Broadband and TV costs. How to reduce them?

I was a Virgin customer for 23 years (ntl before that), and my last bill was £62, for broadband, landline (free calls for 1hr to any landline), and a Tivo box. I asked if they can offer me a better deal - they offered me £8 a month off!

I changed to Sky this week, and for the landline and broadband, NO tv, I'll be paying £27 monthly for 18 months (by then, I'll go with whichever company is doing the best deal. I intend buying a Freeview box.

I think we ought to try that Alima. The big companies must be making enormous profits with their TV and broadband packages. angry I really would like to walk away!

The sports channel (Sky Sports) is one of OH's luxuries and it does get used, but it is an expensive add-on!

Could you try contacting Virgin to say you are leaving as the price is now too high? Not sure that would work, really should try it myself. Our monthly cost for BT Sport etc is now more than the national debt of a Baltic nation.

OH, bill payer for broadband and TV has just informed me our costs (with Virgin) are going up yet again. It is becoming ridiculous.

We need the internet but according to Martin Lewis it is cheaper to get it with telephone line rental too. So that is paid for as well, although we rarely use the landline these days. It's a handy back-up phone I suppose.

We are finding we tend to record programmes we like or which seem promising and watch those in the evening. We also use the catch-up feature a lot.

OH pays for Sky Sports and he should, in retirement, as he loves his football in winter and cricket in summer (and now!) and I enjoy watching tennis too.

We pay for Netflix monthly so we can enjoy box sets and films and children's entertainment, for the DGC but I suspect that could go as we have noticed the films are either old (and good, and seen before) and the new ones tend to be B rated films or cheap made for TV ones, never recent releases from the cinema.

I just wondered if we could ditch Virgin TV altogether and go for something like a Now TV box or something. It's getting ridiculous. If we lived to be 200 we'd still have recordings to watch I reckon. grin We also have a stack of good films on DVDs.

I like reading so don't need too much TV entertainment.

Any ideas about how to get a cost effective TV and broadband package? This is one of our biggest monthly expenses and it has to be streamlined and cheaper.
