A little achievement today.

I'm not sure that tanith's car took her anywhere. I think it is just the speed that it controls.

Gosh how brave of you tanith it sounds scary to me.
I don't think I could bring myself to sit back and let a car take me somewhere, much as I'd enjoy that. I take my hat off to you!!

I’m happy some of you are inspired I think we women give up too easily when it comes to cars I know I did.

I'm truly impressed Tanith. I don't have all those clever features on my car but I sometimes struggle to know whether I've got the headlights dipped or full beam. I might have to copy your idea of reading the manual.

Definitely well done Tanith as Alima said achieving all those three things is great. I must stop wimping out ( sorry pedants ) and sort out all the things I don't use on the car.

Heated seats and steering wheel were among the first thing I worked out!! Baffkingly, the heated seats come back on if you restart the car but the steering wheel doesn't.

I don't drive but my moment of triumph was working out how to reread a book on my Kindle! It took quite a few attempts but I did it.

So I now know how to turn the fog lights on, sounds rediculous as I’ve had the car 4 yrs but I don’t remember having to drive in the fog I think OH must of driven in those circumstance.
The satnav does need investigating too, I can do the basics and but I’ve yet to be able to see my destination, yes Auntieflo I have just glance at it very quickly as it can be distracting.

Tanith well done, and you certainly deserve a pat on the back, if not on the head, from family.
We haven’t got cruise control on our elderly lady, just my right foot!
DH uses a sat nav, and I sit and listen to her, when she condescends to work, but I have never used/ programmed her myself. Does anyone else find it a bit distracting, having the screen and the road maps in front of you?

I like cruise control on long journeys as it stops your right foot getting stiff or going into cramp!

Well done tanith. You’ve inspired me to look again at cruise control, I’m the only driver now thanks to DH’s sight loss. My latest discovery is that my phone contacts are actually there on the car screen. Who knew! One day I’ll use them. Or not.

Well done Beechnut I’ve looked half a dozen times for my fog lights I think it’s time for google or my handbook lol.

I had a look for fog lights a while ago tanith. My car achievement this week was the heated steering wheel switch.

Now I just need to find how to switch on the fog lights ???

Thanks everyone I knew you would appreciate how hard these small things seem when there is no one holding your hand anymore although I feel DH was right there willing me to get the hang of it and cheering me on I know he would want me to carry on carrying on. ?

kittylester I thought it was so much more complicated than it was once I’d turned it on set the speed that was all there was to it. I’d assumed I’d have to disengage to change lanes etc but it wasn’t so and if I needed to speed up I could just press resume and it went back to the previous set speed. I cruised for a good 45 mins with it on and it was just very simple don’t know what I was so worried about.

Culag I feel the same as you I’ve struggled with simple things since DH died recently but like you I’m slowly getting there.

Well done, that has inspired me to work out how to use the cruise control on my car too. It’s amazing what we can do when we have to, and I know how hard it is to suddenly have to work out all those little things someone sle has been doing. You have a right to feel proud of yourself.
My mother was widowed at 85. She never drove, leaving that to my dad, and in fact was known to drop off to sleep as soon as she was settled in the passenger seat. After he died she took some refresher driving lessons, bought herself a small, easy to park car, and now drives herself to U3A meetings, church, various committees etc.

I felt mightily pleased with myself when I sorted out the sat-nav. It had delighted in taking me the long and scenic route to every single place I wanted to visit. Being a huge fan of maps I tended to ignore it and do my own thing. (I love my maps. I like to know where I am in relation to other towns, villages, cities etc. It helps when all you have to guide you is a road sign.)

My sat nav now does my bidding as I have altered its settings. (cough) I think I secretly enjoyed it blowing its top and screaming "Recalculate, recalculate!" rather like a Dalek when I ignored it's instructions before.
