A little achievement today.

Well done everyone for doing all these amazing things. I'm sure if I had a car with extras, a smart phone or Sat Nav I'd have a go at all these . I must admit I prefer my laptop to using the i pad as my swiping fingers don't seem to work like everyone else's. When I take photos on my DS's phone for him he ends up with about 94 of them and I only touch the screen once (very lightly) now! On the other hand I have changed tyres, replaced wipers and once (by fluke) fixed a stuck window on the car. I can also build flat pack furniture .... Will that do?!

You don't need a heated steering wheel in Aus ,if you leave your car in the sun & forget to cover the wheel it is too hot to handle & you can't go anywhere

Tanith well done! I always have to battle with cruise control when we get a new car as they're all slightly different. Don't use it often as, like you, I don't like the feeling of being not in control. Another point is that you can use more fuel if you use cruise a lot as the car accelerates more on inclines to keep to the speed set. I only use it in roadworks where there's speed limit

kittylester what car do you have that has a heated steering wheel?? I'd love one as I find the cold wheel causes my mild Reynaud's to make my fingers go white and numb!!!

In another tiny triumph I changed the ink in my computer printer! What next...

No cruise control on my car, my achievement after DH died was to fill the car up with petrol. At 57 I had ever had to put petrol in a car remember petrol pump attendants

Only thing I have never mastered is checking my tyres, perhaps at 63 I should learn but suspect loss of sensation in finger tips may be a problem.

My sat-nav can be updated using my lap top, no need to sit in the cold.

Mastered M25 when out with DM when she was on holiday with us, 10 years I lived close to M25 & never drove on it (DH used to drive the section around Heathrow to M40)

My friends use cruise control to prevent themselves speeding in towns. I have not mastered it yet. Its on the list for this year.

After having our car for 2yrs I finally managed to work out how to use the Park Assist on our car yesterday. So now if I am unsure about whether or not I can get into a space a little arrow comes on, I put the car in reverse and if the sensors think the space is big enough all I do is press 'ok' and the car reverses into the space. I have to say I do find it kind of scary but it seems to work fine!

N46, I do solo holidays with great success and not always with an organised group. Much depends on whether or not you enjoy your own company I find but, confess, there is an extra layer of pleasure for me when in company. It's swings and roundabouts often. Solo you can do exactly what you want at all times. With company you have to compromise but have the bonus of appreciative sharing and chats. Mmmmmm.....i

Well done you! We've had our new 'all singing and dancing' car since March 2017 and I still haven't learnt even the hands free bluetooth thingy yet. :-)

Well done you. I can manage cruise control but most electronic things defeat me, especially to do with TV, Blu Ray, Sky box, catch up and recording. I am ashamed to say I sometimes have to wait for my son to come home. I can't/don't do blue tooth.

What a lovely surprise to see such lovely posts I’m really happy it’s inspired many of you to tackle things we’ve put off sometimes for years. We may be a bit grey on top but there’s nothing wrong with our brains ?
I think we should have a regular Achievements thread as this ones been so positive.

I can do most essential things on the car, although not cruise control.
My husband died in the middle of last year and I’ve managed to do most things he used to take care of.
However it’s things like holidays I find difficult. I have booked a solo holiday with Saga and I’m sure I’ll be fine but it’s no substitute for planning a holiday with a partner or a friend. Have others booked solo holidays that they’ve enjoyed?
