girls to knock on someone’s door and ask to take the baby out in the pram. Not strangers but neighbours. If there was a new baby in the road one or sometimes two quite young girls would be knocking. It was seen as acceptable. With hindsight it seems terribly risky. Does anyone else remember this practice?
